Last but certainly not least, the Olympiad official beatmapping contest arrives to osu!catch. Do you fancy yourself as a fruit arranger worthy of becoming the first ever osu!catch Mapping Olympian and ascending to the rank of Elite Mapper? Read inside for all the details and how to enter!
Following in the footsteps of the other game modes, we are excited to announce that osu!catch will be marking its first appearance on the stage of the Mapping Olympiad. Naturally, some fantastic prizes are up for grabs, including the highly coveted Elite Mapper title. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to dive into the editor for some fruity fun; whether veteran or newcomer, could you be the one to rise above the rest?
If you've not followed the previous contests running through the year, the osu! Mapping Olympiad is a successor to the Monthly Beatmapping Contests of the past, featuring a wide array of competitions ranging from traditional beatmap spread contests to more specialized offerings such as speedmapping, thematic challenges and more!
In line with opening round Mapping Olympiad contests for the other game modes, the first offering for osu!catch will follow the more traditional and accessible style of spread beatmapping, so let's introduce you all to your new favourite song!
To kick things off, we have selected a song that should strike a balance between accessibility and variety, accomodating a wide selection of styles and skill levels, courtesy of one of our many fabulous Featured Artists, Thaehan!
Thaehan's Yuujou features a dizzying array of synthesizers layered with both drum and piano tracks, impressively packed into a bite-sized two-minute package. Offering huge variety at all difficulty levels and for mappers of all abilities, there's bound to be something on offer for all of our contestants!
After the entries are judged and the results are finalized, the top three entries will receive the following prizes:
For Olympiad contests, we will be using a point system to award the 'Mapping Olympian' badge. This means that top placing results across multiple contests will grant you the opportunity to be awarded a badge, even if you do not win a particular contest. Every 6 points earned will grant you a badge level, with incrementation on the badge for each level achieved.
The expected baseline for points rewards will be 6, 4, and 2 for the top 3 entries respectively, but the specific rewards will vary per contest based on expected effort and challenge for the participants.
You will have 28 days from the date of this post to submit your entries. A pre-timed .osz can be downloaded here, so you can dive right into mapping without delay!
You can find all the information from this announcement, as well as a submission deadline countdown on the contest page — please take a look if you ever need a refresher! We're very excited to see what all of our mappers are capable of, so please do your best to blow us away for a taste of fruity glory!
Good luck and have fun!
