osu!(lazer) Updates: November 30, 2023

by Walavouchey

Practise your slider artistry in today's osu!(lazer) update!

The greatest revolution to mapping since OliBomby's Mapping Tools might have just hit the game today:

Changes

  • Free-hand slider drawing. That's right, weave slider shapes at extreme speeds. Grotesque abominations or intricate works of art, all at the grasp of your artistic (or shaky) brush strokes.
  • Ability to open editor timestamp URLs. A crucial convenience for modders, albeit only for in-game chat modding at the moment.
  • Unstable rate calculations now account for rate changes. The measure of how "spread out" your hits are in time, previously didn't measure in real time when mods like HT or DT were applied.
  • HP drain rate now matches osu!(stable). Well, almost. The new client version doesn't have Geki and Katu judgements, which would give a bit of extra health at the end of each combo in the osu! game mode.
  • New skin editor button in the main menu. You did know that there is a skin editor, right? If not, it's now more easily accessible and visible by simply going to edit -> skin editor right from the main menu!
  • Various performance optimisations, bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements. Check them all out in the full changelog as always.

The developers are still making good headway into the goal of earning performance points in osu!(lazer) by the end of the year, but if you don't feel like waiting and want to try the new things out, they're all right here.

I can say that I have no clue about any of this, as I joined a few days ago. But it seems like updates are coming in fast

Yeah, they're coming in unbelievably fast

Absolutely! It's great that osu lazer has introduced a new skin editor button in the main menu. This feature makes the skin editor more accessible and visible, allowing for easier navigation to edit and customize skins. I'm having trouble with skinning, so the new skin editor feature could be really beneficial for me. It's a user-friendly way to enhance my osu experience by customizing the game's visuals to my liking!

Is it worth it to start mapping in osu lazer for the first time?

yippee

Stop releasing mechanics that very few will use and better start solving errors PLEASE!!

If you bothered your entitled arse to look at the entirety of this page (or better yet: the osu repo on GitHub) you'd see the work going into fixing bugs and making Lazer a more pleasant experience for more people.

Adryzz ElWarachi05

you know things happen in parallel right?

multiple people (some in and some not in the osu! team) working on multiple things.

I used to be very annoyed about how ppy and the team approached the editor in lazer, but it looks like my concern was stupid because these updates are getting better and better. I still prefer stable but the direction lazer is going is very cool and speciely with changes like the freehand slider drawing, it will be cool. Cant wait for more.

W update

Finally I can draw a dick slider without having to deal with figuring out how slider shapes work even though I don’t map standard
