The gen "distinctions" were basically a combination of gaslighting and very subjective reasoning, abraker changed gens whenever it just felt right, for gen 10 and 11 in fact there were a lot of drama with the generation change because it just made no sense, if you were to actually sit down and see the culture of each gen, you would realize it's basically the same all the way around.

It was changed to have a system that is more clear, easier to understand, that creates less drama, and so far, this thread has achieved it's goal.

I mean, the current "drama" is that i'm not abraker, any change to the system would have created that reaction, however, the actual system hasn't really backfired once yet, no drama about gens changing when they should be, of people not beig added 6 momnths after they meet the requirement, no drama about if someone should be removed from denizen, etc, it's been working as it should be

i apologize for incidentally adding onto the pressure, i dont have a particularly strong opinion either way, but i'd like to understand:

how is it that the "current drama" is necessarily about you not being abraker?

(and does it not seem plausible that there were things abraker did that people happen to prefer? i can't really point to those distinctions myself, so i don't really have an argument to make in posing this follow-up question, but i also think it might be fair to consider this if it's not something that can be explained)
Ymir
I wonder if the lack of drama stems from the fact that denizen has lost all meaning after all your changes; though I do recall that making denizen meaningless (or deleting entirely) was one of your goals.

nah it's not pressure, you haven't been here when I first got president, people wanted me GONE badly

Me not being abraker is not the reason, however it kinda illustrates the point I want to make, if you were to look at the original denizen thread in a more objective way, you would see the system we used to have failed at it, if the point was to preserve OT history, it was too confusing to understand and each gen lacked the context for a new user to come in OT and understand it, the gen changes were mainly defined by OT lore, which you will have noticed it's currently very absent from current OT, so abraker just started changing the gens when it just felt right, which led to many problems, since at that point in time abraker wasn't really active in OT and was pretty out of touch with many things, however, abraker ruling kept being king because well, he was abraker, the person with the most authority in OT.

the system just didn't work, and the people running the thread just started freeballing it, the requirements were not enforced, people who met the 8 month activity requirement and had created many posts and threads didn't get denizen while someone like blushing, who didn't meet the requirements, got it, and instead of just reversing the changes, a vote was held to decide if the very obvious rule breakin should be reversed, no vote for blushing to get in but one for him to get out, the system was biased as fuck.

But well, most people in OT never really challenged the system, for most people the denizen thread existed even from before they joined OT or osu and would probably still exist for the day they quit, everyone just was used to it. + you, as a newfag, even if you saw flaws with the system, you didn't have the authority to criticize it.

Then I come in and actually change the system, changing the thing everyone is used to basing myself on the problems people had learn to ignore, not only that, but I wasn't abraker, if abraker wanted to change something in OT, they could just do it, no question asked, I don't have that level of power. It's natural for people to be really mad at me, however, I truly think that i'm in the right with the changes I have made, so I don't really care

also, the people actually criticizing me are like the same 3 people every time, the wider OT community doesn't really seem to care, is that because denizen has lost all prestige?, maybe, I do personally think some people do care enough to check this thread and don't really see anything wrong with it, people still react at the announcements and shit

Nice, I just wanted to check out OT and found that this drama is still going on lmao.

The latest 'age' has definitely lost meaning for 'me' since the requirement is low for 'my standard' and there are few in the 'age' that never became such a big part in OT to be rewarded with a title and not to mention there is one who still is not accepted as a part of this community.

Though, plus a point to patatitta, at least now I can distinguish which 'age' I dont see as quality.

Also if anyone wonders why I am not active. What's higher about the new requirement? The hardest part of the old stuff was the achievement aspect.
If the requirements were as high as you've claimed the denizens Emjakolic, MaxIsABigKaiju, Kori and BeaniCraft would not be denizens in the first place, unless you know something about them that I don't.

Otherwise I assume the requirement increase you must be referring to post count and time spent on the forum, which isn't really difficult.

Granted I don't know where to find these new requirements so I don't really know what's going on. No, I have not actively looked for it, so I'm aware that's a fault on my part.

the achievement thing wasn't actually explicit in the requirements, it's just something that it was added on extraordinarily, I mean the time and post requirement are the highest
Ymir
Considering that this is the first time (at least in the time I've spent here) that meeting a certain post number and time is the only factor necessary, I'd argue that it's much easier to get denizenship now despite the whole requirement thing being some add-on.

On a side note, I was under the impression that denizenship required 20 pages previously (1000 posts I believe). I'll probably need to fact check that sometime later.

The thing about needing to actually "achieve" something on OT was added quite late (in the history of denizenship) never really enforced, if it was there would have been almost no denizen since.
When there were events it would have been people who organised them but now OT is less big things and more small things so most people don't do anything significant aside from just being here, which imo is enough to be considered a part of the community.

I really can't find anything, even in the ghoulybits change announcements it was only mentioned that you needed to submit a list of achievements to a member of parliament (something that I didn't do and still got denizen btw, like, was this ever enforced at all?), there was no mention of a post count change

Ymir
All I know is that I definitely wasn't the person to create this 20 page rule. Quite frankly I can't even remember when it was communicated to me, but it definitely was a requirement; and it was one that makes sense too.

As for the list of achievements, one of my goals was to bring that back sometime through denizenship registrations but eventually we scrapped that idea altogether after realising that all the initiative did (for the most part) was give denizen to people who should have had it already. Though I still think that listing achievements should be brought back properly, the only issue being denying someone denizenship after offering it is both a little disrespectful and a little complicated.

Not really related but as I believe I've stated before a few times, the list thing was never a formal requirement, it just made it easier for us and allowed people to show off things they felt could be overlooked. It was merely a way for us to allow someone who wished to be denizen to show off why they thought they should be. While it isn't written down anywhere that I recall, there's a strong chance that Penguin is behind the 20 page thing. That seems like a rather Penguin requirement.
Achromalia
penguin strikes again u.u otherwise a reasonable bit of forethought through the list, but i guess it's still ultimately an unfortunate case of ambiguity/arbitrarity in practice from how people seem to have grievances with it

nothing else to add, i just wish it were better with clarity for people when it'd been implemented

...not that it necessarily must've been just a matter of clarity, but... it's interesting to return and find these experiences with systems of denizenship being left here in this state

Nah, I was always against the page requirement cause people were just spamming dogshit single word posts just to hit the post/page requirement, becoming a denizen, then leaving, having never really been a part of the community in the first place.

Unfortunately, people attach a lot of value to being a denizen, which leads to them prioritizing chasing the "status" of denizenship rather than naturally just becoming a denizen by being a part of the community.

interesting moment here, so i think poly was searching for an illustration of hypocrisy...? or at least, there's a world in which poly is finding a way to stare daggers at anyone who is a post farmer

...but i also think there's a chance you maybe were already thinking that and there could be some weird passive-aggressive thing going on between you two?

but now i think im reading too far into this

but like, why are people like that,, why am i like this? fascinating

i hope i might understand your opinion there... arguably though, there is more to personality than anime threads and making flippant jokes and having specific argumentative debates with people. like, over the semantics of what we mean because any given selection of any given size of us forum denizens will misunderstand each other at some given moment in time for different reasons, and so on

idk how, but? it seems to me blushing has lots of personality imo, which if im asked to demonstrate, i will probably either fail to demonstrate or take a while to elaborate on the few times i've ever interacted... which is largely similar to the way i would likely fail to demonstrate/elaborate why i think you or winny or pata or whoever else would have plenty of personality;;

...taking a step back... in truth, i think i'm unfairly presuming a lot more likelihood of you or other people viewing my responses with scrutiny than was merited of me to assume, it just seems like these kinds of commentary tones are rather common, instinctively i'll over-articulate myself for all those scenarios...

in any case, congrats blushing for being ok and being here

though i might be biased because of the one (1) dm during the one (1) time that one (1) thing happened, and the zero times in which i've faced whatever it is that could possibly be considered a "repercussion" in recent memory from the gmt members

yeah it was hipocrisy what I was referring to or trying to get out of that

about the personality, not saying blushing doesnt have one, but its highly filtered to fit on everyone's taste.

NOTICE

While this user just barely meets the time requieremt to be a denizen (like this is only like 2 days overdue), the impact it has made on OT is undeniable, mixing very well with the computer science crowd that we here in OT notoriously have and overall becoming a core member of OT over the few months they have been active on this subforum, and while they may not shitpost, they for sure can RP!, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that starting today, BluePyTheWDeer_ will oficially join the ranks of the people who have spent way too long on this god forsaken forum, also known as denizen! I expect you to take this as a welcoming gift for having returned to OT.
