The definition of denizen has always been ever changing, but it currently means to be officially recognised as a member of the OT community. To become a denizen, currently, you must be active in OT for at least 8 months and do a total of at least 500 posts.
Commonly named oldfags, this age contains the oldest users in OT, the ones that first arrived after the forum creation, long before the term "denizen" even existed. This age consisted of what were glorified forum games, very different to our current age of schizoposting.
The first people who officially got denizen during their lifespans in OT, all of these denizens were added following the previous rule. This age was characteristic for it's constant roleplay and worldbuilding inside the forum. This age started in the 11 of february of 2019 with the creation of the "ATTENTION Newfags, Midfags, Oldfags, and Otherfags!!!" thread and the establishment of generations.
In 2021, people started to feel furious, they felt that denizenship just allowed everyone in, and some people only posted for the sake of obtaining denizen, that is why the current president penguin, passed a proposal the 19th of march to increase the denizenship requirement to 8 months from the previous 2 months. This age was very similar to the previous, however, tensions about denizen were starting to form.
The next grand reform wouldn't wait long, as only a year later, more specifically the 11th of december of 2022, a new reform would pass by current president GhoulyBits that would require denizens to contribute something to off-topic before gaining denizen, making the selection process subjective for the first time in denizenship history, however, the parliament was really slow, so this rule was never properly enforced. This age was characteristic for the death of ot!lore and roleplay.
The dramas surrounding denizen didn't stop after the previous reform, if anything, they were amplified with some controversial decisions such as removing users from denizen or adding denizens who the rest of the community didn't see as one. Current president Patatitta decided to do another rework to the denizen system in hopes of fixing this issue, by removing the idea of generations as they currently stand and replacing it by the ages you're currently seeing (idea by sametdtze). The post requirement was reverted to penguin's age, only requiring 8 months of activity, with the added requirement of 500 posts. And removing the quality requirement GhoulyBits introduced.
