You may think, but there is a good reason for it. There is a strong desire for the GMT to be interweaved with the community. There have been more calls to bring people into the group who's purpose is not strictly to moderate but bridge the gap between community and the GMT/NAT/osu!team. Occasionally the idea of community ambassador or some equivalent role would come up, but as of now that's also GMT/NAT's job as well.Karmine wrote:

Most people who become GMT are ones that did some sort of management, participated in osu events prior, or gave to the community in some way - be BN, host tournaments, voice in streams, lead ranking criteria changes, etc. I suppose there is unconscious favoritism within people participating officially organized events or made community impact instead of giggling amongst others in some little area you can chat in
That's kind of a bad way to select GMTs imo
You're a good GMT. And from what I can see, you care about the community. I just don't want to see OT die.abraker wrote:

If you reduce GMT to strictly moderation you get an empty husk. I moderate OT, yea, but I don't just silently lock posts and silence, but I interact with you guys. I work on pp development. I am one of the few GMTs that actually go into multiplayer and casually play with people. That's all considered part of what a GMT should be doing.
Yeah but being active in chat and forums is also being part of the communityabraker wrote:

Classic moderator vs users mentality would disagree. Just look at how reddit is runKarmine wrote:

Don't confuse tasks that require vetting with stuff anyone in the community can take up. You don't need to be approved to run a tournament. You can organize one right now if you want to, no approval needed.Karmine wrote:
Pushing GMTs to do that would be like pushing BNs to moderate even though that's not what the role is for originally, it doesn't make sense to me

Yeah but what I mean should be enough to just actively participate in chats/forums considering:abraker wrote:

Doing more like playing in multi, development or organising events is cool and can certainly be encouraged but I think it shouldn't be requiredWiki wrote:

It is not required. It is expected. If GMT stops doing those that's fine, but that's what they would be favored for doing coming inKarmine wrote:
