Maybe the real OT was the friends we made along the way.

Maybe the real OT is in some dead Finnish Forum filled with a bunch of fish and a horny Argentinean.

You're right, I don't see much rebellious people these days.
Or maybe I'm not that active either.

Anyways, some moved on.

It's definitely missing some positivity (´。• ω •。`)
Ymir
It has way too much positivity that's the issue. What is this, a daycare? Be more miserable please.

I think we're missing interesting threads, like tournaments, competitions, or something different from the norm (at the moment, Patatitta's analysis corner is the only interesting thread I can think of, but it's been here for 10 months, so it's nothing new). It seems like these kinds of things are becoming rarer. A week ago, Manishh mentioned that he might do another Minecraft build competition, which would be interesting...

Maybe those threads that allowed us to rate each thread, like the one Patatitta made or the one Kobold made, should come back. Maybe it would encourage people to make the OT! fun again... or maybe not, if people think that longer threads (usually on very specific topics) = good threads.

With that in mind, maybe I could try asking ChatGPT-4o to create a tampermonkey script that when you visit a thread, it will show its average rating, and allow each person to rate it too. In this case I would need a backend service, maybe Firebase. The biggest problem is that I think almost no one will use the script...

The thing is, tournaments and competitions require long-term commitments, high effort and having new ideas constantly. Which requires dedication and time, that people, including me, may not have as much as they used to (also I can't create threads rn for obvious reasons). No one's gonna do a drawing/singing competitions, waifu wars or OT game night over and over again. Surely, the first time is fun. The second time is less intersting. And the third time it became boring.

Also, the other thing that's missing from OT! is roleplay thread. It died the moment that half of gen 7,8 and 9 became somewhat inactive.

i actually wanted to do some kind of tournament a while ago and i still do but the mods will nuke my ass if i do it

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Or at least you could make a thread asking people to register so you have an idea of the amount of submissions, and the if it's not enough, cancel

There's defo a lot of change since I used to be really active. I remember coming in almost daily to new developments in rp storylines, or nonsensical overblown bits that carried on for ages. I think that thread where everyone was just complaining the other day while showing little to no interest in trying to change things up made me a bit turned off from the forum for a couple days.
But yeah, change comes from within and all that. I reckon I'll try updating my cooking thread when I get my paycheck next month, actually try some of those cursed recipes after investing in insurance or something

denizenship died so nobody really has any reason to put quality into their posts anymore/put quality in to maintain their status

stomiks guided the “what not to do” and created the dichotomy between good and “shit” posts.

rp was really what kept everyone engaged (see quality above)

this place is like a cesspool of awkward coffee date talks and listless conversations

you essentially took the fun out of the game, nobody wants to play anymore, myself included

there’s no end goal, no “achievement”, nothing

I don't think a single person can revive a subforum considering

1. He doesn't have motivation to post here anymore
2. OT relies on other people interacting with your threads for it to mean anything
Karmine
Yeah denizenship totally is the reason why people made threads that were considered good at that time.
Jangsoodlor
Roleplay is dead. full stop. We live in a post-modern OT! era.

Karmine wrote:

Since roleplay is dead, denizenship, in my opinion, is also a dead concept.

1- No, denizen was never an incentive to make quality posts, in fact, most people doing "quality" were already denizen, so I don't get this point at all

2- I have no strong feelings about stomiks

3- RP was dead from even before you joined OT, you're talking about subjects you don't really understand

4- do you really need an "achivement", a "goal" in order to talk in what essentially is social media?, isn't just talking with people enough?, do we really have to gamify social interactions?

I don't get the whole "oh a lot of threads are just talking they're bad", like, if someone is passionate about something or just want to comment, let them talk about it?, they're not doing it out of obligation, they want to talk about it, calling it "lifeless convos" kinda feels mean
Ymir
In Pata's credit, 'quality' is a made up subjective term here, especially considering Off-Topic was originally made as a containment thread for quality-less posts.

But considering the culture shifted to posting le epic quality sometime ago, can people who seek it really be blamed?
I also don't think it's as simple as making your own high quality thread to combat the dead-state of OT, since that's a whole other experience for someone who probably liked Gen 7-9 OT as a participator rather than a creator.

there is nothing wrong with seeking to make a quality post, what I don't enjoy is people shitting on threads that aren't "quality" by their own standards, even if those threads aren't shitposts

Yeah Its Missing Blitzfrog , Kai99 , Johnmedina , Meah , Zekks , Endaris , Citremi , Comfy Slippers And Many More Between The 3rd and 5th Gen Range. Give Me Those Back Instead Of The Unruly , NEWFAG Children We Have Now.

so true
silmarilen
OT has always been shit. The reality is that people are just nostalgic for a time where they were new and they had people who they were looking up to. There is the occasional quality post, but they're not limited to older generations. Gen 1-5 was also 99.9% shitpost and 0.01% quality, with long periods of nothing of value going on, just like how OT is right now.

When i was new i also had people i looked up to, the "cool kids", and if they made a post i thought it was cool and i wanted to interact with them. But as i was around longer and i became friends with them i realised that they're also just some kids shitposting on a forum on the internet, and occasionally something sticks and it becomes a quality thread.

- people complain about quality no matter what era

- 95% of people dont know how to make good threads here

- rp era allowed people to use meta to base threads on. This helped the 95% who otherwise don't know how to function

- I like making lists

You forgot "people complain about the meta" as soon as it arrives.
