im sorry but what the fuck is up with GMTs deleting everything that could even slightly spark a debate? and why do they always do it without notice??

like come fucking on bro i can't even post about how people are supporting the ceo assassinator in general discussion. come on, GENERAL DISCUSSION. we could've had a real discussion there but nope i guess let's just keep general discussion as surveys 2.0! oh what? you don't want to read about technology in GD? you actually want to have a real discussion about what's going on in the world? oh well, LOCK LOCK! my god bro. like ok fine i get it you deleted my meme about the ceo assassination but an actual serious thread dedicated to discussion about the matter? why delete that? is it because you think people will start arguing? buddy, that's how conversations and discussions work, through arguments.

and i get it, OT is supposed to be for funny silly little conversations. but my god. why does everything even remotely serious get deleted, even when its posted in the appropriate subforum? is it because of the small handful of people in OT that are 12? is it because you consider osu to just.. not be the place? is it because you think the demographic people on OT are just too immature to discuss such things without it going retarded? i want answers!

and guess what? i've actually tried reaching out to GMTs when something serious happened and it all got swept under the rug. i tried PMing corne asking him why someone from the GMT team just deleted everything about someone who posted their last words on OT, and did corne respond? NOPE! initially, i was like, "ah, he lives in france, i live in ausfailia. he's probably asleep or something." and i left it at that.. 8 days later.. still no response. "well samet, you do know that corne is a gmt! they're probably dealing with a lot of people coming to them for assistance!" and i did consider this AT FIRST. but then after some time of waiting, i realised corne probably DID see it, but chose not to respond because.. honestly, idfk, "never let them know your next move!" or something. and why do i know that corne did see that message? it's because i've actually reached out to corne multiple times for assistance, and he usually responds either 10 mins later or like 2 days later. maybe it's that when it comes to serious matters like these, GMTs are trained to just.. not respond? i don't know, i just thought of that one on the spot. and i know it probably would've been a good idea to try messaging other GMTs at that moment, but i figured since corne was online at the time it would've been good to message him. and do you know what? i probably would've PMed corne asking him as to why my ceo assassination thread got deleted. but considering how last time i received no response, i was just like, "fuck it, im gonna cry about it" so they'll have to respond. is that a 200 IQ play?

and also, i'd just like to say, when abraker massacres the front page with his locks, i dont really care because none of those threads were intended to be real serious discussion threads.

but anyways, GMTs, please stop deleting everything that is even slightly outside the circle of linux. please and thank you.

and honestly, how much do you want to bet that the GMTs are gonna delete this one as well? how much do you want to bet that this thread is going to get locked eventually because it spirals into something it was never supposed to be? i don't know, i just have a feeling. if i'm being honest, i'm genuinely really nervous to press that green post button because idk what's gonna happen next. i'm most likely gonna get ridiculed and combo'd out of the universe. or maybe the GMTs might answer my questions.

alright just to be safe please disregard everything i've said and just stick to this;

Dear GMTs

Today I would just like to ask as to why serious topics being posted in serious subforums, such as general discussion, gets deleted? In general, why is it that serious real world incidents or events that get posted in either GD or OT get deleted? I have tried reaching out to you guys before and I have questioned your behaviours on this matter, but I have unfortunately not had any response yet. All I need to know is your reasoning.

Have a good one,

Can't really imagine new users or lurkers seeing such topics being so welcoming, don't you agree?
Subforums do not need to have that fuel placed in at all.

There's many other places to discuss said topics. I can't imagine the majority of people wanting to come here just to look at real world issues, that's just not the demographic that the forums hold, nor do I think it should be gained.

fair enough actually. this is actually a reason that makes decent sense to me and i can see why that might be the case. sehr guht, that's pretty much all i needed ig

that 2nd reasoning roughly wraps around to this quote

but i never exactly considered that new users would be scared off by posts of that nature. i think that matter more so depends on what kind of person we're dealing with, but i can't imagine that the people who play osu! would care about those kind of things anyways.

GMT won't respond to anything that would spawn an argument over why it's done. The most you can hope for is either "we decided it's against the rules" or "we were told to do that by ppy"

if you have issues pm me

if i had to take a guess, this is probably the most likely scenario

i already said this in another thread i think, but political/controversial topics are not allowed by mods at present. they used to be though. and i know this because if you posted that CEO meme in the ITT2 thread 7-8 years ago literally nothing would've happened

also i'm fairly certain the very few instances of "political/controversial" threads that have spawned here in recent times have always had people going like "Ermmm Mods Lock This XD", "Loool This Is Gonna Be A Shitshow!! XD" instead of, you know, actually contributing to the thread itself or just posting a meme related to it

so it's probably a mix of mods being more protective than usual and post-pandemic posters being unable to handle that stuff
also wow i'm extra boomer with my posts today lol. i need my walking stick already

the stupidity of ot:

Based off of what I know of old ot, originally the trait of stupidity was just a small part of the culture. But over time as more and more people joined ot, the new people started to only care about the stupid part of ot, to the point where 99% of the people of ot now are just here for that specific trait. Causing any discussion of anything serious to either end up nowhere, or become a large shitshow where there is just constant useless arguing that adds nothing to the discussion. So eventually, in the words of Serrai:

edit: I will admit it, I was one of the new people who initially came for the stupidity, but even I hate the fact that serious discussions can't take place in this subforum anymore

it would be nice to have threads that are more than just nonsense

i wish i remembered old ot with more clarity, i barely remember anything beyond being:

+ inwardly embarrassed, since i seemed to be inserting myself into too much and getting attached to people i shouldnt have... why was i like that? lonely and unheard, maybe? hard to know for sure...
+ and yet i remember being inexplicably liked by... a lot of people, but not necessarily most? how did i have such a positive reputation? who was i?
+ and very closely-held friendships, left to languish with time

what...? if so, i just remember myself and everything related to me, which i'd fear could be awfully revealing, or maybe not-- after all, i kind of forgot what i was talking about and had immediately gone introspective while digging for memories of this place...

+ in reality, i do actually remember ot being a bit more willing to be controversial, in one way or another
+ there did seem to be a much greater tolerance for those kinds of threads, people still made fun of some things but it was possible to be vocal or belligerent and not necessarily be in that much trouble, as far as i recall
+ additionally we've probably grown through a sociopolitical/sociocultural mixture of recent events influenced by people being relatively reactive in multiple different forms-- including both ironic absurdity and serious gravity

in a sense, i think that's how i imagine b0ii would have a very good point toward flanderization. maybe we've made caricatures of ourselves, somewhat. it seems to me like some people believe you really shouldn't take anything all that seriously and those are typically not that invested in a lot of these topics (or alternatively they may have opinions outside of this community but may not care to show them unfiltered with any unusual amount of perceivable detail/effort)...

...or on the other hand, some might be invested in very specific topics and be reactive to certain things (moderation behavior on the subforum, or meta threads, or an occasional argument that we involve ourselves in for Reasons (sympathy for someone's points? fun? common-ground of antagonism?), or the arguments some of us start because of conflicts of interests between each other... effectively, whatever it is that makes us care and actively weigh in on something in a form that causes moderators to step in (as a result of exercising heavier standards of moderation that avoid interpersonal chaos or political chaos)

i don't entirely know, i'm kind of just hypothesizing a messy range of things i would imagine to be plausible

I personally do think that the whole game was very poorly moderated in the past and shouldn't be taken as reference (like inappropriate posts and NSFW backgrounds on ranked maps for example). For real it took like 13-14 years to the game to have a proper report button on forums.

No, it's the internet of ~2010. It wasn't poorly moderated, the standards were simply different.

the standards were simply shit
