although i would clarify that i'd view the two premises of "tonal ambiguity" and "especially with language barriers" as being both connected and yet distinct
even as a native english speaker, english is still hard. partly because of english appearing complex and flexible in use (not necessarily meant as being comparative, although it could be considered that way if applicable), where it signifies so many different things to different people in specific in-group contexts that are not always easy to pick up on or immediately recognize beyond what conclusions you try to draw from context clues
corne, being conditioned from a local context of relationships and observations as well as habits in communication and in ideals (maybe in ways that enabled the opportunity for holding authority in moderation), probably just does not recognize those in-group contexts... or does not find them applicable enough as exceptions from scrutiny, such that maybe the individual-to-individual relationship with offensiveness or inappropriateness wouldn't appear to matter when visible in a public forum (which seems like a valid point to critique, but if this is the point people mean to articulate, maybe it will help if this is the frame we use since it could be more precise/accurate)
so to me, i would imagine the language barrier would not only be relevant in the semantics of english conversation but also the breadth of culture mediated through english conversation (although that might be redundant? i would still argue that they're different scopes of similar things), and that acquiring it as a secondary language may mean you are not as likely to be as receptive or aware of the specific tonal/semantic textures embedded in the language and its many dialects, picked up through experiences of language in practice
in that sense, maybe the argument is not totally neutralized by every other non-native having understood english well enough to converse, as corne also can converse relatively well-- but there may be specific areas where some people are just not that well-versed or persistently capable of reading through everything being said, and in this case it's at least plausible for the time being that corne does not relate to or understand the english-speaking petri dish of culture, culture often familiarized through a convergence of contextually-specific experiential practice and personal ideals/habits/impulses/methods
