foreword
i told myself i was going to do this early november but the spooky collab happened so now we're doing it a third into it (technically still early but not as early as i was going to)
so. with the blessing of nomi several months back, i'm personally rebooting and refreshing this idea. some stuff is the same, but a bunch of stuff regarding organization has changed. i'll explain this later in the post

in osu!standard, combos are represented by a set of objects (hitcircles, sliders) in the same sequence of numbers, starting at 1 and increasing by 1 for each new object. new combos are shown when this sequence resets and the color of the hitcircles change. for example: 1,2,3,1,2,3,4,5,1,2 can be split up into the combos (1,2,3) (1,2,3,4,5) (1,2)
our aim here is to make a collaborative beatmap where users map each combo in turns
anybody is free to join, even if they aren't fantastic at mapping, or interacted with the community at all. just note that once this map is finished, i'll be doing a separate difficulty that cleans it up. the original will still be kept (with some change for playability), this will just be an alternate version
i recommend watchlisting/bookmarking this thread (button at the bottom-left corner of the page) to keep up on updates, since it doesn't remain on the first page often (nor do i want to spam this thread with updates)
to lay out the phases:
> > song submissions, ENDED > song voting: round 1, ENDED > song voting: tiebreaker, ENDED > diff voting, ENDED > mapping, ENDED > cleanup >
our current phase is: CLEANUP
> > submitter - 179bpm > title - 愛して愛して愛して (Aishite Aishite Aishite) > artist - Kikuo > link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTrm_idbhUk >
we'll be mapping a single difficulty in osu!standard
> > don't worry about hitsounding. i'll handle that once (if) the map is done > > you're free to add inherited timing points, but not uninherited timing points > you can only use inherited timing points for slider velocity > > timing points marking the start/end of kiais have already been added by me > you're free to change the sv on one if it affects your combo > > don't add spinners where the song doesn't support it (especially if they're long) > you're free to add a spinner at the start or end of your combo as you see fit >
as for combo rules (taken from the original thread):
> > make sure your combo is a reasonable length > usually, mappers would make a combo last for a phrase of music > (think lines of lyrics, they're not just one big line) > to make things less abstract, these are some rules that your combo must follow: > > combos with over 33 objects must: > be comprised of only circles spaced 1/4 of a beat apart (i.e. deathstream) > > combos with over 17 objects must: > be comprised of only circles spaced 1/4 of a beat apart > OR be up to 2 measures/bars long > > combos must not exceed 129 objects > > also, please make your combos a reasonable length, these rules are just the outliers > most combos last between 2-10 objects > don't make every combo 17 objects long if the song doesn't support it > > let me know if you think any of the rules should be changed/removed/added >
if you break any rules, you'll be given one chance to correct it before your turn is skipped
the way we'll be setting this up is a queue system. you can type either "/queue" OR "/queue auto" to join the queue
the difference between these are:
> > /queue: > after your turn ends, you'll be removed from the queue until you queue again > this is mainly for people who want to contribute > but may not have the time for being cycled in automatically > > /queue auto: > when queueing, after your turn ends, you'll be automatically cycled back into the queue > this continues until either: > your turn passes three times in a row without any additions > you ask me to remove you >
if it's your turn, you'll be given about two days/48 hours to add your combo, export your part, and dm a download link to me
after that, i'll update the map with a bookmark around where the new combo ends, so the next person can quickly jump to it (this is mainly for the later parts of the song, if we get to it)
keep in mind that people may take far less than 48 hours to get their part sent in, so the queue can cycle really fast. this is one of the main reasons why the deadline is as long as it is, even though mapping usually takes less than an hour
you're free to leave the queue at any time. if it's your turn right now, you can ask me to skip it. note that if you're being cycled back into the queue after each turn, you'll be cycled in after skipping. requested skips count as a turn passing with no additions
