foreword
i told myself i was going to do this early november but the spooky collab happened so now we're doing it a third into it (technically still early but not as early as i was going to)

so. with the blessing of nomi several months back, i'm personally rebooting and refreshing this idea. some stuff is the same, but a bunch of stuff regarding organization has changed. i'll explain this later in the post

in osu!standard, combos are represented by a set of objects (hitcircles, sliders) in the same sequence of numbers, starting at 1 and increasing by 1 for each new object. new combos are shown when this sequence resets and the color of the hitcircles change. for example: 1,2,3,1,2,3,4,5,1,2 can be split up into the combos (1,2,3) (1,2,3,4,5) (1,2)

our aim here is to make a collaborative beatmap where users map each combo in turns

anybody is free to join, even if they aren't fantastic at mapping, or interacted with the community at all. just note that once this map is finished, i'll be doing a separate difficulty that cleans it up. the original will still be kept (with some change for playability), this will just be an alternate version

i recommend watchlisting/bookmarking this thread (button at the bottom-left corner of the page) to keep up on updates, since it doesn't remain on the first page often (nor do i want to spam this thread with updates)

to lay out the phases:

>
> song submissions, ENDED
> song voting: round 1, ENDED
> song voting: tiebreaker, ENDED
> diff voting, ENDED
> mapping, ENDED
> cleanup
>

our current phase is: CLEANUP

we'll be mapping a single difficulty in osu!standard

as for combo rules (taken from the original thread):

if you break any rules, you'll be given one chance to correct it before your turn is skipped

the way we'll be setting this up is a queue system. you can type either "/queue" OR "/queue auto" to join the queue

the difference between these are:

>
> /queue:
> after your turn ends, you'll be removed from the queue until you queue again
> this is mainly for people who want to contribute
> but may not have the time for being cycled in automatically
>
> /queue auto:
> when queueing, after your turn ends, you'll be automatically cycled back into the queue
> this continues until either:
> your turn passes three times in a row without any additions
> you ask me to remove you
>

if it's your turn, you'll be given about two days/48 hours to add your combo, export your part, and dm a download link to me

after that, i'll update the map with a bookmark around where the new combo ends, so the next person can quickly jump to it (this is mainly for the later parts of the song, if we get to it)

keep in mind that people may take far less than 48 hours to get their part sent in, so the queue can cycle really fast. this is one of the main reasons why the deadline is as long as it is, even though mapping usually takes less than an hour

you're free to leave the queue at any time. if it's your turn right now, you can ask me to skip it. note that if you're being cycled back into the queue after each turn, you'll be cycled in after skipping. requested skips count as a turn passing with no additions

By the way, is mapping done in turns?

sort of, yeah. the order of the turns depends on the order people queue in. it's pretty much how the ot!book does it (aside from the priority queue stuff)

edit: i might consider a different format, though. the queue style was just the first i thought of, but something more automatic could work. i've got a bunch of time to decide how exactly i want to do things anyways

bumping this to tell everyone that you have ~2 days left to submit any songs you want to see mapped

if any songs tie, a tiebreaker round will be held for two days (48 hours) between the tied songs. if any songs tie within the tiebreaker round, one will be picked at random

in the first round, if all songs tie, then one will be picked at random

this project is a really cool idea (real) (no bias) (im definitely not 6 days late)
Corne2Plum3
I hope they're not going to put very fast sliders in the intro like the previous time
ClevelandsMyBro
cool but my concerns are that it would take way too long and the end results may be a little... subpar

however as a fellow mapper of the ot community i shall wish you good luck on your endeavour my good sir.

i won't be giving any more updates on how votes are going

i really dont know what to vote lmao, the camellia song is on the worse side of camellia songs imo and aishite x3 is on the worse side of vocaloid songs

which makes Aishite x3 the winner (sorry corne). but it does mean we finally get closer to starting to map. first, however, we need to decide on a target difficulty. i'll handle the other settings based on that

this poll will last for 3 days (72 hours) from when this is posted

if any of the options tie, a tiebreaker round will be held for 2 days (48 hours). during the tiebreaker, if any options tie, one will be picked at random. if all options tie, one will be picked at random

pro tip: rather than SR just define a difficulty (Easy, normal, hard, insane, expert),

It's the better way of defining difficutly, now, if you vote like expert, then it makes more sense to really stablish sr if you guys want to map a 8* (which I don't recommend because the note count would make this thread impossible to finish but you guys have already voted for a 4 minute long song so you were already fucked beforehand)

i mean, i can edit the poll to include difficulty names and split some of the higher ratings, but i don't really see much reason to change it elsewhere

choosing a difficulty makes the map more concise and easier to map. By having those restrictions and guidelines the ammount of posibilities youi can include on a map are reduced, so it's easier to map. Not only that, but if the song has a diff spike, you can let it be a diff spike. If 6* is voted, and someone has a calm section, they probably wouldn't be too comfortable submiting a 3* part, however, if insane is voted, and someone maps a really easy part, but that part follows rhythm choices that would be appropiate to an insane, it does feel better. I feel most mappers really take difficulty name as reference more than sr

ok, how about this: i'll make the poll pure difficulty and leave out the star rating. it's the easiest way i can think of to resolve this

edit: by the way, to all: you can change what you voted for if you want to
Corne2Plum3
Go pick either Normal or Hard it will be easier and faster for everyone

i went with insane because

1. i would say 4-5* is the average players
skill level

2. i can only map 1-4*
