But yeah, shotgun symphony is probably the hardest in terms of complexity in patterns (4d is just hard because high bpm and long/huge streams).

Excluding all the maps that were made for watching Auto playing, Big Money would be the hardest, of all the ranked maps, TAG4s are the hardest, then Scoapp, nickname for image-material, then stuff like big black, freedom dive, pluto, and everything else, I guess.

From ranked maps id say freedom dive, big black, ghost of 3,13 or image - material

Unranked the most impossible thing i have seen is lemon tree from MillhioreF, serious shit from cookiezi and some random vuvuzela shitmaps. Being possible to pass dunno, maybe some Aqo maps (i dont know very much about unrankeds XD)

PD: i still remember when i saw scarlet rose when i was starting and looked incredibly fast and hard. I cant pass it yet because my reading is shit, but doesnt impress my at all anymore xD

Nothing else is hard to pass.

EDIT: Maybe AugoEidEs if you're accepting gimmick difficulty.

I actually passed Desire Dream with HR, and almost passed Augo with HR.
They're both OD8 but also only HP6, they're not that hard to pass nomod, gimmicky hard but not hard enough to fit in the "Hardest Beatmap Ever" category imo.

I'm inclined to say Image Material is harder than FDive [4d] because of it's insane 270bpm throughout the whole map. I doubt even Cookiezi can get above 99% on that...

lol he can, rrtyui got 98+ acc untill he broke combo already once (about 1700 combo), and the map is just high bpm, it stil has more passes in a month than 4D has in a year

270 BPM AR10 and it plays like a normal somewhat challenging map with half-time.

near constant 222 bpm deathstreams is still harder simply due to how easy it is to fuck up and miss a note and it spirals out of control.

I can pass image material 90% of the time and could probably fc it with less than 1000 tries. It took me 1200 tries to pass 4d 3 times with C ranks.

Shotgun Symphony+ was mapped for difficulty, and that's really about it. It does a pretty good job at that by having weird patterns that are the polar opposite of flow, and it's harder to nomod FC than even the likes of Big Black or Pluto. Passing is pretty easy though just because of the hp6 and relatively low note density.

What I see from 2013 stereotypical mappers: They're here to fullfill the players' needs of incredibly hard maps, so they forget about quality or following the song, for the sake of making a very hard map that players will hopefully like.

This might come as a shock to you, BD, but some people see osu as a video game and not as a jukebox and actually play for gameplay and not for listening to random songs they don't even like.

I can understand that there are ppl who play for difficulty and ppl who play for fun (as u called "jukebox").

Ppl who playing only for difficulty are hypocrite aswell, some of them were suggesting me to avoid map calm songs because its boring for them, I was just laughting.
BD is right in most cases about 2013 players.

As somebody who actually enjoys difficult maps and keeps in contact with people who play them, let me point out one huge flaw in BD's assumptions: most people prefer easy maps over hard ones.

He probably doesn't realize it because he's just going around being angry all day that his calm maps aren't getting as many plays as he wants; but the truth is that difficult maps are much more of a niche thing that very few players are interested in playing and the vast majority of osu spends a lot more time playing calm easy maps that they feel comfortable on.

One group might be more vocal than the other but it's very wrong to assume that all 2013 players only play hard maps and ignore calm songs.

It's inevitable that somebody who can actually plays hard maps would need very few tries to produce an FC or an otherwise satisfying play by their own standards on an easy map, while needing many tries to beat a truly hard map; so if you look at those people you might get the assumption they only play the hard maps all day because that's what you'll see them spending most of their time on - but in reality for every one hard map they play they also play 50 other easy maps.

I remember you said at one point that you're angry that people only remember maps you made like big black and airman while not remembering your easy ones, but guess what, somebody who FC'd an easy map in 10 minutes with DTHD isn't going to be left with a strong mark of it in his memory and he's not going to discuss it a lot later or keep retrying it after he already FC'd (or got the rank he wanted or whatever). It's not that he hated it, but you're not going to hear about it a lot.

If you're angry that people are not fav'ing calm songs and discussing them left and right then you're forgetting the most basic thing that osu is a video game and not a jukebox.

Also, Aqo's post really does bring a point. However, I don't mean that "easy maps should be the center of the game", but that people should care more about following the song AND that there are some outstanding easier maps that are largely ignored simply because of the fact they are not hard enough. I didn't say all hard maps suck and that people should only play/discuss easy diffs.

Anyways, enough talking about this subject, we're not going anywhere. It's obvious that things will stay the way they are (as bad as it is).

Of course. Easy maps are extremely boring to me, hard maps are extremely fun to me, conclusion: I play hard maps. Map quality = challenging, fun to play, and maybe good looking for me. Some other people find map quality in something else like you do. I'd rather have a completely overmapped fun to play song than some perfectly mapped easy.

Games are for fun, if you have fun playing challenging stuff then that's what you are gonna play, and easy maps are not challenging at least you are half retarded or started playing this game a week ago.

Also, you are still wrong, most players are bad and play easy maps, thing is casuals don't really get into the forums and post, they just play, like in every game, so you won't see them here posting "qq that is too hard and ugly I LOVE THIS --> [Link to easy]".

Shall I feel offended now because I started playing 2013 and play for challenging myself? x_x Pointless. My personal view: No matter what game I played, I tried always to challenge and improve myself. That's at one point not possible with only playing easier maps. And yes, I have more fun with focussing 100% on the game instead of waiting for clicking the next circle, while watching TV. When I start playing Osu! I do it because I want to play, not because I want to touch myself while playing.

Take a look at the multiplayer lobbys and you'll see how many people are playing hard ones and how many playing easy ones. Just saying.

You know, the point is, Ellie Goulding - Burn by Ultimate is an OUTSTANDING map, it is INCREDIBLY good and fun.
I say that as a mapper and modder.

But when I'm actually playing I strive to become better. And since I won't improve all that much from playing that map, since I can already FC it, I most likely won't play it except for some random plays when F2 spits it out and I'm like "oh that map, might as well play it rn" after ranking on it.

Idk, I know more people who are hanging on hards for about 1 year than people who are playing really difficult stuff to improve themselves. Anyway, you don't need to care about what people prefer to play. And you don't have the right to complain about it. It's their business and you have to deal with it.

People are playing with different intentions, that's a fact. So get used to it.

For me, map quality means that the map is fun, to be fun it has to be challenging. But that's just me, even if you submit the best map ever and get it ranked if it's very easy I'm gonna call it BORING.

The biggest issue is that making a hard map that fits well is SO hard.

If I listed all the hard but actually impressively done maps, my list would be rather short. It's not that people don't want to follow the song, they just can't.



EDIT: And they never could, the only difference now is that there are more people who want hard maps in 2013.

80% active players and players who CAN play insane maps (what mean that they can play hard and calm maps).

I didnt mean of course these 3,409,000 players where most isnt active ; )

i find fast maps rather boring, unless they're mapped to the flow/fits in with the song. No map should ever have to use some crazy full screen jumps.

@BD you're only focusing on the negatives which is why so much h8 for 2013

You have to keep in mind that the standards now are higher than before 3 years trhough players like the Top50 and mapper like you (Big Black, Airman etc.).
Still can't understand why there's so much hate for people who want improve these days. Especially when they have fun with playing the game on a higher level.

I make hard maps sometimes, it's enjoyable

I like playing them and I like watching people play them, seeing who fails and who succeeds

Sometimes I can enjoy easier or slower maps, but only if I'm playing very casually... If I'm playing seriously I only care about going fast or getting a high rank, because that's what I find fun most of the time.

And I think this "well, only a small fraction of a percentage of the playerbase can enjoy them!" argument is very silly... the amount of well-made, challenging maps is very low compared to the amount of well-made, easier maps... I think it's really okay that difficult maps do exist to cater to those players that want to play them, and for everyone else, they can go find something else to play. There's plenty out there.

Anyways, this map is really difficult! At least, I hope it is (as that was my intention)
