eh.. I don't think there should be a "limit" to easy difficulties. Still able to bring a diverse mix of songs into the game. Some new players will probably look for those songs, to enjoy the game.Corne2Plum3 wrote:

think of the new player experience, if we stop enforcing easy as mandatory, a new player would be forced to look at older maps to find that diff, and what is most likely to happen is that the player thinks that level of difficulty doesn't exist at all, as they would lack the knowledge of "easy diffs were previously mandatory, now not, look at older sets."Corne2Plum3 wrote:

I say let them start complaining about the lack of firstPatatitta wrote:

is that really fair tho?, making the new player experience worse because we consider that hour and a half that it takes to make a easy difficulty is too much too ask?, yeah it's the most boring diff to make but it's also the quickest oneabraker wrote:

I'd say we can ignore Easy difficulties when the song itself is simple and slow.Corne2Plum3 wrote:

This alarmist "bUt ThInK oF tHe NeW pLaYeRs" is unfounded. New players will not miss easy difficulties because they go to normal diffs week 2. I know, I was once a new player. There is a significant burden to mappers spending wasted time making something they have no passion for.Patatitta wrote:

Making an easy difficulty IS too much to ask of someone who does not want to make an easy difficulty. When you force someone to do something IT IS NOT FUN. And need I remind you that mapping is supposed to be fun?

Where is this assumption that normal difficulty maps are too hard for players 2 weeks in coming from? Do you have an idea what new players few weeks in actually play? There is no shortage of low ranked players putting up 6 star maps in multiplayer lobbies. I think they will be fine if they miss out on a 1-2 star map, not that they care about it. Why must we take a hit on something that they don't care about?Patatitta wrote:

do we expect new players to play 2 weeks at a difficulty level they aren't comfortable with?, that isn't a good new player experience
we're the veterans here, it's healthy for the game for it to be us who take the hits, instead of new players, also, ranking easy difficulty is not a bump for new mappers, when you start mapping you do it unranked and you aren't forced to follow the spread, after that, if spending an extra hour is too much to ask, just map a type of song that doesn't require a easy difficulty in the spread. Easy diffs aren't making mapping significantly worse and they make the new player experience significally better.
This will probably be the best thing to do, but I personally believe that most new players jump straight to Normal difficulty maps, as most of the time the difference between Easy and Normal is hard to gauge and the line between them is blurred.abraker wrote:
Ya know I might just spend some time asking random 6-7 digit players whether they think it's worth mapping easy diffs. We'll get our answer then
Debatable at best? The points you try to make in this thread feel like you're acting as if every easy map in the game is suddenly going to become lost media, simply because the requirement of mapping them is gone. I'd also like to ditto what Winnyace said, I think if you showed an Easy and Normal map to literally any player, beginner or experienced, they'd have a fairly hard time picking out which is which.Patatitta wrote:
I don't know, it's changing the new player experience just to remove an hour of mapping from the top mappers
100% this, there's definitely other people like JAB who like to map a full spread, you could reach a nice middle ground by removing the outright requirement, and just listing it as a positive but not necessary thing to do if going for ranked.z0z wrote:

Uh... maybe I'm missing something, but all of your maps are catch and literally only one of them has a diff below 3 stars.Patatitta wrote:

Just because you enjoy making them doesn't mean everybody does.Patatitta wrote:
I just don't get it, i've mapped easy diffs, half the maps i've mapped are easy diffs, it's not a bad experience at all???????, I just don't get why alter such a important aspect of the game (new player experience) just to fucking completely remove something that is already optional in half the sets?
I have a lot of maps that I haven't upladed, also I have gds that aren't listed in the mapped part of the profile, and yes, I play catchkat5 wrote:
