we already talked about this in the discord, it's better from a moderation standpoint to just delete whatever is infringing on a thread than to mute the person and leave that up or whatever, also, if the point of deleting something without muting or whatever is to not make a big deal of a situation, giving warnings and talking publicly about it would go against that ideaPolyspora wrote:

yeah but just deleting it doesnt solve the issue, its a temporary fix. the person will keep being an asshole and the community will keep going down the sewer. there was something special about warning and telling which rule was broken, to not be repeated, it surely helped me understand how things worked here in the beginning.Patatitta wrote:

This isnt censorship, this is simply moderating. Silences on forums start at 1hr (80 minutes). This does not really do anything when the post is from 7+ hours ago. Your comment AND winny's comments, in my mind, would have been silenceable, but because no one reported it as it was happening it is one of those things like "ok it happened, shall we fuel the fire or just put water on the coals so it doesnt recatch".

1. You REPEATING what was deleted is already not a smart move.
2. My stance on moderating is harsh but I have to keep a reasonable mind when dealing with these things because it doesnt just impact you all. If you have complaints you can always direct message me, I am always open for discussion on decisions as we gmt (I) am human, I may not see it in the guise of an average user or even an informed user.
3. Maybe instead of rebutting Winny's comment with another snarky and antagonistic remark, reporting it might have led to a different outcome. Fueling the fire with more fire doesnt mean its going quell it.

They're very silent, actually, to the point where if Poly didn't bring this topic up, I wouldn't have noticed that my own comments on this very thread were deleted (and rightfully so). I agree that deletion of such comments is better than punishing the member with silence, but I think we should be notified in some way that our posts were deleted for x or y reason, as well as why we were muted.
