I want to get into FFXIV because hot girls.
oh, there's no shortage of that in the game, i can guarantee that. you'll fit like a glove in the specific clubs and venues that i'm not allowed to mention here because nsfwYmir wrote:

but honestly, the game is pretty fun, the savage/ultimate fights are some of the most memorable experiences i've ever had while playing. you should definitely check it out
also the next expansion is coming out next month so now is probably the best time to start playing
yeah, extremes are a really good starting point if you want to get into harder content. i don't run them a lot because they cause my brain to switch into mount farming mode, only to realize after a couple of runs how fucking atrocious the drop rate is. for real, i can't believe it's still so abysmally low after all this timeColdTooth wrote:

i am not safe
You mean Extreme Raid Progression? Of course, it is the best content in the game!Reyalp51 wrote:

I only wish you the best of luck, it was the very first synced hard and I did it on a job I only had less than a month of experience at max level (samurai which is extremely easy)Serraionga wrote:

at this point it's better than wow lol. played from mid-wotlk to sl prepatch and I wish I had jumped ship sooner. there are some things that suck like the transmog system and housing system but mechanically it's p good imo. raiding in particular is more enjoyable.Karmine wrote:

I'm personally aware that the free trial is there and i've been tempted to play it, but I don't know how I feel putting time into something that i'm going to have to I know I will have to pay a lot of money to continue, technically I could just quit after I reach that point, but MMO psychology manSerraionga wrote:

there is an option to play the game for free until the end of the Stormblood expansion (with some limited features) which is a lot. a whole fucking lot. i wouldn't worry about sub prices for now
i mean... that's the point of the free trial, it's to gauge if you enjoy the game or not, and if you'd see yourself paying for it. considering how long it is, and how much they allow you to play (base game + 2 fucking expansions) i don't see what's wrong with spending so much money on itPatatitta wrote:

tbh i've learned that the best course of action is just to quit in MMOS in general
ok here is the planYmir wrote:

WoW is dogshit by today's standards. It brought a lot of things when it came out (mostly slapping together things that were found in other MMOs tbh) but now it's pretty much obsolete and the only people who still play it are the ones who have been addicted for years.xch00F wrote:

I tried giving wow an honest shot again very recently after learning about the talent tree revamp, tried wotlk classic as well but I simply cannot stomach the game anymore.
My point is, when you put it objectively, yes, there is a lot of things to do, however, you don't play an MMO as you play an RPG, if you play an mmo and you're willing to put that much time into it, you expect it to become a forever game, playing a mmo, putting the time in to later just quit isn't really the way me or most people play MMO's, that means that at some point you will have to buy a subSerraionga wrote:

and besides, it's not even that much money, it feels pretty standard as far as MMOs go. i think wow's sub costs about the same?
i have played free MMOs before, but from my experience most of them usually fall apart due to shitty practices and/or changes that the community ends up despising heavily (or they simply can't keep the servers up), which make them not feel sustainable to play. ffxiv feels refreshing in that regard, it actually feels like a high-quality MMO, there's all sorts of shit to do for any kind of player and that's one of the reasons why i have so many hours of playtime
there are some insane people who actually started paying for the game after +500 hours of playtime (and judging from the date of that post, it was probably made before they expanded the free trial even more). i am pretty serious when i say there is a lot of shit you can do before reaching the end of the stormblood expansion. so if you actually manage to reach that point in the game and still be unsure about whether to pay the sub or not... idk man. i doubt anything i say will convince you
sadly you cant pirate FFXIV due to it being an MMOReyalp51 wrote:
The actual solution for expensive things
you're gonna have to run by me what "most people" means to you, because everyone i know who plays this game don't usually just "quit", they take long breaks (which usually last months) and resub when a big patch is coming or there is content that interests them, because it's dumb to keep renewing your sub when you're done with everything you like in the game (you don't have to stay subbed forever, it's not one of those games). that's very different from quitting the game entirely, and you're the first person i've come across who thinks that way lolPatatitta wrote:

In terms of price, apparently it's like 12€ a month, may be cheap for MMO standards, but it's very expensive for gaming in general, for that same price (or less) you can get yourself game pass, which IMO is a way better use of money, if you're offering games like persona, against the storm, hollow knight, monster hunter or even diablo IV for the same price, FFXIV must be REALLY FUCKING GOOD in order to really make up for the opportunity cost of missing out of those games
i mean... that applies to most MMOs tbh. another reason i stopped playing those free MMOs i mentioned earlier is because eventually all my friends stopped playing them. friends/known people always make the difference!!Karmine wrote:
FFXIV can be good if you have a full party to play with but the moment you're solo it's boring af. Also doing stuff with people who are much higher level isn't good because of how the level sync system works (it's awful) so unless you manage to find a group of people to start playing with and everyone grows at more or less the same rate it's just a tedious experience.
When level is synced you also lose access to higher level skills instead of just having capped stats, it's just very unpractical when you don't use all of them at higher level.Serraionga wrote:

also i don't understand what's wrong about the level syncing, everyone gets their level adjusted to the fight/dungeon/whatever so you can experience the same difficulty it had during release, while also having the option to go unsynced and curb stomp the fuck out of it if you're higher level/accompanied by someone who's higher level than you and don't care about mechanics. how is that bad?
hmm, i don't think this is that bad. having access to all your skillset on low level duties would make it impossible for new players to keep up, which would lead to veterans resenting any new players they land with. i can't see this being good for the community ecosystemKarmine wrote:

Friends quitting the game are also the main reason why I stopped playing all MMOs I played, but some can still be enjoyed solo (at least up to a certain point) like SWTOR.
It works well on SWTOR, people don't tryhard with pickups.Serraionga wrote:

Hmph. Nob... You Have Not Unlockled The Level 96 Skill You ARE HIJO PUTA !!!! KICK !!!!!!!1 Y Y Y YY Y Y Y Y Y
that said, i understand your point. i'm also not a big fan of it either, me and my friends still loathe the times we get a duty below lvl 50 on roulettes (to the point where we just run the roulette again).
i actually caused a wipe on a lvl 32 dungeon very recently because i didn't have access to my instant heals as sage and noticed a bit too late. 11k hours of playtime btw💀
