I also think the anime is very good, but I think it's arguable that it could be considered a parody of the genre (or at least close to it). If the best magical girl anime is actually closer to a parody than to the classic genre, that would be kind of sad...Patatitta wrote:

short horror/toxic yaoi game with a point and click adventure gameplay loop. The game doesn't do anything that is that new or that shocking, everything it does i've seen it before, however, that doesn't make the game bad by any means, if anything, I tihnk it's a really polished game, lot's of small detail that I really enjoyed.
I think the story is tight, the paranormal/horror feel is a good way to tie into the psychological story they were trying to tell, the dialogue is well written and I really appreciate placing stopping points in some of the sentences so the text would take a few fractions of a second longer to scroll from that point giving part of the dialogue more emphasis. Some set scenes, like the optional mirror scenes, while nothing revolutionary (been a tried and tested thing in indie games since undertale did the "despite everything, it's still you", tho, omori REALLY popularized this set piece, having a mirror that after a specific point of the game had a small % chance of jumpscaring you which is honestly so sick because not everyone will see that scare), I think the mirror scene really serves a purpouse and is well done, it's not copying for the sake of copying, not because they liked the visuals and the feel and tried to emulate it without understanding the actual depth of it, the dev clearly understood what they were doing and they told their story in a really effective manner
now, the actual story, i'm more conflicted on. It's again, something I know a lot of people enjoy but something that I never quite understood the appeal. As I said on the beginning, this is a toxic yaoi game, there are two main characters, and there is a lot of romantic subtext between them which is basically confiremd on one of the endings. Spoiler warning, tho I think you may figure out reading reviews and the synopsis and screenshots of the game. turns out, your coworker is mentally derranged, essentially a yandere. And this is the part that I have conflicted feelings on. While this is a horror game, a lot of the scenes feel like they're meant to be arousing,
Again, not a new concept, yanderes have existed since forever, and some people have always been lusting over them, but recently it became more popular. This popularity surge I feel actually came from outside that otaku internet space, but instead, with the popularization of dark romance novels. This type of novel are mainly books targetted torwards women, which follow a female protagonist whose life somehow get intermingled with a male who is usually in some sort of position of power torwards her, for example a common trope is a mafia boss that kidnapped the protagonist. After that a relationship starts to form. These relationships are unethical, toxic, horrible to be in IRL, often consisting of coaxing or rape, but you know, fantasies like that are something that a lot of people find erotic.
This also happened in online LGBTQ+ spaces with toxic yuri and toxic yaoi, which are very similar, just very, as the name implies, toxic relationships, that would be hell to be in IRL, but are arousing.
The problem is that in the current era, sexuality is very much a taboo subject, it's considered a more valid reason to say "I enjoy this game for the story" rather than "I find this game to be very arousing", which I feel taints a bit of internet discussion, like, I'm sorry but you're NOT playing nikke for the story. Not saying that these people are lying, it's very easy to gaslight yourself to believe other elements of the game are peak just becuase you at a personal level don't want to admit it's arousing.
All of this IMO kinda muddies the message of the game, it's not explicitely erotic, but instead all covered in subtext and mashed in with what would be a typically artsy videogame. I've completed the game but I honestly struggle to find a takeaway from it. In normal videogame logic, the ending that is hardest to get is the true ending, and in this case, the true ending would be the one where you decide to stay with your newly found mentally insane dominant boyfriend. I didn't get that ending, and while I enjoyed going through the motions of the game, some cscenes got me to really feel stuff, I don't know if the story really meant anything to me.
It's a very well done game, undeniably so, I just don't know if this is exactly for me, C rank.
reading it, what you have is just personality data, not something I can talk that much by itself. It's like worldbuilding, sure, it's a fun activity a large ammount of people seem to do, not writing a story, just pure worldbuilding, but at the same time, worldbuilding is only good or bad depending on the story it's placed in, a nonsensical world can be good in certain context, as well as a hyper realistic onefrothyyy wrote:

1) i wouldn't have actually ever discovered the gamePatatitta wrote:
would you have played the game if it wasn't due to the fnaf IP?, if you did, would you have enjoyed it as much?, enough to warrant requesting it?
while that is correct fnaf world is different to literally every other five nights game. all of the other games are survival horror where you're in a little office and robots are coming to beat you, fnaf world is a cartoony RPG where it's all fun and cute. i figured you'd like a neat rpg game like fnaf world because it's nothing like the other five nights gamesPatatitta wrote:
fnaf is a franchise of mascot horror games with a largelly young fanbase, the games don't tend to be exactly super complex or really that standout. You need to understand i'm not the target demographic for this type of game, i'm a human being doing this in my free time, but franchises like this I know i'm not going to enjoy them.
wether its mascot horror or survival horror, that still doesn't change the fact that fnaf world isn't horror at all, it's an rpg. trust me on this, it doesn't trick you and suddenly becomes horror, it stays a playful and cute rpg no matter what.Patatitta wrote:
I said mascot horror, not survival horror, different concepts.
while that's fair, i'm asking you to try something which is totally different to the usual fnaf stuff. 1 and 2 and the movie aim to be scary but fnaf world does not try to be scary. yes i know im talking like a record on repeat but cmon dude. when i have told you its different to what you're used to, showed you evidence (the trailer) that it's different to what you're used to seeing from fnaf, i still don't see why you wouldn't at least try it for a bit because its nothing like what you've seen from fnaf. i mean, you've played the games and watched the film, upon watching the fnaf world trailer, surely you would've been like "ok, this is new"Patatitta wrote:
And again, I just don't trust fnaf at all, I know enough about it to know I don't enjoy it, I played a bit of fnaf 1 (or 2?, I can't recall), I've seen the movie, which people defended was good (it wasn't)

a baby would probably think, "oh, i'm not going to eat this new food because it has green slapped onto it, i associate negative things with green food based on past experiences" the same way you think "oh, i'm not going to play this new game because it has fnaf on it, i associate negative things with fnaf based on past experiences"
but.. if the baby tries that food.. he might like it
and.. if pata tries that game.. he might like the game..
do you understand where im coming from? you can't just keep avoiding games from IPs you've had bad experiences with, especially when someone's explained that what's being requested is different and new from that IP. if this was a traditional five nights game and you said, "oh yeah, i've already played the og fnaf 1/2, not a big fan of it, denied", or maybe even your "oh, i just dont like fnaf", i probably would've been like, ok, cool, fair enough since a traditional five nights game plays similarly to og fnaf but when we're talking about an rpg which steps out of the traditional office setting, ??? you're only rejecting it because you're biased

it’s depth. not just, “i don’t like fnaf,” but something like, “the party mechanics in this game seem weird,” or “this doesn’t look like the kind of rpg i enjoy, it’s missing x, y, and z.” even surface-level takes are fine if they show you actually engaged with what i showed you. maybe the trailer didn’t give enough info, i don’t know, but i was hoping for a bit more than a quick dismissal. (and, it does seem like the trailer kinda sold, that was my fault gang)Patatitta wrote:

just because it’s “his thread, his rules” doesn’t mean i can’t try to persuade him. people get convinced all the time. nothing’s stopping me from saying, “hey pata, are you sure you don’t want to give this a try? it has x, y, and z, and does a, b, and c, y'know, maybe it’ll actually surprise you.”Polyspora wrote:
