Yo aight. Making music is almost impossible without getting inspiration (well in my opinion) Sure it is possible to some extent but it's also hard to make people like the songs. As for the EP, It sure sounds similarly to sewerslvt and such. But mostly because i got inspired by it. It might sound cringe rn that the fact i say that. Like i try my hardest to make these kinds of genres and go original but it's so hard, to the point it sounds bland and such. I personally like the songs i make but it really hurts when someone says i have no identity despite me trying my best. It's demotivating tbh. For now, i try to get away with the breakcore, atmospheric dnb stuff because i want to do original songs. As you can hear some of the tunes on my music thread. And on the positive note, quite a decent amount of ppl liked my project and didn't see anything wrong with it. Yet again who knows if i would keep up or not. Y'all wouldn't care.Patatitta wrote:

I think you're missguided in your inspiration tho. I don't do music but I feel a good way of thinking would be to get a notebook and start analyzing the songs, kinda what I do on my thread but go even deeper, what techniques does the song use to evoke a certain feelign or for it to generally sound good?, then you apply those techniques to your own songs with your own vision and create something good for yourself, not, "This sound good in sewerslvt i'm going to put it in my song too" which is how it currently feels, inspiration is good but you feel more like a copycat than anythingAireunaeus wrote:

I see. Youre right tho. Throughout my idk like 3-5 years of music making, i never wrote anything that would make me make my original tunes. Like almost every successful artist has done that. For example squarepusher with his notes only He couldve understand. But yeah idk. Some say be you and some say be original. I can’t really make everyone happy.Patatitta wrote:

Yes i do use fl. Tho it’s an interesting concept. Never thought of using edison that much apart from making some random stuff. Thanks for the suggestion. I might do it fr and it might really help mexch00F wrote:
(I'm assuming you use fl studio, apologies if not)
no what you really need to do is put an instance of edison on your master track, set it to record for like 30 minutes, spend that time fucking around with that one plugin that you've downloaded but haven't spent much time with (you know the one), export that entire recording to wav, let it sit for a week, then come back to it and expand on the ideas you think are good, scrap the ideas that aren't
got it lelxch00F wrote:

Time to fire off some opinions, everybody not included is probably neutral
Sametdze - probably the closest one of all to me, mentally
Farfocele - ++rep, has the most mutual interests
Karmine - +rep
Winnyace - the controversial one
Kobold84 - chill, but has one thing I don't like
Lostsilver - too much fixation on art and characters
Marco - Miku
Patatitta - the contributor, actually has brains unlike some other people
zOz - FREEDOM RAAAHHHHHH
Aireu - the only associations I got are music and edating
There are also some inactive people and my irl friends who play osu, but I won't be naming them

I don't think you're not allowed using samples or a specific type of sound if someone has already used it, that is not what i'm arguing, I don't mean you need to be on the level of originality of the artist that basically created certain genres, what I mean is that you need to develop a identity that is distinct from the other artists.xch00F wrote:
if I load up a youtube tutorial on how to do a specific thing with a specific synth and then use that specific thing in my music, would you consider that to be or to not be original
you can shoot for originality all you want but the vast majority of us will never truly hit it. imo art that's compelling is more important and more directly impactful than art that's truly original. schoenberg could be a good example of art that's truly original, but not all that compelling, at least not to the average person.
sewerslvt does not belong in a discussion about originality when her music is boilerplate atmo dnb revivalism, the badly distorted pads covering up her complete inability to chop up drum loops. google "free amen breaks," download the rhythm labs ultimate pack and you will find that she's used several of these loops, as is. countless artists have used them. I've used them. osu's featured artists have used them lol.

my first rhythm game ever was actually a ps2 game called frequency from roughly 2002, it flipped a switch in my brain and I've been super into music ever since. the first music I ever made would have been around 2003 or 2004 using some dumb shit on the ps2 called magix music maker, but then in 2005 I learned about fl studio so I grabbed a crack and got to making some of the worst speedcore on the planet lmao. I think my first album from 2006 is still floating around on the internet but it is very edgy and awfulAireunaeus wrote:

hey so did mine! probably in part because we were using free/cracked tb-303 vsts lolMistressRemilia wrote:

Actually no! I started off writing General MIDI music in Cakewalk Home Studio ('cause I wanted to use some of it in Doom levels), then later used an updated Cakewalk Pro Audio. Later on I used Reason a bit, but didn't like it, so I moved back to using Cakewalk Sonar 8. I actually started using a tracker in 2014 (Renoise, so I can still use VSTs, though I've also dabbled in Deflemask and Sunvox). What's kinda funny is that I've never used flstudio or its predecessors.xch00F wrote:
