Why is "I" capitalised

Why can't i just write like this?

I did research, apparently English people started capitalising "I" in the middle ages because of typography or something?

But why care about that now like 600 years later?

I mean, you can do whatever you want, but I don't think we will see any major grammatical changes any time soon. I don't know if English has, but Romanian has a dictionary called DOOM (no joke), where it describes the correct spelling, pronunciation and usage of every single word in the Romanian dictionary.
