Is forgetting the old account still multi-accounting?

This is more of a hypothetical question, this is why im asking it here.

If you had an old account from like 2017, 2020 or whatsoever but forgot everything about it, email/password/name and dont have proof that you own the account would it still be counting as multi-accounting if you would create a new account?
Patatitta
pretty sure it doesn't count, you can just ask support to remove the old one if you really care that much

Yeah... Delete an old account that you have no knowledge about besides the fact you had it... I'm sure they can do that.
Achromalia
i fear that it still could be considered that way, but i don't actually know/remember either

the way i remember it, the description on multiple accounts seemed really quite strict about it. no exceptions for any circumstance, unless maybe there were exceptions i didn't know about (which is plausible)

It literally is. If you contact support though, they will most likely be kind about it if you've never gotten restricted or otherwise don't have a massive moderation history - they will just get rid of the old acc and maybe silence you at worst.
Polyspora
you should ask support to help you get your old account back, this is still multi accounting.

There are cases where it is allowed, ztrot used a second acc for his tutorials on the osu youtube channel, there is also osu!team that has barely ever been used.

Again, I really want to know how do you know what account you have to get rid of when you have zero proof of it belonging to the person you're talking with.

Like you forgot your username AND your email?

in theory, yes.

each person gets 1 account. If you ever remember any information about the account then you should email accounts@ppy.sh to admit the rule breakage to try and set the record straight.

Account support team can do some magic and see if one is tied to your current account and what not, so it might even be beneficial to email them if you are suspecting you created more than one account.

I will ask one more time: how do you even find it, even with your tools, with zero information about it? He doesn't remember anything. He doesn't know shit.

This is the magic part. It isnt known how they do it unless you are the one able to do it. Accounts hold information regarding hardware ID, IPs, Login times/Activity, etc. Im sure some correlation might be able to be tracked through that.

i see...

for practical purposes though, it really seems like a no-exception matter after all

i always loathed this, but that's... idk, i can't imagine digital anonymity would have ever been all that plausible anyway, grieving for it won't really mean anything or change anything. it's far beyond us and exists for reasons that are both unrelated and indifferent to anything like that, probably

I guess so. It honestly sounds a bit like too much work for not that much benefit.

I'm not aware of that but that sounds funny.

I've seen people share accounts/use multiple without really hiding it too so it's not like the multi account rule is taken that seriously. Unless you contact support/actively say it on forums/chat you're probably fine using multiple accounts (not that I'd recommend it).
burgernfat
yeah and the penalty is firing squad
Patatitta
i'm pretty sure vaxei had an old account and osu staff deleted it
