Why?
I've had the idea for a couple months now, thought it wouldn't really work in current OT!, decided to just throw the idea out there and see. It's been a while since I've done anything. Don't keep your hopes up though, this is just discussion space.

Would anyone actually participate in a short round based tournament of different (preferably accessible) games, assuming winners get some sort of prize (most likely a couple months of supporter but it's flexible)

I haven't really thought too far into it so if you are interested in something to kick off the Winter season feel free to suggest games and whatnot in the replies (I'll do some thinking as well).

In the event something like this is successful, I'll try to make this a yearly thing, for however long I live in this forum.

depends heavily on the games and if they're like forum games or like discord game night type of competition, but generally, I don't think so

Hopefully game(s).

There's actual games like Chess (nobody wants to play Chess), but I haven't really thought about what games are easily accessible and can be played in a competitive way.

There's the usual Forum Games: Quizzes through DMs about OT, some sort of drawing competition maybe, Guess the Denizen. I'm open to ideas if you have any.

Holy shit I had a very similar idea and was working on it, I literally just deleted the sticky note that had my ideas on it yesterday

Some ideas I remember:

Best OT thread
Best piece of creative writing
A talent show ype thing
A singing comp

For games:
Chess
Typeracer
Pokemon showdown random battles
Random other free games, it's not too hard to find stuff by just googling

I gave up because I thought it would be annoying to referee all this stuff, because I was thinking of like a massive 1v1 double elimination competition with each 1v1 battle being a random activity

Most people don't play the game, and the ones that do are quite ahead of the ones that don't. That's why I'm planning on ruling out Chess too, I want it to be competitive but not too skill based. Basically a more casual experience.

I used to enjoy participating in Mafia games from the subforum dedicated, and I remember there were more than tenth-fifteenth active people in some games knowing that there was no prize for anything (although the hype has gradually died down over time)

It will probably be the same result, or maybe even bigger if OT people are all ready for these Winter games

also /in, i like the pokemon showdown idea but there's also speedrunning slay the dragon (free on steam), insert free fighting game here (if anything, something on roblox as an absolute last resort), a tcg tournament (ygo, cardfight, etc.), or even just a random game gauntlet

I do this whenever I initialise a poll to somewhat mitigate a bandwagon effect occurring towards each entry.
