To ensure the tone used in the message is clearly understood

Just saying "seriously" or "just kidding" like a normal human being is too hard apparently.

tbf I think tone indicators can help to make jokes but it shouldn't be required or expected for people to use tone indicators when making a joke, whenever you're reading a book after a character makes a joke there is no need to clarify it is a joke

the only moments when I would support it is something like "i'm going to kill myself /srs", or "oh wow you did super well!!!!! /s", like whenever the addition of tone indicators is toxic, that's fun

Tone indicators are trying to do something significant, that is to clear up potential miscommunication (albeit how well they do this is debatable (and it's not helped by people abusing them)), and abusing them like this kinda just destroys their credibility by going against their intended use, so I really disagree with using them this way. There are people that find tone indicators useful so we shouldn't destroy tone indicators like this.

its useful if you can't see the person's facial expression and voice tone, bc were so used to wordplay and sarcasm, using it in text in some parts is hard to identify

I mean, my point is that you don't need tone indicators, book have jokes and they don't need tone indicators, you just understand it

Theyre more confusing than just trying to infer tone by context or language

personally i think it's better to use the whole word or just clarify in a separate sentence so more people immediately know what you mean)
That's what I said here:

You can use words everyone understand instead of shit that looks like a discord bot command and most people wouldn't know what it means.

/j and /s is for individuals who are so genuinely unfunny they need to clarify that their word vomit is in fact a joke or satire. Like a "Laugh Now" sign for a sitcom audience.

Usually I find that the '/j' makes the joke unfunnier, because the chances that the person on the other side of the screen is on some sort of spectrum suddenly became higher.

I agree with that point, my point was that you shouldn't abuse tone indicators because some people actually use them, especially those that struggle with understanding/conveying tone
