tbh I feel that if you just dont have money, there are lots of alternatives to gacha. You got POE, warframe, osu!, CSGO, you can download just any emulator, games like death stranding were gifted by epic, so like playing gacha is a choice, not just because lack of options
Hydreigon
Yes i agree its a choice and the other free games can be nice, the thing is its a different genre compared to those other free games, so some might enjoy CSGO more and spend more time in it, but others might not like and want just a singleplayer rpg like Genshin.

Emulating is nice, but i guess the con is that you can only play old games, and man i barely use the Epic games store, only just play Fortnite there and just deleted it once i was done with the game, other subscription service like PS Plus and Xbox game pass offer lots of nice games for free, but it cost monthly.
Karmine
My answer is the same as OP, fuck these games
Corne2Plum3
I don't play Gacha Games

Nanofranne
I'm not anymore. But I used to play arknights and it's not the among the best gacha games, It's among the best games.

It's the only game alongside with girls frontline, as far as I know to put your brain into good use to progress, not blindly swiping your dad's card. If you don't have the big brain or time to grind, you can simply enjoy the deep lore of arknights too! And of course, the music. It's not fire, It's straight up the sun

Among other gacha games, I think arknights have the most chance to appeal to normies too
z0z
yes, miku though i do agree that the monetization kinda sucks

there is always another option but

tbf that option is better than supporting the gacha industry

How would you define/describe Off-Topic?

My answer
I'm personally kind of unsure how I would define/describe OT. I see it as a shitposting sub-forum mainly, but really anything goes here. There aren't any strict rules here about content, so people just do whatever, so I guess it would be more accurate to say that it is a sub-forum of random topics and most happen to be shitposts.

New question

What's your opinion on the vintage computer hardware? Do you think there's still a benefit to talking about/repairing such machines? (The question can apply to anything old, really. I just chose computers since that's one of my main interests.)

My answer
I find these machines really nice and fun to play around with and learn about how they work. I do see a benefit, besides personal enjoyment: preservation and history. It's just nice learning about how the things we have now came to be. I personally plan to repair these machines too and restore them. I think it would be really neat and a fun hobby, if really expensive.
lostsilver
my friend really likes vintage hardware, but i think the os of them just looks cool :3
(also good morning ot)
Aireunaeus
well theyre quite outdated to use it for everyday stuff but i would keep them for nostalgia sake if im honest. very old computers for example from the 70s is honestly not for me.
Hydreigon
I think for most people, they would definitely move on to the more modern hardware as it offers better stuff and removes the hassle of repairing the hardware.

But for the more dedicated, like collectors, they would definitely keep them and try to repair them, as its there hobby and they like old hardware (Think this answer can sorta apply to other stuff as well)

yeah, no, those are really rare and also really hard to fix usually iirc

I wouldn't really use them either often either. Rather, I would keep them for history sake.

Of course. While Apple and other similar companies in vein are going crazy for their anti-repair and profiteering stance, older hardware still have its place. It may not be the fastest and the most efficient, but hey it works! if it broke, there's good chance someone I know can fix it and keep it running again

Well I was talking about more computers like the Commodore 64, the Amiga, super old Macintosh computers, etc, things with historical value, not really things that are 5-10 years old. Though your reply gave me an idea for another question, so thank you!

When I think of tech product, I already consider 5 years or more to be old because tech moves crazy fast. Not to mention the general trend of consoomerism that people replace their phone like within two years. But yeah, anything that old still have its value amongst hobbyist, a good thing!

New question

What's your opinion on right to repair?

My answer
It's really beneficial. It should be obvious why:
  1. Using an expensive, repairable piece of tech even years down the line is better financially for the end user
  2. Less wasteful, which is better for all of us.
To be honest, I heard that there are some people who disagree with this and I kinda wanna see if there are any here and why they think what they think.
Karmine
Just like you said there's not a single downside to things being easier to repair, only upsides
I've never seen someone who's against it but I've never talked to a billionaire so that must be why
lostsilver
it's nice
Nuuskamuikkunen
Right to not repair is one of the worst forms of greed. Also, it would be one of the highest forms of hipocrisy if a company states that they're ecological/sustainable while making their products impossible to repair. I don't buy that badly made greenwashing.
synthwavesquid

Corne2Plum3
Should be yes now to decrease the amount of wastes and reduce the amount of materials used. In the context of the world currently this should be something to have, if not a must.
z0z
right to repair should be a right, the consumer should be able to handle their personal equipment the way they want
Nanofranne
It is a universal right.

Companies that violating such right must be held accountable. Earth resource and human labour is finite and by making stuff unrepairable is evil. Hopefully more and more government around the world start to follow EU's path for breaking up anti-repair and fake 'go green' stance

What's your opinion on post farming?

My answer
TBH, I'm kinda off indifferent towards it. It annoys me, especially when I scroll through GD, but to some degree, I don't know if other forums weren't/aren't similarly "spammed" with replies.
lostsilver

[ Rynn ]
ehh, i dont have much opinion abt it tbh... i just leave the post spammers alone
Nanofranne
I'm also indifferent with it. At least people who do that have some insightful reply sometimes
Karmine
It's useless and makes everyone who wants to read through threads waste their time
Also when 90% of posts on a forum are pointless replies to farm post count people just stop checking there and the forum dies

I've never seen that on any other forum
Just checked one of them which was pretty active (I had 50+ notifications every day), I am still the 2nd member with most posts (it's dead now) with less than 5k posts in 5 years, the most active had ~8k posts in 7 years
Don't know if count is accurate since most of the forum has been deleted and I can't check my full history, but I remember spending about the same time on there as I do now on OT when I was most active so same post count in twice the time seems plausible
Here I have ~6k in ~2 years (counting OT/FG, where the vast majority lies), yet we have people with 10k+ (not counting OT) in less than a year
It sucks

as a former post farmer, I didn't really think much about postfarming. I just focused on quantity and not on quality. I eventually stopped postfarming as soon when I noticed that subforums stopped getting new responses and thought that postfarming just ruins the forums altogether. Not only that, but I also have seen others ranting about it, which made me change my mind about postfarming. Nowadays, I just post when I feel like it

I've never experienced this before. I usually fall asleep quickly, and it has never happened in my life that I wake up in the middle of the night (I don't know whether to be happy or worried). If I look at my cell phone at night, it's because I want to, not because I can't sleep. :)

New question

What do you think about the new Discord mobile UI?

My answer
I would actually quite like it, if it weren't for the fact that this new UI seems to have introduced some bugs which require you a full app reload. I had one this morning where the UI wasn't updating to display the latest messages I've sent to someone on a server. I thought my internet connection was bad, but no. The messages got through, but the UI wasn't updating.
Nuuskamuikkunen
I tried it when I had my phone (when you could use the sparkle emoji easter egg), wasn't that bad but performance was eeeeeeh.
lostsilver
i don't use discord
Karmine
There was a time when the mobile app was basically a copy of the desktop app/website, it was very easy to switch from one to the other as it was essentially the same interface
Now everything is much harder to do in the mobile app, things that I could do with 1 click just like on pc now require navigating through menus, and anything that I don't use daily I now have to actively look for instead of doing what I'd do on pc
I hate it
Kobold84
It's not bad, but I don't like the fact they're changing it for the sake of changing it. There're much more important things they have to do and which should be on top of their priority list.
Corne2Plum3

Hydreigon

oh wait they fixed this now
-

overall: i prefer the old, maybe its because its a bit harder now to navigate stuff but still
Aireunaeus
Well im quite mixed with the update. Part of me doesn’t like it and part of me does. The layout looks modern to fit the current aesthetic. What i kinda hate is that i can’t swipe to see the members. It just feels uncomfortable to click the channel info just to look at members. But the best part is that i can see all media what the server has posted which is pretty cool. There are so many things to say about the new layout but it would be very long lol
Kobold84
And the discord update was much better than this new chrome update.
Patatitta
It's fine, a bit overhated like every single change made to an app or logo in the past 5 years but I don't think it's necessarily bad
