The ranked system is set up in a way that mappers and BN have an optimization problem to solve. Mappers work toward getting their maps ranked as fast as possible, while BN look for ways to guarantee successful nominations with ease. So it's in mapper's best interest to make maps that are easy to nominate. Mappers who try ranking more complex maps do so at the expense of encountering more hurdles when ranking maps.
Additionally,
Ranked system favors mappers who don't take pride in their own work. It favors mappers who make maps who suit BN tastes instead of their own. It favors mappers who agree with any change a modder asks them to make. It favors mappers who don't care how many times their map may be disqualified.

it took me 2 weeks to find 2 bns for groovy. now, it took way longer for it to reach qualified, because of timing issues, but that's besides the point. both bns were super helpful, and they took up the mapset in no time. groovy is probably one of the most unconventional maps out there for a 4*, with tons of 1/4th slider sv changes at 123 bpm. the only problem that was faced was that the song was super old, so we had to fix timing. other than that, it was set for ranked. in context, the bns have completely different styles from mine. maridius maps a variety of different styles, while een mainly maps conventionally. compare that to me, with an unconventional mapping style similar to that of yudragen or grissaryth.
the bn system is actually fine the way it is, now looking at it. the system isn't just a bunch of factory produced maps. some creative maps do make it into ranked.
the reason why some people complain about it tho, is because they need to try hard enough. i get that, yes, ranking is super hard, but i personally believe that people should try hard enough. improve your map more.

@MinNin I am not saying that's what ranked is, but I am saying that's what ranked naturally leans toward to. Not all mappers do uncreative maps and not all bn promote such maps, but it would be the easier thing to do. There is a reason why ranked section feels generic or follows a common meta.

there's not just creative maps in the unranked section. there's also shitmaps that are supposed to break your computer, maps that failed to get ranked due to circumstances, uncompleted potential ranked maps, and maps by not so good mappers.

So what you are saying is that there are less ranked maps than unranked maps, therefore there is less interesting and creative maps in ranked than unranked? Is the distribution of interesting and creative maps somehow biased to unranked based on quantity? That doesn't makes sense. If you pick any of the the maps at random, excluding all the shitmaps, you should get an equal proportion of creative and interesting maps to not creative and interesting maps in ranked and unranked.

yes it has underaged characters, but unlike any other bgs the skirts are of reasonable length and the pose is nothing near sexual ones out there. Agree that the way the skirt is drawn is a bit questionable but saying it's borderline pedophilic is straight up bruh moment.
I honestly don't know why this has to be targeted when there are way worse one that is still getting ranked day by day. After the drama when there was an argument over the edited BG approved by GMT themselves, I'd rather just stand there and see what they're gonna do next.

How broad should this be taken? A reminder that all anime characters that involve highscool are (obviously) underage. That would involve a huge percentage of maps, thing that lots of people will make go REEEEEEEEE at best.

for my monody map for example, I didn't want to use the default album artwork because it's not as colorful as I wanted
so instead I chose a picture of miku playing the cello (samx can correct me if I'm wrong) because it's much more colorful (the image has purple, blue, and green) and there are cello noises in the song, so it seems fitting to have it. It's also not a lewd image in the slightest. The alternative image, the one that displays on the website, is there because my collab partner preferred that as the background for his difficulty, which I decided is another good image and allowed it
However, I would be willing to consider changing the background to the default album artwork if enough people want to see this changed
