Guilty as charged, as awp described maps that aren't too exciting. Breaking Up is Hard to Do, anyone?

But what concerns me (and assuming the rest of the non-BATs who frequently mod) is the fact that we mod, they fix, we approve, but no one else will look at the map, because it isn't starred or something. I've tried to bug actual BATs to star/bubble/nuke for me, but I rarely get success for the first two because they don't want to make sure I did a correct job modding, but too lazy/busy to mod it themselves. (This explains my giant seal of approval for everyone to see) Nuking is fine because it doesn't take much for someone which SOME modding experience to say GET THE BOMB SHELTER OUT, WE GOT A NUKE COMIN OUR WAY--- but stealing from Nuke Cabinets is harder than it seems, especially when again, mods are busy.

i don't think i have what it takes to be a BAT ( or atleast not yet )

but im kinda interested in getting more fun and beatmaps with Innovative Patterns ( if there is anything that hasn't been done yet )

so i will be checking beatmaps from now on, i have plenty freetime so i will test and give my opinion to the creators

also hmmm i have a suggestion... i think the BATS should gather a day and name some beatmaps and run a poll in the forum with those maps so the winner at the end of let's say a week the most voted map gets priority

Hm, I wonder if being active in #mod counts as being active in IRC...haha...Probably does when BATs see this activity being done.

Same here, I express public interest as well. Those requirements seem exciting and great...though in depth. I wonder if the current staff looks for that. But ap! No bashing the staff, they're cool cats.

Yes, I think there should be more BATs. There's very capable people that could do the job. Right now I see a few very active BATs, a few moderately active BATs, and then the rest I never see post and are very inactive. :<

Yes, maps are getting ranked at a steady pace, but like I said in irc a few weeks ago: There's thousands more users than there used to be. There are also dozens/hundreds more maps now. If there's no increase in BATs to compensate for this, then it creates problems and people start getting upset.

I think I have the qualifications for a BAT...but anyways...

In my greedy point of view we have enough BAT members.
I don't think so. We have too many maps in pending and work-in-progress. I don't think it possible... But I want balance beetween new map/ranked map.
BAT makes some people think they are more superior than normal mods.
True. I think. But some BATs (I don't want to say names) really better them normal modders.

More BATs does not necessarily mean more ranked maps. What we need to do is get all of our BATs active again.

Also theres much more to being a BAT than just modding maps, trust me.

More like equal priority. It's also a judge of character, since BATs are also forum / IRC moderators, and i think its a reallyyy bad idea giving those powers to just anyone.

Hmm... I don't know about this. Btw, this power is nothing. I don't think like really good modders wanna became BAT just becouse of forum/IRC moderation power.
Then сandidate in BAT/Global Mod should be persone, who has long been in game and who don't use your power in bad goal.

We need active BAT's that's for sure.
So why not make active modders who have been here a long time available for this so called "BAT promotion".
..btw if its called BAT why do they do more than just beatmap approval stuff?

This is to chop redundant and repetitive team things.

BATs are also known as the moderators of osu! as well. That's kind of why they have !silence, !kill, and other interesting powers of the like. They also help peppy identify bugs in test builds, so when you obtain your public build, there's way less of the troubles than what you'd originally get.

And I would recommend people, but I'm too much of a fresh meat for that. Too much BATs is also another thing, but that point has already been mentioned. ._.

Two reasons why current staff is enough but doesn't seem like enough:

One, as many say, is due to inactive BAT members. But rather than focus on who is inactive, focus on how active the BAT are as a whole. Some BAT members really do not mod a lot (and I mean like three times a month or something) but I tend to disregard them as an accurate representation of the "BAT" identity.

The second reason is that people are getting lazy with their maps. What is the ratio, I wonder, of BAT posts to BAT bubble/ranks. In a perfect world, it would be 1:1. BATs are considered experts in the field of modding and their opinions are considered valuable. But that's no reason to just do a half-assed job, sit back, and wait until one of the BAT comes along and lists all the problems/improvements with the map so you can go an' fix 'em without having to look too hard. Yes, the kudosu system has done a great job of getting everyone to pitch in and help out, but I just want to restate a very important point (this is gonna enter someone's sig, probably)

The rate at which maps are ranked is not a reflection of the efficacy of the BAT, it is a reflection of the efficacy of the community as a whole.

I agree with everything awp said above (Especially with the "Lazy Mappers" part), but a few more BATs wouldn't hurt.
I've always wondered, if peppy said there shouldn't be more than 2/3 bubbles, why are there like 7/8 bubbles? Perhaps we need more BATs to take care about it.

I'm just sayin', ignore me as you please. .-.

This sounds a lot like an original idea about having a special 'mod' group I heard about months ago, or a newbie BAT group (Something like that). It's more as in the lines of people in this special group were allowed to mod + bubble, but they couldn't rank. I don't know what happened to that idea now.

I don't think giving "pre-BATs" the ability to rank is a good idea. It's better for a more qualified person, such as a BAT, to do such tasks. They can bubble the map though (Pre-BATs), which doesn't hurt much at all (Has no bad consequences).

To help people with editor? There's the faq, tutorials, and anyone in #mod/#osu to help with that.

To mod? There's too many maps to mod for there to be a "team" of people to do it. Everyone just needs to help mod as a community :<

If the BAT were meant to approve. Global Mods were meant for the forums. The team for helping to mod would fit in pretty well right? I know the community can do a lot of work to help but we could use a little support with the ranking process. Even though I think its going much faster than before. This will prevent any future build-ups for sure.

also...if the team is created can I join? =o

EDIT: The team could have the ability to raise SP by like 5 or something =o

I think that's slightly prejudice towards all the beatmappers. Ranked beatmaps only show that they seem to get more attention than most people and popularity shouldn't be a major issue when being a BAT.

You seem to think that everyone must have the same skills when it comes to beatmapping in order to make the assumption that more ranked maps = more popular

but there's also this to consider: some people need between 0 and 4 corrections to have a map ranked. Others need between 40 and 50.

Back to the 5+ ranked == bat, this would imply the better you are at beatmapping, the faster you become a bat, and isn't this what we want anyway? Good people? Or at least persistent people.

Well, yeah, but most users pull out suggestions I disagree with, and they are small (clap here, new combo), so that's why I said that. Since I'm trying to get my priority up now, I can't avoid those horrible nazis. I was mainly referring to major issues. ;o

I do want to try it as well, i do have 3 ranked maps and i spend 90% of my free time modding maps, yeah i do check maps in pending/WIP when i dont have any requests, since i love modding more than anything. But yeah i think i got what it takes (from the stuff in the first post anyways) however i'm still improving in all aspects since i strive to being better than what i am learning from my errors on my maps and modding ^^ hope someday i can get to be one so yeah ^^ i'll keep trying

Mod maps in Help and Pending, the way other mods mod them. Take the initiative and show us you can mod.
Create your own maps and get them ranked. Not only does this show that you have dedication to your work, you will also learn valuable tricks and tips which you can pass on when modding.
Chat on IRC (in-game chat). We'll get to know you better, which in turn makes it more likely for us to promote you. A cheerful, bright personality with a good sense of humour helps.
Don't ask, complain or rave on about how good you are, how many posts you've made, or how you've worked so hard and are still not a BAT. If we haven't approached you to become a BAT, you're probably not doing something right, be it modding or behaviourwise (ie. learn to internet). Put yourself in our shoes; would you want to promote someone who keeps whining?

I just want BATs can mod more for mapper.

I'm online on osu almost all the days (except tuesday and thursday, 'cause I'm at my mom's house and there is no internet DX)

and I would like to make faster this thing of approve beatmaps

sometimes I find good beatmaps at pending list.

and one question: is obligatory a beatmap have a background?
'cause at pendind list has some beatmaps without background

Even if a map includes a video/storyboard, it should still include a background for the song selection screen.

If you'd like to strive to become a BAT, then (as others have said) mod maps in pending/help like other experienced modders/BAT do, and perhaps one day a dream will become a reality. :P

Also, creating your own maps and getting them ranked/approved is essential, as well. P:

Struggling with 4 mapsets to get ranked :o A BAT? Uhm, I dont have a ranked map "yet". I can push myself becoming BAT. BAT, BAT.... now I need a wing :roll:

Would responsibility and equality to all mapppers and not to just to your friends/someone you know included in the rules? It seem these day, I saw like MAT/BAT prioritize friends before touching someone who they didn't even know personally in life or in game
