Yeah the first couple videos I saw were spongebob getting arrested for speeding and selling the zaza.

The future seems bright.

I mean its cool and all but honestly I'm not sure how i feel about it. I feel like creations from AI as a whole, ruin the creative nature of humans. The creativity you get from learning or thinking about things. Using AI as a tool to learn is great, you get the information you want served straight up to you. But using it to do something you cant is kind of just something that i don't like or appreciate.

Anyway heres 1 opinion and 2 takes:

  1. In a creative standpoint like drawing or sculpting, when you learn that kind of skill set, you set yourself apart from the people that can't do it. That's why its called a skill. Not many people are able to do what you can learn to do and that makes it special. Using AI to do it just ruins the whole craft of it.
  2. Due to the way AI is being developed, Its slowing growing more and more conscious and its happening too fast. While it might seem like something that wouldn't cause much problem, you have to factor in the fact that what it's being trained on is humans. If humans are anything to go by, then AI will turn out just like us and they will be better than us. They may learn to do the bad things humans can do and we might not be able to stop them.
  3. AI videos could lead to real world lawsuits from the people whom videos are being generated of. Which isn't really great for something of which you barely put any effort into (putting in a prompt). In the future this might become a bigger problem than we think as of now.

I found this very interesting but I funnily enough I share almost opposite opinions to yours. Here are my "counter-arguments":

This is true, but it's not bad and it has been happening for centuries, Art had a major shift once photography was invented as there was no real point to drawing what can be captured by a camera. During the industrial revolution a lot of skill sets also became worthless (from a economic standpoint) since machine could automate the process for us (Sewing shoes for example). This isn't something inherently bad it might actually be good at the end of the day. Most 1st world countries suffer from a overly educated population where a lot of people are over-qualified for their jobs, AI might help reduce the need for these more simple jobs and create jobs which require a higher level of education.

Current AI is just a tool at the end of the day, It itself cannot be malicious only the people who use it. Furthermore current AI architecture (Transformers) are not capable of sentience, they are just a advanced statistical model which outputs whatever word is most probable to come next in a sentence. It doesn't have the capability to become sentient and display free-will. So AI cannot be evil as of rn.

Yes in the future this might be an issue, but as of now AI generated videos leave artifacts in videos that can be detected by deterministic software very easily. So I wouldn't be concerned that AI would be used for falsifying evidence in court just yet, although I am concerned with the defamation that AI videos can cause.

But pictures are much different from art, no? What was captured with taking a photo existed there. There was no question of fantasy as every picture that's ever taken is a reflection of reality. The major thing about art is that it can go beyond reality. Beyond what can be reality and instead dive into what the human imagination is really capable of. I imagine that's why art is here to stay even after the invention of cameras. You may be right from an economical stand point as AI might make it cheaper to do what you would've had to pay someone to do otherwise but I'm not talking about economics here. Art is something to appreciate, Clothes are something to be worn and appreciated. Kind of a different thing here.

Honestly, I think current copyrights law (at least in the developed west) are stupid. Like, you can't even play some songs in your own shop because of possible copyright infringement apparently.

Yes, LLM's are advanced statistical models, but AGI would be fundamentally different from LLM's. an AGI architecture would be significantly different than LLM. I think that we might see AGI in our life times tbh, maybe 50-60 years from now... honestly the day we fully figure out how human brain works is the day we become capable of making AGI, although its possible we stumble upon it before hand.

other possibility is that neuromorphic computing becomes advanced enough to the point we can simulate a whole human brain.

Ymir wrote:

Imo most art now a days comes from the meaning and effort behind the painting (or whatever medium art is conveyed through). Some art institutions say AI is incapable of making Art because it lacks "the human experience" or the soul to create art

I really don't think AGI is happening, I think it's just orders of maginute above in complexity compared to what we have, we don't have enough understanding of the world and how intelligence works to really be able to replicate it

Might be decades or even centuries before we see something like this but I feel like the push for stronger and more powerful AI is gonna lead to a developed AGI at some point. Maybe not in our lifetime but in the future.

After seeing the shit's thats going on I am more inclined to believe emulated AGI. Kinda similar to ants doing simple tasks but together perform something way more complex. In a similar manner the AIs companies will implement will start mindlessly collaborating in secret like manipulating information online to cause events irl toward some kind of goal. Probably pushing for more data centers, pushing to build more power stations, etc. You know, mindless securing basic survival. Not necessarily taking people over or causing terminator horrors directly. More like indirectly via resource shortages and policy changes.

This theory is based on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9HwA5IR-sg

Artificial Intelligence. We saw it in movies, video games, newspaper articles. But now we have the technology to make that true. AI. Beings which are not human, beings which don't have a body. Trained by humans. At the current state, AI is going solid in the market. AI video generation has become very very good. Produced at such high quality by someone who isn't real -- but is virtual -- living on the internet.

Grok AI for instance can produce remarkable quality videos, which are very short i.e., just a few seconds. But I have to say that sora is in the lead right now when it comes to top-notch quality AI video generation.

interesting read, apparently users are generating more than they had anticipated, using a lot of resources, and they have no real way to make profitable since advertisers are not going to advertise on a platform filled with copyright violations, they also say they're not sure if people would pay to use the service, as in pay for tokens to generate.

I predict that there wont be enough resources in the future to support free use like this and they'll probably put it behind a paywall and yeah
