you were this close to building something cool, but after the fourth time of the same loop it just became boring.

but maybe I'm being unfair? it feels like you made this for a game of sort, if that was the point, good. its good soundtrack, very introspective. As pure music, I would give it a 5/10.

Nothing wrong with it just that people used it 10-20 years ago, not so much today.

People are using YouTube for 19+ years at this point.

And while it is true that NG was more popular back then, it's still going well (just checked, NG has 6900+ (nice) users online as I'm typing this).

i think i'd have to sympathize with poly there

the specific reasons from me would be that while the drums are interesting and playful, they aren't accompanied by very much and are far more present than anything else, with only two or three minimalist melodic instruments underneath them. as a result, there are only really two things to like about the song-- the drums, and the mood given by the singular unchanging melody/harmony throughout the entire song

those drums experience a very limited amount of change overall, and nothing really happens until around three minutes into the song... these drums only had five generally discernable sections/patterns (0:00, 1:58, 2:31, 3:06, 5:04) and basically only two actually distinct phases divided nearly into "everything before 3:06" and "everything after 3:06"

and the melodies change even less than the drums do-- there are only really two vaguely distinct melodic phases, and that's almost exclusively thanks to whether the plucky saw synth is present or absent from the song, because the harmony doesn't notably change a single time

in other words, the pacing of this song structure may need to change more frequently (and maybe 30 or 60 seconds sooner, saving one or two minutes from the song) and more meaningfully/significantly, with different instruments and textures (enough for these different sections to grow into something new) in order to remain interesting. you might be able to quicken the pace by taking the drums (and the new plucky saw synths) from 2:31 and introducing them at 1:58, so that the section starting at 3:06 is introduced at 2:31 instead. in the meanwhile, you can play with different harmonies and melodies somewhere in-between, or alternatively you could use different kinds of soft synthesizers and foley/samples that either replace or complement that singular original harmony/melody

...

although the critique is quite stern, i personally love a lot about the song :) it's actually very similar to some of the music i like. the length and slow pace actually is wonderful if you're like me and you love music that sounds like it's vegetating together with you as you rot in bed, because this song is exactly that. it evokes the image of a glacier. there's nothing there but the sweet harmony of depression and a crunchy percussive drumloop that fills the space and suffocates my thoughts, bringing me a taste of oblivion

but if it's not for that purpose, then the song functions more like background music for me

with that being said, i think this is somewhere between ~7 and ~8 for me, with 8.10 being the highest i'm willing to give to it right now (the lowest score i could give to this would maybe be 7.40, it's reasonably good already)

ngl i literally thought since when did sametdze get so intelligent?

jokes aside, im quite impressed on how you critizized the song in an understandable way. even though i dont really care about the quality, i still like the drums lel
