actually considered making a youtube video talking about all of them since I don't think many people at all has done this, but it will be WAYYYYYYYYYYY too long and it would require a shitload of work and idk if I want to invest that much time

I think they were mroe asking about the placement of one piece, being the 4th highest rated manga in this website, but your information, I got to volume 50 before dropping it

also, to answer reyalp, I actually made a little list of the biggest biases influencing the scores a while back

Myanimelist scores are biased by nature. There is no such thing as an "objective" way to rate art, so external factors can alter the note, these are some of the biggest ones i've realized in my current 3 years of using this website.

1- Length: Long mangas usually have higher scores than shorter mangas, shorter mangas are more accessible, so more people with more varied tastes end up reading it, which leads to overall lower scores, also, point 8 applies to here too. Longer mangas are more likely to develop fandoms too.

2- Demographic: Different demographics rate things differently, the standards of someone who has read 200 mangas and the standards of someone who has just started are different, what a shounen fan considers peak vs what an avant garde fan considers peak are different.

3- Fandom: Series with fandom are usually higher rated, if you're involved in a community,
seeing theories, fanart, talking to your friends about the thing you just read, you're going to end up enjoying that work more, which translates to higher scores

4- Adaptations: If a manga has an adaptation that doesn't cover the entire manga, it's likely that people who has just watched the anime and want to see how a story continues picks up the manga from where the anime left off, and they're likely to rate things based on how good the adaptation was

5- Author: If the author has done another, better rated manga, it's likely that fans of that manga will look at their previous work, rating them higher just because they already have a favorable bias of the author.

6- Hype: Works with a lot of hype often have higher scores

7- Bots/review bombing: Not all of the ratings are fair, there are some bad actors in this website.

8- Sequel bias: If it's a manga with multiple parts, people are more likely to rate the later parts higher, because if you didn't enjoy the first part, you're less likely to read the next ones, leading to only people who enjoyed the first parts rating the later parts.


so yeah, don't take the scores at face value, scores are still a great way to kinda guess of what quality a certain work is going to be, but it's important to take all of that (and more!) into consideration

but yeah, one piece has been in the game for quite a long while now like you said, building hardcore fans along the way

a lot of them are my irl friends too, and they do say that the later chapters and even the more recent ones are really good and prob deserving that high score
(though i dont think it would still be a 9 rating in my books, unless its hiding something in the later chapters that blows me away)
