mm, i suppose they're different things though, in their respective functional contexts
either way, lurking is more effective for keeping your distance and not finding yourself in a position of defending yourself and therefore clinging to an opinion or reinforcing a perspective about other people through their responses to you. alternatively, you'd avoid the position of offensively poking at other people and snipping at their ego from your own dislike of something about them or what they said, or some other form of derision/pity

You don't need to defend until the end of times and one can always choose to phrase and word their opinion in a way that is respectful. It is a solution, I agree, but so is realizing that online discussions aren't exactly that serious to begin with most of the time, so let some things slide. i have been adding reddit at the end of my internet searches lately and that has greatly increased my odds of success when trying to find stuff/getting my questions answered. i have no idea what's going on with search engines these days but most of them are absolute dogshit compared to 10-15 years ago
