O(1) means that finding a girlfriend takes the same amount of time that a function f taking one parameter x seconds.
However, f is not explicitly given and if f = O(1) it means that f is a constant function (x doesn't matter), aka you can replace f by a number, but which one is not told. So it may mean that what's hidden by the "O(1)" may be a very large number...
