This will be a monthly thread I do, going over the very best OT has to offer. I have gone through every thread created in the month of November in 2023 (UTC+11) in meticulous detail, and have selected 10 of the most succulent threads for your viewing pleasure.
Once you have experienced each thread, cast your vote in the poll above. It will last 3 days, and at the end, the thread with the most votes will be crowned the Shitpost of the Month.
I have limited the nominated threads to one per user, to increase the variety of threads on offer. There were many users with multiple nomination worthy threads, but in those case I have selected the best of the best.
I'd also highly suggest visiting the threads for yourself and reading the replies, as the engagement the thread brings is just as important as the original post itself.
The threads below are in chronological order.
Please by Jun Maeda is a certified classic. Jun manages to pull off the tension and release of the title brilliantly, the "Please" being a cry for help, a cry for action, a cry to click this thread to hear out what Jun has the say, while being vague enough to be about anything. Then you click on the thread, and your curiosity is answered in the most personal way possible, right in your kokoro, because you, a stinky osu player, have not taken a shower in the last 3 days. The brilliance of this thread is reflected in it's postcount, 124 being more than double the the thread with the second most replies, showing how engaging this thread is, with everyone and their mother weighing in, a thread with universal appeal. A truly necessary announcement for all of OT to hear.
A thread that masterfully breaks the mold, combining the classic clickbait title --> punchline format with a birthday thread, completely on accident. A two part combo. The first part is a striking commentary on the state of the Rent-a-Girlfriend manga, the chapter number of 304 being a mind numbingly large number, showcasing the manga's unending tendency to drag on. And the punchline, "she's on her period", is reflective of the crux of the chapter itself, with it's absurdity and shittiness highlighting the manga's own absurdity and shittiness. And yet, what truly elevates this thread to the next level was that it was posted on DM FOR MUTUAL's birthday, the horror of this realisation being acutely felt through his response. The biting contrast and the reversal of expectations between the wholesome, special feeling coming from most birthday threads compared to this one is what truly got it selected as a nomination. Yes I did just write all of that about my own thread.
Reyalp51 was a powerhouse this month, in fact while I was gathering threads I was going to nominate another thread, but I switched to this thread at the last second, because I was finally able to recognise it's true brilliance. The thread consists of a single youtube video, making it the lowest effort thread of them all, the shittiness being mostly carried by someone else's work, with Reyalp's only true contribution to the shittiness being their profound lack of effort. This is a thread that you have to visit to experience fully, I highly encourage that all of you click on the link and watch the video yourselves. However, what's truly special about this thread is it's postcount, 3. This thread managed to accrue a total of 3 posts before being locked. In fact, it only spent slightly longer than an hour not being locked, up there with some of the greatest lock speedruns of all time. If that itself doesn't show the brilliance of the thread, I don't know what can.
Here we encounter another type of thread, the braindead repetition thread. These are not commonly made, as many factors must line up to make one successful. However, Zain pulls it off masterfully, the three characters of the post being so powerful that it warps the minds of all it's readers into a zombielike state, vunerable to all of Zain's whims and fancies. And this is something they take advantage of, with their reply "ok stfu", a direct attack to the reader's soul, who had at that point given that soul up to the original post. A reversal nobody could see coming which keeps you on your toes. After waffling on a bit, the thread manages to return full cycle to "yea", with Zain at the helm, never losing control. A conclusion rivalling that of whatever anime you think has the best ending. And the cherry on top? A lock. Why the lock? No idea. Amazing.
I have no idea what is happening in this thread. What does the title "C" mean? What about the text? What is the purpose of the emojis? What is Yyotta trying to say to us through creating this thread? This is what makes "C" such a compelling thread. It's seemingly random and arbitrary elements have enough coherence that you can recognise that there is meaning behind the madness, but cannot recognise what that meaning actually is. Or perhaps there is no meaning, and the thread was created during a mental episode, we can never know. Another thing notable about this thread is it's engagement, with 55 total posts. Why so much engagement for a nonsensical thread? Well, the title "C" sparked an in depth conversation about the programming language of the same name, a testament to this thread's ability to create meaning out of seemingly nothing.
As we reach the halfway point of our journey we encounter the highest effort shitpost thread this month has to offer. In fact, whether this is a shitpost or not is highly debatable, as it actually intends to make a meaningful argument and spark meaningful discussion, it's just that in my opinion, the mundanity and the silliness of the subject of discussion being so disproportional with the effort and presentation of the thread qualifies it in my books. Looking beyond the discussion of whether this thread is a shitpost or not and evaluating the thread through it's own merits, we find a thought provoking, educational and engaging thread which is a joy to read. No doubt many readers on this day were educated about what is a taco and what is not, a subject that would have likely never crossed their mind otherwise.
No Shitpost of the Month offering would be complete without Scyla. Possibly the purest embodiment of a shitpost and the most prolific shitposter OT has seen, Scyla has managed to cement himself amongst the greatest to have ever graced this website. His profile postcount is a shitpost for god's sake. It is a shame that his output has been lessened in recent months, we may be nearing the twilight of his prime, too late to revel in his pure excellence with past Shitposts of the Months because they never existed. Enough on Scyla though, lets take a look at this thread. A clever double entendre, the title referring to not only the massive bahonkers on display, but also the cow, resulting in a pun so powerful and stupid that you can't help but roll your eyes. And like Reyalp's thread, Scyla's thread was able to make quick work of achieving the ultimate status of being locked. A perfect example of "why tf would you post this". This is also the only thread heavily featuring a sexualised female drawn in the typical style of a Japanese cartoon, Scyla knows how to appeal to his degenerate audience.
A thread which is stimulating to not only visually and literarily but audially as well, this is a thread that everyone must experience at least once in their lives. The gifs and the music (which can only be experienced by clicking the link) are overwhelming to the senses, I can feel myself on the verge of sensory overload. Each individual image and gif can be stared at for hours on end, the captivating face of the white man being impossible to pull your eyes away from, each one adding to the thread's shittiness. Not only that, but I believe that there may be deeper meaning or context to the contents to this thread, which I am unfortunately not privy too, but believe that it would enhance the sensory experience to orgasmic levels. A masterclass in modern absurdist humour, this thread gives an endless amount of joy to whoever is fortunate enough to stumble across it in the depths of the osu website.
I'm going to say it, this month has been the month of Marco. In fact, the main reason that I enacted the one thread per user rule was to give us scrubs a fighting chance in what was all along Marco's world. Thread after thread, banger after banger, Marco never failed to delight, with the thread I'm presenting to you being the pinnacle of his achievements. What immediately stands out about this thread is the title. A chaotic, attention grabbing title with barely any relevance to the contents of the post, but perfect nonetheless, calling back to all of Marco's previous posts highlighting his worrying obsession with this enigmatic character. Not only that, but the title highlights Marco's insanity, an insanity which is carried over into and compounded upon in the medicine withdrawal and sleep deprovision induced rant, a rant which explores Marco's deepest desires, and reveals his true character. I'm honestly not sure what exactly Marco is talking about with the "yellow tag", but I hope with my sincerest being that Marco is able to achieve what he has been desiring and working towards for so long, and finally be able to rest. He deserves it.
And for our final stop, Jarcrafted blesses us with a fantastic roleplaying thread, where he enacts the titular Smoking Caterpillar, a staple of Jarcrafted's work, contracting lung cancer because of all the smoking the caterpillar has done. The most heartwrenching of all of the threads today, you can really feel Super Fucking Awesome Smoking Caterpillar's sorrow and regret, and the love that the users of OT have for him. Unlike most of the other threads which were one and dones, Jarcrafted actively engages with the posters in this thread, responding to their outpouring of support. In fact, since this thread is so fresh, the story is continuing to evolve, so if you wanted to you could join in as well. Not only that but this thread serves an important societal purpose, discouraging it's readers from smoking so they can avoid it's dangers and not end up like Super Fucking Awesome Smoking Caterpillar. We all hope Super Fucking Awesome Smoking Caterpillar all the best, and that his treatment goes well so we may continue to bask in his glory and learn his wisdom.
