when undertale came out, the internet EXPLODED, I was 10yo at the time, and while at first I kinda avoided it because I heard it was cringe and for losers, after a while I folded, and did something I would NEVER do nowadays, and that is, watch a playthrough of the game BEFORE playing it, which I enjoyed. I don't know how much of me enjoying those videos came from the game itself or the youtuber playing it
At that point I wasn't too keen on pirating stuff, I didn't have the money, and unlike how I am now, instead of playing a variety of video games, I just had 2-3 specific videogames I just liked to spend all of my time on. So yeah, I never actually played undertale
thing is, time passes, I was like 12, and I start meeting people who actually HAD played undertale, so in order to more easily fit in, I did play undertale (I didn't want to be a fan of the game without having played in, which I was up to that point), I did a pacifist walkthrough, (not true pacifist tho) and I think I enjoyed my time with it, A few years later, I started a genocide run but I never finished it, I stopped playing it around the core part
few extra years passes, I think I was 13, my brain was starting to develop more, it was halloween, I was having a sleepover with a friend of mine, and then, randomly, deltarune chapter 1 releases, up to that point I felt a little bit of remorse for not having really been able to experience as much joy from playing undertale as I had done up to that point, so I just start playing it completely blind with my friend. I ended up beating the game in 2 days.
I enjoyed it WAY MORE than when I played undertale or even watched it, since I actually got to experience it myself. At that moment I didn't know what exactly made deltarune so good, but when chapter 2 released, and SPECIALLY when I played everhood I got it
When I played everhood, I instantly noticed it was clearly inspired by toby fox, and that was, the dialogue. The way toby fox writes dialogue is actually very different to how other devs write it. Instead of imitating the dialogue from a book or a movie (which I want to clarify, is VERY different to IRL speech), it imitates the way people talk over the internet, some things not being capitalized, the inconsistent speed at which some dialogues are shown on screen, the type of comedy, in deltarune chapter 2 the queen is literally the representation of the internet
this is not the first time it has been done, but I think toby fox IS the person to actually popularize it, I have also seen it in some itch.io games that I won't talk about here.
Undertales entire selling point was that you could spare enemies, but I would honestly argue that the cast of characters is what carries toby fox as a developer
But what really makes me enjoy it, is just my life experiences. It's the joy of seeing something you liked 8 years ago evolve and branch out, whenever I see a game be inspired by undertale I just feel happy, each toby fox releases correlates to a different step of my life, to a different frame of mind, all of that has made undertale grow on me, I enjoy it way more now than I did when I actually played it.
This game is an S tier, but yeah, heavy bias.

if you want another novel rec that's waaaaay easier to read, check out the book thief by markus zusakweird recI'm not expecting you to read this because it's related to religion but if you're interested, check out song of songs (aka song of solomon) from the bible, it's unique within the bible for being as... horny as it is. Tagalog literature (originally written in English) also does the same thing, and imo it's a really effective way of getting me more immersed and connected to the (Filipino) setting (which is distinct from using Tagalog words interlaced in dialogue, which just tells me that the characters are Filipino)

Girls und Panzer
watched both the anime and the follow up movie, it was mid.
Girls und Panzer is a slice of life that tries to bait war thunder players by having cool and manly and important shit like drive tanks instead of dumb activities for little girls such as camping or sailing small boats as turistic guides

currently, it's a combination of two factors, my mindset (which honestly I think it's the most important part), and the fact that i'm on a gap year and I have a lot of free time, but again, I don't put that much time in a row to anything, so it's mostly mindsetYmir wrote:
Sorry if you've already answered this but how are you doing all this? Especially books, they take me some time to finish. Do you have some secret schedule because you've burnt through more media in 3 months than I have my entire life.
I don't restrain myself, I burn myself out if I do stuff like that, if anything, I do multiple 45 minute sessions in a day, but for me, putting like 7 hours in a row into something is impossible, my maximum is like 2-3 hours, but i'm most comfortable with 45 minutesDementedduck wrote:
I could never read just 45 mins a day dam ;-;
Whenever i read smthn i normally either stop when i finish the book (normally in like 3-7 hours depending on length) or i stop likeee halfway through
How do u restrain urself like that jeez ;-;
will do, but I will not start right away, there is some other stuff I want to read first so that may be in the back-burner for a whileDementedduck wrote:
Ahh that makes sense
Speaking of books do one of the bartimaeus trilogy from jonathan stroud (ideally the first one)
Coss i like how they switch perspective and have little thoughts at the bottom and all that
I swear Three is not in the vocabulary of anything Valve...Patatitta wrote:
update: beaten half-life 1 but since I liked it I will play half-life 2, and whenever I finish that I may consider playing half-life 3.

holy moly I had completely forgotten about that bartimaeus trilogy lmao, I know I read at least one of those books when I was a teen. seem to recall something about magical running boots. that was the kind of young adult fantasy that you'd find for sale at a scholastic book fair, maybe on the same shelf next to captain underpants
