An unofficial survey of OT

Can't be assed to do a professional fancy format again, please stick with me through the plaintext.

Anyways, I've been thinking a lot about denizenship as of late. Specifically, what denizenship actually means in the context of OT. Most people generally agree it should be tied to some form of contribution, whether it be simply posting x amount of times for y long or something more detailed, like something notable that moves the lore of OT further along. Some see it as something to be strived for, an ultimate goal that signifies that you've made it on OT, while some have come to reject it entirely. Some feel as if the system is way too strict and stifles any new activity that could appear in Off Topic, while others feel as if it isn't nearly strict enough.

It's become very clear to me that there's a slowly growing generational gap in how denizenship is perceived by denizens and dwellers alike, and that somewhat worries me. After all, how can you change rules about something when neither side is working with the same starting framework? I feel as if it's in my best interest to gain a more nuanced understanding of how others (particularly newfags, though this survey is by no means exclusive to them) see denizenship and what they want out of it.

Let's get some things clear though. This is entirely my idea. This will likely have no bearing on how the rest of the OT!Government (or at least the few that actively participate online) feel. Even if the results of this survey all lean in a single direction, that is not a guarantee that any substantial changes to the denizenship system will be made during the rest of my presidency. This is simply a tool to gauge the public opinion. I don't say all of this to be discouraging, I just don't want people to get their hopes up.

There are only a few guidelines regarding the survey itself. All the answers are textboxes, so feel free to write as little or as much as you want. Answering all the questions is mandatory, since I'd like to have complete data to pull from. For now, I will be allowing responders to not use their google accounts to submit an answer out of respect for people's privacy, but this will change if people misuse that privilege to spam shit. Finally, if you discover this thread like, six months from now, don't get mad at me if I don't read your answers, half because I'll probably forget that I made this thread and half because I'll probably be voted out of office by then.

Anyone can answer the survey, regardless of how long they've been on OT or how active they are.

Here is the link to the survey, enjoy.

I unironically feel like the gen 8 denizens mostly all hate us and just wanna keep gen 9 at an extremely high requirement as a way of saying fuck you to us.

Can't say you're wrong, but I will say that gen 8 denizens experienced that from gen 7 denizens, and gen 7 denizens experienced that from gen 6, and etc etc. It's a rite of passage.

Denizenship has become this exclusive club that only the "coolest" people can be in. And the more people become denizens, the more desperate olderfags are to keep denizenship super exclusive.

I grew to not care about my denizenship, and instead expanded my thought process to include newfags in my general conquest of OT.

Regardless, pretty good survey with good intentions.

Eh that is nothing compared to 4th gen vs 3rd gen. It was legit hatred. 4th gen was the first gen to take shitposting multitude levels too far. 3rd gen would continue to shit talk about 4th and 5th gen in ITT2 thread for a while.

Anyway, here is a question of my own I'd like all of you to answer:
Why do you think I created the "ATTENTION Newfags, Midfags, Oldfags, and Otherfags!!!" thread?

Adding this to part 2, since I feel like people probably won't answer it here

Sorry, I felt like I exaggerated a bit with the whole "hate us" part, I meant it as I feel like we are distanced away from current denizens and I don't really mean that post even with the "way of saying fuck you to us" I was just in a different headspace at the time when I wrote that. Once again, sorry.

Oh Man I remember when gen 8 went through the same exact thought process a year and a half ago

Gen 6 was practically all gone by the time I got here

I mostly see the same handful of people, which makes sense.

what even sparked all of this, who was the edge case that made the system need to be redisigned?, why now?

Don't think it was anyone in particular, just that basically everyone thinks the current system isn't good/could be improved and there have been arguments about that. There's currently one in the ATTENTION thread

haven't stepped in for some time, and i've long forgotten the timeline of events, but

i wonder how we'd compare each state of the relationship of the denizenship concept with OT throughout time, with consideration for the possibility that what we're attempting to amend here might at some point become only more damaged through potential overconvolution. by that, i mean that it might've been possible something found near the birth of OT!government or the near the adoption of OT!denizenship may have formed an unstable foundation that inherently causes these fault lines of conflict to form despite whatever we revise on top of it.

it's a little hard to entertain, since i do doubt that anything we've done in the era following that OT!depression arc onward had any particularly unique bearing on what type of conflict we'd have, but i guess i have some cold-take theories on the nature of this as i mumble to myself.

for example, a system of user-classification will fundamentally birth the socially recognized & thenceforth politically justified potential for disparity as a result of conflict between each user class on an axis of influence. naturally, that type of conflict will manifest in the nature of what qualifies a person for a higher-grade class of influence/distinction/prestige, the nature of what's considered disproportionate and unfair as a result of class disparity, and whatever other elements of the user dynamic are introduced as a result of this status of user versus government (parliament + president), non-denizen versus denizen, which are often inevitable from our interest in justifying the collective recognition of a user's socially-relevant status within OT with an "archetype" of sorts that is no longer just informally social, but also formally political.

of course, much of this is inevitable, and it seems we've weighed the progression of each era after the OT!depression to be preferable to the alternative, which may encourage justification of some essential elements of our system even further. then there's a question of whether there's a point at which we've over-complicated or magnified the dynamic beyond necessity. initially, it likely was more of a venture to attempting the establishment of some stable ideal of how we'd like to interact with OT on the basis of vertically-scaled post value (low-quality versus high-quality) with horizontally-scaled post type (shitpost versus "quality" post), and how effectively we integrate that in accord with our actual enjoyment of the forum space.

things seem a little more tricky now. i'm not sure where we're going with OT!government or OT!denizenship, and i've been absent for the majority of the time to recognize where our relationship with posting has gone. but the subforum still seems interesting, and still seems to have fun potential from where i stand. so, i don't know yet.

i wonder what's next.

I'm planning to release a post filled with a semi-detailed analysis of all the surveys. Because of my schedule though, that might not be until 2023.
