Hey guys! I know that there have been a few of these threads in the past, but I wanted to create a modern and standardized typing test thread.

Go over to https://monkeytype.com/ and do a 60-second test with no punctuation or numbers and post the screenshot. You can edit the test parameters at the top right of the website.

I'm pumped for my new hotswap keyboard kit. I've got all of my switches ready.
Sadly, my old linear broke.

I'm surprised you could actually have a decent typing speed on a touch screen.

Those things are fucking awful.

how the hell did you get that to work for your phone, it doesn't work on my Samsung for some reason

zoomers type more on their phones than they do on a keyboard. I feel like an old fart seeing how fast they can type on their phones.
keremaru
In my defense, I'm more used to typing words that I use more frequently.

I can't write in English... I have an azerty keyboard wich results in being slow af + doing errors on words containing a lot of letters we don't use much in french... But I'm still above some people *hehehe*
Also it feels weird not being able to see when you type the wrong letter in the middle of a word.
I'm typing on laptop btw. Buy me a mechanical keyboard and I'll go BRRRR.
And no, I'm not searching excuses for being bad at typing. 🙄🤭

Anyway I think this survey is a good idea, it allows us to FLEX our typing skills.

Ah yes, those Frenchman and their AZERTY layout.

German's QWERTZ layout is already pretty weird but the French really outdid them.

Another weird layout is probably the Japanese's or JIS, but it's usually only for the bottom row and the rest of the keyboard is usually pretty normal.
But the space bar is ridiculously small though. I never can get used to it. Though tbf I heard you rarely uses the spacebar while typing in Japanese anyways.

From personal experience, the only time I think you'd use the spacebar in Japanese is if you're a Westie (like me) and you want to type in the one, the only, the mythical:
FULL-WIDTH ALPHANUMERIC.(accessible on Microsoft IME by right clicking on your IME options in the bottom right, after hitting [Wndws + Spcbr]!)
But then again, who'd want to do that? KEKW

I thought that I might join the game aswell. If you need proof or anything like that I can provide a video of me typing.

However there is one issue I find in here. Typing on time is good. but it doesn't really calculate your typing speed accurately. So in case you would like to make this "game" more accurate, I would suggest changing the "rules" a little bit.

It's not really that fast to be honest. I know a lot of people with 180-200 wpm average speed. If you type a lot everyday you will become faster and faster, that's all about it.

I think we're a little too deep to change the ruleset now, but for future reference, what would you suggest for a better ruleset?

From my own experience I'd suggest following:
1. Use CPM (Characters per minute) instead of WPM (words per minute). CPM measurement is way more accurate because words can be very short (~3 letters) or very long (7+ letters). Thus with enough luck your result can be really boosted if you had a lot of short words. In most cases WPM and CPM have a "linear" connection, but I still find this method more accurate.

2. Instead of typing random words on time, I find it way better to test and try typing a quote (A normal text). The thing is, here it comes to the preference. I myself find it much better than typing random words on time.
(In the end the result will be the same. Fast people will be faster than others, meanwhile slow people will be slower. It's just that instead of having, let's say 130wpm you might have for example 110wpm)
I know people that think the same way. But truth be told I would have to talk to others to confirm that.

Nothing else that cross my mind right now, but if there will be anything else I will let you know.
Hoshimegu Mio
I can't really type random words that fast. It is way slower than how I usually type (on PC).

Speed: 59 wpm

BTW my typing speed for English is one of the fastest in my class somehow.
