+ pata v poly, and a mixture of gmt moderation woes and mild-but-significant cults of personality centered on current-day internal off-topic politics! threads stirring with awkwardly serious telanovela antagonism between major modern political figures, and their distinct opposing philosophies of governance...
+ a history of gradual institutional reforms to balance the scales of power between moderators and governed denizens while qualifying denizenship further and preserving/updating off-topic customs...
+ a mostly disorganized culture of ambivalent users with variably contrasting niches of interest, perhaps bound together only by collective boredom and entertainment shared with specific acquaintanceships and friendships...
+ roleplay seems to be stuffed in with the antiques, appreciated in the memories and dreams of some but comfortably obsolete to many. i doubt these denizens and dwellers would force the issue at this point
+ third-way candidates soon arise on a whim or by pointed opposition, some are just bored, maybe particularly by presidency or government as institutions in themselves, and run partly to halfheartedly make a point
+ times have changed, denizens and dwellers have changed, politics have changed. so, may the willing live well in the present :)
i intend to run for president!
i don't intend on getting too deep into the weeds for any reason other my own curiosity and interest and i don't intend to force roleplay or government politics into much of any public all-encompassing user-facing service/practice beyond what is largely customary for the people who value it (presidency, denizenship, archived libraries), and while i do believe there is a role to be had in serving as more of an event host for whatever y'all think would be fun, it will probably be more of an optional free sample of things to do or participate in with each other in a social space while you each make your own threads about your interests and your awful awful kinks x')
but for those worried about moderation and user behavior, i also don't intend to be oblivious to extremes in interpersonal abuse or moral bankruptcy or in exercises of power, nor do i intend to allow the neglect of general user experience. for a variety of reasons exemplified through our messy communal history, there ought to be some form of self-preservation in anticipation of distinct threats to the health of our community's users and activities
to this end, i would be responsive to more specific negotiation with moderator teams to root out what the hell went wrong and whether it's more personal or interpersonal rather than systemic, in order to keep these tensions out of the way of any users who may be exhausted by this. if y'like to spectate user or government or moderator drama, there may be correspondence-based events of varied regularity which could be supervised by myself and/or a rotating balance of notable community members depending on the need and circumstance. these would be hosted for the express purpose of hashing out conflict in specific matters, whether in governance or in interpersonal conflicts that involved parties may informally consent to publicizing
rough ideas, really, but i imagine the sentiment of "serve a mixture of spaces/events according to a balance of general community interests and faction-based interests" has been illustrated by now. many suggestions i could make are not-so-much a kind of promise when the community is ever-changing and sometimes self-contradictory. but i largely seek to be some mixture of adaptively open-minded and generally concerned. i would work with whatever parliament i get but i am not interested in letting public decisions be made in a bubble
we are ultimately wandering a corner of a website populated by all sorts of fellow weirdo netizens that variably give any extent of care or concern from "all-in" to "fuck-all" (for some, quite literally), whether they prefer to be on their own or get cliquey, looking on at interesting threads and sating their boredom and curiosity. it would be nice to give them a little bit of something they want to eat
oh yes and im the "arts and culture" candidate in this because i like those things lol <3
i would rather like to avoid fucking up a place where a good variety of people dwell, whether they intend to leave or not. if they do, i hope whatever nearby future spent here would provide both parts peace and entertainment :)
...and if presidency and governance doesn't suit that end, then... we will see what becomes of it, i suppose. let go of what we don't need, right? i'd like to think that kind of thing would be up to you, since you all end up seeing it everywhere across your threads
i was the first president, and maybe i would be the last. but i'm getting ahead of myself. point to what you think you will enjoy or benefit from, pick it out, and have fun~
