No. They realized that they can get a lot of info about users and then sell that data to ad agencies. Alongside that, they added straight up ads in Windows. Open up Edge and the new tabs will show all sorts of BS. Search up something in Windows 10/11 and you will likely get served ads. A modem is a device that changes from one medium to another, like from fiber optic cable to copper wires, so I assume you got a wired connection going in to your computer.
