They certainly have their hardware at a really high price, but at least for creative people and developers, a Mac is an option. I disagree with you saying that using Linux require to be in very specific community and spend too much time on it to even use it. You don't have to be deep in a commuinity to know the advantage of not having ads on your system, not having telemetry and having your sysyem not bloated to a point your PC lag (for a personnal case, I was running LMMS + Firefox + Discord on my laptop with 16 GB of RAM and got lag).

Also Linux is getting more and more user friendly these last year, you have distros like Ubuntu and Mint which are new easy to use even for a newcommer. Of course you have to learn some things, like how you learnt to use windows at first, but those distros doesn't require to spend 4 hours on a terminal to make it work. And Windows is getting shit too
Again, this is a concept of perspective, for us, that we're DEEP onto the internet, we don't see linux as something that niche, but for your classmate in high school that just play football 24/7, it is, and we, as nerds that know computer stuff, are a minority. While the advantages of linux are going to be there regardless of what you do, if you notice closely, I said most people may not CARE about the advantages. Some people are just used to lag and doesn't really do anything to change it, some people doesn't really care about bloat or even use the things you consider bloat, and while "it's getting easier for a newcomer", it's still steps behind windows, even more when you start considering app compability and learning how to use the alternatives to the software you cant use and etc
I 100% agree with Patatitta. Most people don't care and I don't think trying to convert such people is a good use of time. This ease of use helps the newcomer interested in trying out Linux and long term users. Over time, you just don't care about ricing and using the most based shit ever. You just want something that is fast and works out of the box.

Take a note of every app you use on your computer and check to see if it works on Linux. You will have three possible outcomes for your programs:
  1. It does work, natively
  2. It can run under Wine or there is an alternative available
  3. It doesn't run at all and you can't do anything about it
Kernel level anti-cheat games are the most likely offender that will not work under Linux at all. Adobe software is also hit or miss, but somehow, MattKC (yeah, that guy from YouTube) found a way to run Adobe Premiere 2024 under Wine. I'm sure that it can be extended to Photoshop, Illustrator and other Adobe products too if someone spent some time figuring things out. osu! runs really well on Linux. There's a script that lets you install stable with just one simple command.

After this hurdle, you want to choose a distro. There are many options, but don't complicate yourself. Ubuntu (and any of its flavors) work, but the Linux community at large don't really agree with its direction and I don't really agree with it either. You can try it out, if you so choose. If I were you, though, I would go with Linux Mint. It is Ubuntu on steroids, basically, taking every possible measurement to be as complete, tightly integrated and easy to use as Ubuntu originally was.
There is also EndeavourOS, which is based on the infamous Arch Linux. It is easier to install and easier to use than Arch, in my opinion, and its community is really nice and helpful, but jump into this one if you want a bit of a challenge in terms of learning. Ultimately, choose whatever looks the most interesting to you. There are a lot of distros out there as a newbie, you wouldn't know at first what you want, but overtime, you will slowly gravitate towards your preferences.

Whatever distro you end up choosing, remember one thing: this isn't Windows, nor MacOS. It will take a bit to learn Linux's quirks and it will feel a bit discouraging at times. You can make it work as your primary OS, but it will take some time.

I found in a Reddit post that you can run Geometry Dash on Linux (IDK if it was selecting one of the options in the Steam client but ok), and luckily, I don't use Adobe, so I don't have any problems, but I think a few of my apps don't work there, like Microsoft 365 apps, but you can always use the website, although It is a lot more limited, but an app I use (Govee Desktop) doesn't have a Linux neither a macOS version, which means I might have to sacrifice the app.

I do have it on Steam, I bought it a whole year ago.
Then, here we go. To get to the Steam folder, just go to Steam, right click Geometry Dash, highlight Manage and click Browse local files. From there, you should hopefully find your way through.

I did it, relaunched the game, nothing.

Edit: I think I know the reason: The save file had the password in it prior to 2.2, so you could log in with the save file, but on 2.2, the password was removed from the save file, making it impossible to access the account with the save file.

I just chose Kubuntu because when I had like 2 million VMs on my PC, I fell in love with the KDE desktop environment, which reminds me of Windows, the OS I grew up with.

True. If you want to play League of Legends or Valorant or other kernel level anti-cheat games on Linux, you can't do that. We can't change that, sadly.

they did and also they disabled some anti-cheat parts to let wine work

unfortunately due to the cheating vector, the parts were reenabled and now you can't roblox

i also cherry-picked specific uses here where the goal is entertainment and not self-gain

it's still disrupting the original functioning of these games regardless of how good or bad they may be with outside unintended behavior

yes. it might not be at the moment but any time you update it/game, it can become anything imaginable.

there's no control over the game files/installers by anyone that looks out for your interest, if it conflicts with ccp interest.

as far as what os is "better" and the whole consumer os war thing, for the vast majority of people here it doesn't rly matter what you use as long as it provides what you need in an os. listening to music on youtube and jerking off to anime catgirls is functionally the same experience on windows, linux, or mac. playing video games is slightly more of a hassle on linux but it's gotten much better in recent years. trite discussion. using kali linux as your main day to day os is kinda silly, but if it works it works.

I will say tho that windows 11 is so aggressively shitty and awful to work with on the admin/enterprise side of things that I am very strongly considering a career change into something other that system administration. I've administered xp, win7, and win10 environments throughout my career and it's been great, but each migration has brought new challenges and has wrested more and more control from administration. in the past I've agreed with this sentiment that microsoft has been cycling between "good os/bad os," ie xp good, vista bad, win7 good, win8 shit, win10 good, win11 shit, but I really believe this is where the cycle stops. whatever's next will be saas shit and that will be the point where I switch to linux fully, as I unfortunately need to keep one foot in the windows ecosystem for career purposes, at least until I finish my degree. whatever I do next it will be either database administration or devops.

if you work in an office, you will use a windows pc, that's pretty much a given. you're not going to get the tech-illiterate moron working in hr or accounting to know how to use even ubuntu without holding their hand until either you or they quit the company, and outfitting your environment entirely with apple products is prohibitively expensive. use linux for your backend servers, give a macbook to the creative on your team, keep the boomers and zoomers on windows.

I would have to look up successful prompt engineering to see if/how you can get around it, but at teh end of teh day it's a chatbot ai that's being developed for use in sterile corporate environments, it's almost certainly hardcoded to kill itself to avoid anything that could be controversial. our input into the free copilot is used to train copilot for 365 and it's probably a rly bad idea to let the ai you're offering to companies and government agencies be influenced by random ppl online asking it about slurs

Yes. 64-bit CPUs released at the tail end of Windows XP IIRC, so they have some support for them, but not sure how well it is.
