I make this thread for two reasons:
Patatitta's thread, in my eyes, is more or less a cry for OT to change, that came from someone who fundamentally believes saying out loud what they think, on a constant basis, is a sign of a healthy community. The problem with this is two fold.
There's nothing connecting anyone here to each other. The only thing that connects us is the game itself, which is very rarely mentioned here and when it is, it is done by an outsider, almost every time. As a result, the people of this sub-forum have sparse, often conflicting interests. Patatitta believes this would make it so OT would be an argumentative ground, but it isn't. It is overwhelming positive. I believe this is in part due to many of them simply not being interested in fighting tooth and nail for the positions they have. Most people here, myself included at least most of the time, don't want to "fight". They just want to chill and have fun, which also why I believe the thread quality is so low and why threads that actively try to include others in it are so liked. There's more to it, but from this point, I believe it starts to become more and more personal, which isn't important for this context.
A community of individuals doesn't need constant opinion pieces on everything in order to be healthy. Look at the Minecraft community: Most people you would see online that talk about the game are really bitter about it and they actively hate it, part because of Mojang, but part because of the community itself fueled itself negativity after negativity. It's fine to discuss about things, but constantly doing so, especially in a setting like this where there's nothing for you to connect what you're reading with listening with another person. As a result, constantly arguing about stuff has lead to the current internet, a place extremely polarized and hostile. OT is more or less a refugee camp, since it is mostly obscure, with regulars here knowing each other's name, being easy to come in and chat as well. I believe individuals here just want to chill. It's not that they're drama averse, it's that they simply believe it isn't important to constantly be polarizing.
With this, I will end what I said. I apologize, again, for the overreaction to that thread. I hope that this year will be the year I will finally deal with my own bullshit.
- To finally move on from this entire thing, personally;
- To hopefully show to a member here that has decided to cut ties with me after what I did in that thread that I'm actually planning to change in a healthier direction.
