At least from me, you won't get thrown. Why do you use it?

I assume that you just don't really care and this is good enough for your needs.
Karmine
Librewolf, it's Firefox with more security and privacy features out of the box
I don't like sites that track me so they can sell my data and try to display ads I block anyway
It takes less than 10 minutes to set it up and then runs perfectly with basically no downsides
Nuuskamuikkunen
Firefox. (From 2020-)

Fuck you Google, y'ain't telling me what browser to use for youtube.

Formerly used:
Opera (2016-19), Chrome (2012-16), Internet Explorer (2011-12)

I use chrome on my android phone because every other app is from Google itself (to be in the ecosystem I guess), on my PC or Laptop I use Microsoft Edge. On my Personal PC I use opera GX because of its features and visual design.

It is dead, yes. I have never heard of it. While I was little, I mostly used Chromium based browsers, mostly Google Chrome. Over the years, as I've went deeper and I began learning more about computers and the internet and how they're built, I've moved to more privacy orientated options.

Same, the more you know about the internet the less you want to have anything to do with it

And I didn't expect anyone to even know about it, I honestly have no idea how I even found it at the time but I'm somewhat glad I did

New question

What's your true view (even if you haven't tried it) of Linux and its users?

I'm biased here and this is more to see what others from the outside think when they hear Linux. As a result, I'm not going to say anything and just let you all say your actual opinion on it, coming from a place of actually trialing it or seeing memes online. I would appreciate if the replies were somewhat serious.
lostsilver
i heard from a friend that linux is pretty good
so imma assume it is
idk man i use mac os/windows (laptop)
Patatitta
Will say again: i've used linux for a couple years, not as a main driver, but I used it every time for school related stuff and things, and then, i'm studying computer science, so I had to learn how to set up linux servers with only the command line, but that was way later

from my point of view, I didn't really encounter any situation where I enjoyed linux more than windows, while it was still doable, and me that didn't have the biggest knowledge of tech at the time could more ore less use linux for the basic stuff, I did run into more problems than with windows, problems that were harder to google and implement solutions

now, a lot of the applications I enjoy using, like all adoble products or sony vegas just doesn't run on linux, not only that, but I do like enjoying playing old games and stuff that barely runs in windows, and they really aren't any easier to run on linux

now, for windows advantages, yeah, it's free but who cares, everyone has cracked windows anyways. Linux has better privacy as it literally isn't owned by microsoft, however at a certain point I stop caring about privacy. I only really care about privacy when I can get the exact same experience or better, and I just dont find that giving up all the advantages of windows are worth so just that companies dont sell my data

I just don't really see any advantages to really using linux unless you're heavy into customization, you're a software developer or you're super hardcore about privacy
Corne2Plum3
I really like Linux because it provide a free alternative OS which can do the work (don't forget you pay 150 f*cking bucks for a OS). I really feel like Windows is getting worse as corpos are getting more and more greedy. Now on Windows 11 you have advertisements, telemetry, bloatware and spyware, to get in the final a mediocre OS.

Linux doesn't have ads and all of that shit, and it's free. You can do whatever you want, including doing shit with your OS without anything blocking you. It's way more customizable, and you have the choice to use whatever you want, you can uninstall everything, and you can change the font of your OS (hot take: for me this is a killer feature). And it's also reliable. Of course you may encounter some bugs, but the Linux system is more reliable than Microsoft's crap in reality. If you don't know, the large majority of servers are running Linux. And I'm happy that Linux is rising and that Windows is falling, and glad too see that open source is still here. It has to. Linux is getting better and better, and more accessible over time while Windows is getting worse

And about the Linux users, I can understand it may be scary at first, because there isn't much users than the rest, and having to use the command line isn't something you would like to do, and of course you have your bunch of elitist users (I'm looking at the people who always says "I use Arch btw"). Yes Linux may take more time to set up to be functional but it can be very reliable, way more than any other operating system, but at the end, the normal person can use Linux.
Karmine
I've used many different Linux distros for different reasons and I can say that most are garbage
Ubuntu which is the most popular is also probably the worst, it has all the downsides of Windows aside from cost (nobody actually pays Windows but let's pretend) and none of the upside (like running games and a lot of software)
If you just need basic stuff (music, video, email, browser) and don't plan on working with specific software or playing games Debian is probably the best you can get (with the interface of your choice, unless it's Gnome, fuck that)
Other distros are either bloated with stuff you'll never use or made for specific uses (like Kali/Parrot), in which case they may actually be good

Linux users are just annoying, they keep trying to convince everyone to use their OS and behave like a sect
They also consume high amounts of copium whenever someone points out the many flaws of Linux, or the fact that Windows is better for 99% of people
Nuuskamuikkunen
Weeeell I am of those that doesn't like electronic waste so I'd say linux can give a new life to an ooooold device... if most people got used to it and was more intuitive to use for people that know nothing about PCs.
sametdze
I've never used it but I like then penguin mascot

i dont care about pc OS’s, just sticking with windows cuz if it works it works. so no opinion, never gonna use it
DM FOR MUTUAL
As a non computer person I don't really care that much. Never made a pc by myself, I've only ever used laptops, and they all come with windows preinstalled, and I'm too lazy to look into changing my os

just look at chromebooks and android as an example on how it got the public on linux (though android is far different)

from a few minutes of research: an oshi is someone you have a strong emotional connection to, in such a way that you want to support/push them to succeed. doesn't necessarily have to be someone you actually know (considering the term seems to have originated from japanese idol culture)

I apologize for the lack of questions recently. I got a bit busy and to be honest I also didn't really know what to ask as well. Nevermind that, we are here today for a new one, without formatting because I am on my phone and I hate doing that on my phone.

New question:
When do you usually go to sleep (in your timezone) and how much do you sleep usually?

I personally go pretty early, around 10:30PM(22:30) and I sleep until 6:15-6:30AM

New question:

Do you play gacha games? If so, why? If you don't, why?

I don't play gacha games. The reason is because to me, they feel exploitative and feature mechanics that are on purpose needlessly long and tedious and can be skipped through in-game purchases of kind.
lostsilver
do gacha club and gacha life 2 count?
they're character creators, but you get gems to get more characters
so idk if that would count
Kobold84
I play dolls frontline occasionally. The story is good, characters are good, the gacha elements are pretty mild. Would still not recommend it, all gacha games are addictive and not for a good reason.

ClevelandsMyBro
yep, well i used to but currently on a hiatus. after 3+ years of experience all i can say is people play gacha because they are;

1. poor(how ironic)
=> when people think of gacha they usually think of splashing huge amounts of cash just to get the character they desire but heres the catch; gacha games are free (bar a few exceptions). yes to outsiders it may seem like gambling but to gacha players its all free entertaniment.
unrelated but i find it kinda interesting aswell how the more/less you make the more fun gambling is meanwhile middle income people think its predatory. kinda like a reverse bell graph.

2. weebs

edit: forgot to mention myself. i play gacha because i like big anime tiddies and yes i do think the gambling aspect of it is predatory and a waste of time. the only time i have poured even an ounce of cash is when the game is good, the dev is good, and cosmetics. only under these three conditions where i would succumb to my desire and get some skins.
Patatitta
no: I don't see the appeal, if I want to play a rpg, I just play a single player RPG, if I want a game to farm in it constantly, I load POE or something, why would I want to play a RPG or whatever with just pure RNG and mcirotranstactions on top of it to get characters and stuff when there is an alternative where I can just farm the shit I want to farm?
Isshiki Kaname
Tbh, I don't really want to grind/gamble for pngs. I'd rather commission an actual artist and play a less scummy game.
Nuuskamuikkunen
Heck no. Not a fan of PTW.

(Hides his Yu-Gi-Oh cards)
WitherMite
tried genshin for a couple weeks at launch, was alright, but considering I got a bit bored after I hit what was then end of the main story at the time and stopped playing before the real grind started, gacha games just aren't for me. though I did get lucky and pull venti on my free banner pulls at the start, which was cool I guess.

have also played the first bit of other gachas out of curiosity, but rarely make it past the tutorial where you get all the free shit. Only lasted so long with genshin because apart from being a gacha, the story and gameplay was fun.
Hydreigon
i do play them from time, mainly Arknights or Star Rail or Reverse1999, i would say for me, a good gacha game would be one on how F2P friendly it is meaning that you dont have to pull or spend money on stuff or spend lots of time grinding the game. Another pro for gacha games is that most are already free from the start, meaning you dont have to spend money to buy the game and can play/uninstall the game anytime you want. Other pro's can be on how well the story is and the characters as well.

Yes the gambling issue can be a problem for some, but for me i dont suffer from it cause, my family would kill me if they find out im spending lots of money on these types of games and i want to challenge myself by being F2P only and try to see if i can beat the game using the characters from just pulling normally i have.

So i think its a genre that is enjoyable for some people especially for some who want to just try out a free game, but not to all.

arent those games more on Role Playing? prob does not count since its more on Pay 2 get more character customizations like Roblox.

Now thats the cooler gacha, albeit your prob gonna spend more money trying to collect the pokemon or yu gi oh cards you want oof.
Patatitta
tbh I feel that if you just dont have money, there are lots of alternatives to gacha. You got POE, warframe, osu!, CSGO, you can download just any emulator, games like death stranding were gifted by epic, so like playing gacha is a choice, not just because lack of options
Hydreigon
Yes i agree its a choice and the other free games can be nice, the thing is its a different genre compared to those other free games, so some might enjoy CSGO more and spend more time in it, but others might not like and want just a singleplayer rpg like Genshin.

Emulating is nice, but i guess the con is that you can only play old games, and man i barely use the Epic games store, only just play Fortnite there and just deleted it once i was done with the game, other subscription service like PS Plus and Xbox game pass offer lots of nice games for free, but it cost monthly.
Karmine
My answer is the same as OP, fuck these games
