The question for today, to kick things off is: what do you actually think of furries?

I find them innocent until proven guilty, much like everybody else online. You aren't a scumbag until you do something that makes you one.

Furries are great people! They're not dangerous at all (mostly Nuuskamuikkunen <3)

Literally I give zero shit. I'm kinda like, beyond labels and genders. You're just a person to me. Unless yeah, you do something bad.
Nuuskamuikkunen
Just like the majority of places, there's always a vocal minority that makes furries worse than they actually are...

Either way we're not the sanest people around but eh. We're quite accepting of people in general.

tbh, i don't mind if people like what they like, just as long as they're happy

they're OK
i strongly doubt they will die because peppy has always been pro-forums himself and they've always been around regardless of whatever app chat thingy is most popular at the moment. they've been around when msn was a thing, when team speak was a thing, when skype was a thing... pretty sure if the game was created in the 90s they could've been active during the irc times as well. and discord isn't going to be any different, whatever comes next isn't going to replace them either

Winnyace wrote:

How you got in osu! and what you made stick around playing/interacting with the community?
i had the realization that one of my favorite youtubers (who no longer has any sort of presence online) used to play the game and upload plays on his channel so i decided to join
the forum i was into at the time was dying quickly (mostly because it was comprised of a VERY small community and it was not friendly to new people at all) so i decided to move over here

Winnyace wrote:

introvert

Winnyace wrote:

hard to answer this one. i like listening to videogame soundtracks a lot, which involve a lot of different genres
i've also been listening to a lot of synthwave recently. i guess that's the one? for now at least

Winnyace wrote:

some time ago i posted an image saying something along the lines of should furries be genocidied in response to someone making a shitty thread about the boykisser meme and my post got deleted so i feel like i am not at 100% liberty to talk about them (it wasn't even serious, it was just a joke along the many bad ones i've said in my time here, but it's good to know that some people at the GMT are this defensive towards furries lol)

my opinion isn't any different than what the people above me already said. as long as you're not constantly shoving your interests in my face & making that your whole personality i think you're fine ColdTooth is the best furry

If the game die's, then it will prob die with it too, but thats probably not gonna happen anytime soon
Most game's have their own forums, and i dont see why this should die out, considering this is used a lot for many other topics like mapping or need of advice.

Winnyace wrote:

Gamer rage compilations vid in youtube, saw someone doing osu, and i didnt recognize the game, so i tried it out.
Wanted to get high ranks, left the game a year later because of burnout and studies, stayed in the forums cause i wanted to chat here and see whats happening to the game. Came back recently, cuz im not really enjoying other games right now, and i want to try to get high rank again.

anyways i dont have anything for nor against furries. they act stupid at times but everyone does that and as long as they dont do stupid shit then its gucci.

The only Gran turismo game i played back then was GT4, and younger me wasnt really a fan of sim racing back then, i just really liked NFS's more arcade racing, so i didnt play it that much, maybe older me would have liked it now, but i currently havent tried playing it again, i am playing GT7 currently, and while i do enjoy playing it and its multiplayer from time, and the fact its the only "good" modern racing game currently, the negative's of the game make it not one of my favorites.

Havent played Ace combat but I do remember enjoy playing a lot of flying sims back then, and younger me likes to crash the plane most of the time, so yeah... i was a plane fanatic back then, but nowadays not so...

also, whenever we're talking about our favourite anything / the best anything, it's best to really be specific, which is something I realized I didn't do nor anyone else

for example

when cerno said that MW2 is one of their favourite games, did they mean it was the game that they have one the fondest memories of but wont really play today or one of their favourite shooter to play in this current date?

for me, the games I listed where the ones I enjoyed the most while I was playing them, not the best games I would recommend today. It's better to clarify to avoid confusion

for the list i kinda just merged both together, games that were/are genuinely great or ones that i had fond memories playing. mw2 was simply just my first shooter, and my first experience in multiplayer gaming in general, hence why it’s on there.

the same goes for Hitman blood money, the controls and overall gameplay of that game is outdated as shit in today’s standards. But it was a game that i sank hundreds of hours into back in my youth

I literally just meant your favorite, favorite meaning "one that is treated or regarded with special favor or liking". What games you like the most, now, currently?

it's not that clear cut most of the time tbh. For example, when you're talking about "the greatest game ever", some people refeer to the original mario bros as it had a lot of impact, however, by modern standards, mario 1 is not the greatest game ever made. When the argument is presented, is hard to argue against mario 1 being the greatest game ever unless we specify the grounds we're talking about. With favourites is the same thing really, someone will call the favourite the one that they're playing the most rn, not the one that they have enjoyed the most in the past and other similar things

Plutonium only works for mw3, bo1, bo2 and waw i think.

also for the newer cods, so far the new mw3 multiplayer has been pretty fun. though charging it full price for essentially just a patch/dlc that woulda made mw2 a better game is extremely unjustified

New question: Do you use a laptop or a computer? Which one do you think is better?

I personally use a gaming laptop currently due to uni, but before this I had always used a PC as my computer. I personally like a computer more, not gonna lie. I don't like how limited hardware wise laptops are. No way to upgrade or easily change a component if it goes bad.

I'm personally using a laptop for school, and it's convenient having a single device, but I agree that laptop are more expensive, less durable and less performant than a full computer.

Recently, got a gaming laptop cuz im going to college soon and i need to use it for studies, for me i think both have there advantages and negatives

Computer is better if you want more power and graphics and is flexible on upgrading

While laptop is better for well... going around with it

So i dont think there really is a better option, it just depends on the situation and stuff.

I use a computer. Bigger screen is very convenient, and i prefer to not have to charge something i use so often
Patatitta
pc is best due to it running better however for school and stuff laptop is better
Ymir
I use a gaming laptop, a terrible shortsighted decision I made when I was 15.
Not the greatest for gaming, not the greatest for school stuff due to battery life (which I value more now).
Karmine
I don't have a laptop which is very inconvenient for uni
Overall desktop is better for things you only need at home (like gayming) but laptop is more convenient for anything you might need in different places (work/school basically)
lostsilver
i own both a laptop and a mac
i use my mac for miscellaneous things (like posting here for example), and i use my laptop for stuff like fnf sprites, making fnf covers, etc! :)
Nuuskamuikkunen
If I had to choose though, I'd use a laptop due to portability. Desktops are pretty good tho but since upgrading is not something I can really afford, it'd not make much difference to me.

the reason i never finished the game was because i would spend my session just playing crash mode lol. would constantly try and one up my pb and it never gets boring because its just so satisfying to see your car cause a national tragedy every single fucking time. i think till this day i still remember the exact line for my high score in waterfront lol.

ea was defo cooking something in the early-mid 00's dawg the amount of masterpieces the churn out across multiple genres during that period was insane. its defo sad to see the state they are in now in hindsight.

ot: been using latop for all my life but would 100% switch to pc. never had one because of space and money constraints tho and probably never will during my time in uni aswell. indonesian dorms are absolutely shit. currently residing in one of the cheaper ones and its fucking cramped as fuck and the more expensive ones are worth a fortune. so even if i have enough money to aford a pc setup i probably wouldn't even get to use it because of the lack of space

New question: Are you guys open about playing osu to others IRL or not?

I'm personally. I see nothing wrong with playing the game, to be honest.
ClevelandsMyBro
yep. just played 4k mania infront of friends in class whilst waiting for the professor to arrive. apparently some other guy brought their mech keyboard to class to play osu too.

What are some of your favorite games?
the zelda games from the nintendo 64, which also happen to be the first videogames i've ever played. one hell of an introduction i'd say

there's also a lot of games that i still remember fondly even today but the list is too large and i'd have to spend an entire day writing them down, which i don't wanna

Winnyace wrote:

New question: Do you use a laptop or a computer? Which one do you think is better?
both
depends on your needs honestly. i use a computer for posting/playing videogames/any recreational activity and a laptop for job stuff. they serve different purposes and i wouldn't say one is inherently better than the other

Winnyace wrote:

yes
i've always been very open about playing this game (when i still played it, that is) and even managed to make some classmates play (without even trying to convince them)
(i think it was the fact that i put the big black on auto and made it look like i was the one playing the map, flawlessly hitting all the notes. they were like HOLY SHIT DUDEEEE THAT IS COOL WHAT IS THIS GAME CALLED)

I actually wanted to do that in my class in HS, not gonna lie, but I decided it against it and just played normally

What's your general opinion on internet privacy? You think it is possible or not?

My opinion
I believe privacy to be possible, but not anonymity. Full anonymity isn't really possible IRL for obvious reasons and I don't believe it should be possible online either. Privacy, on the other hand, is important and very definitely possible online, sometimes at the cost of convenience, though.

Reyalp51
anonymity good
nothing more to say lol
Patatitta
depends on the definition of privacy, me having a profile in osu! and people not being able to find me on discord? absolutely not, companies not stealing data? I think that in the long run (like 100/200+ years if humanity does not end) I don't think that would be a issue
Aireunaeus
privacy, imo is like not showing detailed infos about u. luckily google and other sorts of search engines made it harder to find any detailed info about a person's work data. as long, as i do not post my full name on the internet, I'm pretty much safe. so it's quite possible.
Karmine
Privacy is good but comes at the cost of convenience, most people don't care at all about it
lostsilver
privacy for me is things like not stating my age, where i live, personal things about me or my family, etc
my gender is okay, my appearance is okay, it's just any of the things i stated above is not
anaxii
It's important everywhere on the internet, without privacy, it would be HELL

What's your opinion on social media as whole? What's your favorite social media platform and why? Do you think forums like this one provide an alternative to social media or not?

My opinion on this
I think it's overall beneficial for us, however we need to be careful how we use them, as these websites can become really dangerous. I'm talking here mainly about overspending time on them, not fact checking/thinking for ourselves about what is presented to us, getting a twisted sense of how things actually go down IRL, outside.

My favorite social media platform has to be YouTube. It provides the most for its users and allows creators to express everything what they want, more or less, without limitations.
Patatitta
I mean, social media as the name implies is as social thing. If you want to socialize, you have to use social media 95% of the time. Is that good? idk, I haven't lived in an age when it didn't exist, social media is older than me

my favourite social media platforms is whatever my friends are on. I have no loyalty for a cetain product or company, I just use social media because one must use social media, even if you want to do something outside it, like find movie recommendations, all of the recommendations nowadays are shared on social media

now, for the typical argument of "people are spending too much time in social media!!!"

yeah

idk what to say to that it's just the way life is. It's true that websites could be less predatory in the way they show certain information like followers or whatever so it isn't as big of a focus. But I just thing the way the actual argument is carried out most of the time is kinda empty. There is no solution for someone to just stop being hypersocial or trying to live a better life than others or making your life look better than it is. All of that has existed since the dawn of human history, social media just amplifies it like it amplifies all elements of the social life.

Of course we should not just give up and allow everyone to become addicts, it's good that there is a negative
connotation torwards those actions. But I just think this problem is here to stay

Winnyace wrote:

Forums ARE social media. Just an older version of it. So no, it's not an alternative to social media, because forums are social media
Karmine
I wish it didn't exist in the form it does today

Current social media is a plague on society, because they're so big and visible it makes it much harder to stay anonymous (especially when they require you to share personal identifiable information), making social media take way too much space in people's lives
How dystopian is it that recruiters will stalk your social media profiles for a job? There's even social media made specifically for that (LinkedIn)
Also because it's all connected, groups that are very opposed and used to be on their own spaces (forums/IRC/Usenet) are now on the same platform, leading to lots of fighting and self-sustained hatred, it's a vicious circle (Filter bubble, pressure by the group you belong to, fear of rejection...)

Being able to connect with people all over the world online is amazing, forums are great for well thought discussions (or even fun stuff) and things like IRC/Discord are great for instant chats
Both are separated into small groups depending on interests or other factors (language, location, age...), it's a great way to meet new people you have something in common with while avoiding people you wouldn't want to meet (see above)
Even though most are technically just as public as big platforms, because there are so many it's much easier to stay anonymous if you don't connect your different profiles by directly sharing them, using same username/avatar or sharing PII
lostsilver
i dont use social media other than youtube, and i dont really think forums count
but i know places like twitter, reddit, stuff like that are bad
this isnt really a topic id dive into so thats really all youll get out of me
