Since you're new, I'd recommend trying out heroes from each free week (they automatically show up in your hero selection screen and the selection rotates every week) and seeing who you like. I've made a few buys that I've regretted because I only read the champ's skill set and thought that I would have liked playing them, but once I actually bought them and tried them out, realized that I thought they were boring as hell.
