i dont know what brand you play but when i drop brand's ulti in a teamfight, everything it touches pretty much explodes.

the reason you lost that one is not because of your morde (whom at least built correctly for the most part, but because of your gangplank - whom despite having nearly 390+ AD and guaranteed crit, had no defense items whatsoever and found himself dead before he could do well, anything in a teamfight.

Since you're new, I'd recommend trying out heroes from each free week (they automatically show up in your hero selection screen and the selection rotates every week) and seeing who you like. I've made a few buys that I've regretted because I only read the champ's skill set and thought that I would have liked playing them, but once I actually bought them and tried them out, realized that I thought they were boring as hell. Yeah, knowing who you can go 1v1 against takes a bit of time to get used to.
Haha and yeah, fighting under an enemy tower definitely is not a good idea unless you know you can kill under it and escape without dying. Each turret hit deals 2 bars of damage (200 health), so judge accordingly if you are going to actually do something like that. XD

I used to play some HoN back when it was in beta but stopped when it went retail and cost $30 for an account. I only play LoL off and on now on nights when I feel like dealing with the community. @Xi: IMO, I think DotA would be top tier in terms of difficulty, while HoN is a step below, leaving LoL on the bottom. LoL certainly is very casual in comparison to DotA and HoN. It's much more fast paced and you don't have to worry about denying towers or creeps or other teammates and you don't have to buy an item in order to recall back to your base. lol
Very surprising - to me at least. Then again, i don't know much about DotA, i just assumed based on the moba genre.

Sivir is definitely not a great choice for killing champs at the moment, she's in need of serious buffs and is only really good for pushing at the moment

Playing as Annie, i tend to lag behind somewhat early game in terms of levelling (don't know why), but get a lot more kills because of huge burst potential. And she's just sooooooooo cuuuute :3

I have always thought soraka sucked and still do. She sucks for the same reason morgana sucks: high cooldowns, useless afterwards. What's worse is that soraka actually provides less support than morgana, and substantially less damage. Soraka is just an aura bot basically.
I guess some people just weigh her health/mana restoration early game heavily.
