Since you're new, I'd recommend trying out heroes from each free week (they automatically show up in your hero selection screen and the selection rotates every week) and seeing who you like. I've made a few buys that I've regretted because I only read the champ's skill set and thought that I would have liked playing them, but once I actually bought them and tried them out, realized that I thought they were boring as hell. So i played some Twisted Treeline earlier today, and found it much easier than Summoner's - not just in terms of pushes being much easier. I got a lot more early game ganks (as Kassadin) than on Summoner's and got on with mah build much quicker.
