Literally every source I have found outside of this game doesn't pronounce it "oh-su", or "oss", but more like "oss-uu". This is VERY fucking weird.
Aiseca
I just say it as oh-sue, I don't really bother the technicality.

This has to be trolling.

If the audio when you get on the game pronounces it as "oh-ssss", and the developer put the file into the game himself, then it's obviously "oh-ssss".

Anyone who says "oh-suu" is weird, or trying to become a weeb with an English accent.

if anyone's trying to say "osu!" as in "oscillate" then I'm prepared to oscillate between not my two fingers, but my two fists, into their face--

...less, suppressed shame, and tell them it's okay to pronounce osu! correctly, and then pull my metaphorical fists out for them to consider their vile deed...

I know it's supposed to be "ohss" but I really just don't care all that much. Neither do any of my friends. We've also just been saying it like that for so long that I sometimes forget it's incorrect.

Seems like most tend to not care either since the survey has, as of now, 24 people who chose that option.

'Osu' has a 'u', therefore there's a 'u' sound.
You can pronounce the 'u' just how you want, but for the love of God please don't just drop it out of the word.
Almost as bad as the people who pronounce 'scones' as 'scons'. There's clealy a 'e' there! Why are you just dropping letters out just because you can't be bothered to pronounce them?!

Me too, even though the game does pronounce how it's meant to be said on start up, whoops (I just forget as I've always thought of it as oh-sue)

that's just like saying we should include the 'h' sound when we pronounce 'hour'-

Most Japanese tend to spell 'su' as an 's' sound (です is the most common example, where you can hear ppl say 'des' more than 'desu'). So yes 'ohs' is the more correct way to pronounce the name.

Can partly confirm. Vowel u in Japanese is very likely to be pronounced as an extension of the consonant before it, like tsu sounds more like tsss with a tone attached than actual tsu. Same applies to the other consonants.

However, end words like です・ます (desu/masu) are not ideal examples because natives tend to omit the long tone coming after. Words like すごい(sugoi) would be better examples of “extended consonant with a tone” thing.

So initially, osu is to be pronounced like osss, with a tone. There should be no problem for non-Japanese speakers to just pronounce as it spells.
Nuuskamuikkunen
Also worth nothing that the su/shi/tsu being pronounced as s/sh/ts does not occur in all Japanese dialects, while in Kanto (which includes the standard Tokyo dialect used in media) and Kyushuu is something common, people from Kansai and other zones might not reduce the su/shi/tsu sounds.

because of my accent, i pronounce it like the way the guy in the game says "welcome to osu" but then i had an extra "ooh" and the end. so it's basically oss-ooh
