I look and I see metroid, touhou, zelda, and final fantasy mentioned here? Even if they had their bad moments they can't be called the worst games unless you have only played like 3 games in your life D:

I don't know I have played some pretty bad games but they weren't so bad back when I played them 10 years ago, superman 64 was terrible for its time, one of the few games I put down and didn't ever try again.

It's either troll or anti-hype troll. While "Metriod" was a somewhat mediocre game, "Super Metriod" (as specified) is in the top 10 best games of all time (for several reasons) so don't get too crestfallen bro

Can't say for sure what the worst game I've played is. Maybe Tokyo Bus Guide. My brother seems to enjoy it but I did not like it at all.

I can't say Big Rigs is the worst game I've ever played because I laughed like an idiot for the entire 45 minutes I played it.

Many other games also have the exact same shit on their sequels too, and if we'll follow your logic then a lot of other games are candidates for 'worst game' then.

I personally don't find Touhou as being a game that I would contribute myself fully in (to be fair it's actually kind of hard to add more elements to basic vertical bullet hell shooter games, and ZUN successfully did actually add something new in TH12.8), but I can't even imagine myself making it a candidate for 'worst game ever'. (I am truthfully speaking from a video game player's point of view)

But that said, I have played a lot of bad games, but since they were bad I don't even remember which ones they were. Go figure. The fact that I can remember a game pretty much means that it's not a bad one.

And on a bit of an unrelated note...

It's also due to the fact there are much much better alternatives if I want to play a shoot 'em up. Horizontal is superior, so if I want to play a shoot 'em up I'll play Gradius, Life Force, etc.
Why so defensive?

Edit: Oh right, the reason why I mentioned all of them were the same is because he mentioned that I probably only played 3 of the games(At least, I assumed it was partly directed at me). So I backed it up by mentioning I did, in fact, play all of them.

That is a horrible statement. It isn't really that hard at all, it's just that the bullet hell market is niche piece of shit that makes the same sorts of (sometimes incredibly good) games over and over again.

@RL Link I don't think it's fair to compare shmups to bullet hell games. In my experience they're different enough to be classified separately, and even though I enjoy shmups (I am bad at them) I could not enjoy a bullet-hell game. Bullet-hell games are just too...scripted. It's not reactive, it's memorization. You memorize hitboxes and "safe zones" within bullet patterns.

I prefer my careless fumbling around and real-time reaction in shmups to a scripted path.
The_Priest_In_Yellow
I'm having trouble deciding which would be the absolutely worst game I've ever played. I could shoot off a list, but that would defeat the point of a worst game.

Actually that mentality has been destroyed ever since TH11 came out, which was around 4 years ago or something, IDK. TH02-10, I agree with that statement though. All you can really memorize about patterns now in the newer games is how they look.

Actually right now I'm playing the most recent games of the Strikers series and...

...the techniques I'm using there don't really differ much to the ones I'm using in Touhou :< Less bullets but more fast-paced? There's still no denying the fact that a bullet can only have two directions: towards you and not towards you. Knowing that basic rule, the overused technique of streaming pretty much works with both bullet hell and shmups alike. The main difference though is the random factor, which contributes to the monotonous play of bullet hell, and is probably what sets it apart from shmups too.

To be fair, Touhou (since I really haven't played other bullet hells yet, I'm going to go safe here and only mention this one) already has its fair share of unscripted bullet patterns already, and that safespots don't really exist that prominent anymore. My friend who normally plays Lunatic couldn't even finish the newest Touhou's (TH12.8) Easy in the first 3 tries. And I can't even contemplate how fast the reflexes have to be in order to clear Lunatic (the average speed of bullets there is that it can cross the entire vertical screen within 1.5 seconds), and this time it actually feels like you need more reflexes than memorization now. ZUN's probably trying to remedy the inevitable fact that Touhou, is indeed, getting more monotonous every time, and that there are other bullet hells now that are rivaling the difficulty of Touhou, which is one of Touhou's biggest selling points as a video game.

Talk shit about Touhou, people get butthurt. Christ, take it like an adult, peeps (especially the people defending Touhou; some people have opinions, guys).

Anyway, back on topic. While I already mentioned the worst game I ever played, another contender is Shaq Fu (another obvious casualfag choice I know but still).

...I somewhat enjoyed myself.

Edit: So, I've had a good think about it and I either can't remember the horrible games I've played or I haven't played them because I don't like playing shit games.

So here's the two that stick out in my mind.

1942 for the NES
This would just be a mediocre game if the music weren't so fucking horrible. I mean, seriously, who the hell thought anyone would enjoy that? A series of seemingly randomly placed bleeps and bloops until it gets to a point where it plays something that's actually decent just to mess with you, and then we're back to the fucking bloops.

Custer's Revenge for the Atari 2600
Putting aside the subject matter of you walking across the screen to rape a native American woman who is...tied to cactus, this game is just piss poor.
Still, at least it has slightly better music than 1942.

I thought Shaq Fu was okay. I mean yeah, it was pretty bad, but it wasn't horrid. I have two fighting games for the Genesis: Shaq Fu, and Weaponlord. Weaponlord has some neat mechanics, but the difficulty is so grueling that I just can not enjoy it in the least.

The_Priest_In_Yellow
I hate picking shit like "the worst game evar" or "the greatest motherfucking CoD evar".
So here's aran five and I bet I'll remember some more shit in ten minutes that will make this list completely outdated.

5. The Thing.
Oh you motherfuckers why are you doing this to me hnnrgh. I know, games licensed off of movies are more often than not shit, but I couldn’t help getting excited about this because hey ! How could they fuck this up !

Well they found a way. Between awkward controls, stiff characters and boring enemies, you had to work against bugs and tedious fuse box "puzzles". Not to mention the horribly strained story.

4. The X-Files (Game).
I so wanted to love this. It's a fucking x-files game, how could you not succeed. Oh, it's a full motion video title on seven disks. Ok cool, I played Myst : Riven. While the game does offer… nnnnsome entertainment (mostly by being a prick to everyone), it quickly bogs down in "try everything on everything" and "sit there and watch". Some if not most of the acting is outright hilariously bad, I'm getting the feeling neither David Duchovny nor Gillian Anderson was particularly excited about acting for this thing. Another grand fault is that you only have one way to go in some moments of the game, while I do like linear, this takes it to the extreme. You more or less need to memorize the path you need to take in certain places through brute force trial and error until you get it right. Nice atmosphere though.

Oh and by all the neutron stars, can't you come up with a better title than "The X-Files Game" ?

3. Bible Adventures.
Sighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsighsigh.

2. Castlevania (Nintendo 64).
Why. Bad controls, bad camera. Horrible 3D, alright it was early 3D but it was still horrible to look at and poorly animated. How aim whip in 3D ? Maybe it's just that I prefer Castlevania in the 2D sidescrolling fashion, but oh gigahertz.

1. Two Worlds.
I know this isn't an old game either, but I think it more than qualifies. I don't know what it is, it just bores me to death. I've tried playing it about ten times now and I have yet to complete more than two quests. There is just something about the game that makes it utterly unplayable, not even for laughs. The horse controls like a drunkard, a drunkard on speed when you try to gallop. The graphics aren't really that bad, not really that good either, just really uninspiring. Voice acting is… okay, I guess. Sounds is pretty nice, gameplay not horribly broken.

It just falls into that category of games that are just so generic that they cease to exist. Two Worlds feels like a chore to play, I think that's what I'm aiming for, a game should never feel like a chore. Nothing redeems this title. The X series (X : Beyond the frontier – X2 : The threat – X3 : The Reunion) may be tedious to play, but it never feels that way. Where those games shine, this title fails and is quickly forgotten.

Behon
Batman Forever for SNES. Its suckiness became such a running joke between me and my brother that I got it off eBay for $5 and gave it to him as a prank birthday gift a decade later before giving him the real present, just to see the reaction. When he saw it, he silently lowered his head and buried it in his hands.
FabledArc
I'll admit I liked Castlevania on the N64 back in the day, but not enough to play it. Now days it nice to indulge in the nostalgia it brings, stopping just short of the hedge maze.

The worst game I ever played though was Malice for the PS2 (multi-console game). Yes, played through. I got to the credits of that mediocre mess. It was all hyped up, but ultimately sucked. You play as demi-god Malice, out to do...something. I think get her powers back. So you have to go through some linear worlds, no backtracking allowed (you miss those "heart pieces" and they're lost forever), death is a slap on the wrist and it's easier to just reload the save file instead of wasting half an hour returning to life, and everything gets dull after 10 minutes. Oh, and the final boss? Same pattern over and over and Malice does barely any damage to it. Yeah. Fun. :/

As for the ending...
SPOILER
Malice stands on the cracked ground of the final boss' arena as it becomes filled with flora. She turns to the gamer and says: "Don't call me Mother. Just call me Malice!" Sound of weapon hitting something.
Roll credits, which I think could be accessed from the main menu. Can't remember much more than that except for a farting mushroom mutant, the ability to float, shrinking, and a level where you had to sneak by crows, the minions of the big bad.

I'd put down a few more, but chances are I've blocked them out.

I HATE Fullmetal Alchemist: Dual Sympathy. It was about three hours long, and half the story was told to you. The most f**king annoying minigame in the history of minigames was in this game. The minigame was to tap the bottom-left corner followed by the bottom-right corner, then the left etc. It took me a whole hour to complete this minigame (e.g. 33% of the story) and in the end, someone else had to do it for me, because I couldn't move my hand that fast. The story wasn't even any good, so worst $15 game ever.

Forget it people for you are all WRONG in the face of my pick for THE WORST COMPLETE game ever, Bebe's Kids.

1. It only coincedes with the plot twice, and that's only in the cutscenes.

2.It has a battle system that has TIERS IN ITS ATTACKS. (Short attacks deal I hit of damage whereas on the same scale, heavy attacks deal 10 TIMES THAT.) So punches deal 1/35 damage where as uppercuts cut that into 1/3 of the enemies' usual life.

3.Worst final boss theme ever/worst rap ever. I have a feeling that if I link to it I will find a APPROVED BEATMAP in return.

4.Too difficult.(Losing a [non-existant] life makes you have to repeat the intermission before the level you were just in too. You'll know you reached a checkpoint when you face the same thing as the first level, only harder.

5 Controls are awful.

6. Look at their walk animations!

I love the game like Dwanye Johnson loves his daughters in movies but it has faults.

1. Whoever thought that a separate battle theme just for hippies obviously had TROLOLOL on the mind. I'm looking at you, Itoi.

2. Somethings could have been handled better and some music was just stupid. Like most of the ordinary battle themes are downright mocking. They not only copy other songs but they don't make a good track when they did it.

3. I have discovered a HUGE bug that if done properly, let's you skip the 5th and 6th dungeons and not even know that there was a key item in the sewers. What kind of jerk listens in on phone calls made for museum curators anyway? If you just avoid the phone conversation that ties in to Venus, the Plague-Infested Rat, and the signature then the game won't tell you what you did wrong unless Hint Man would offer his services.

Now onto Earthbound.

I perfer Mother. I perfer Mother vastly. Why?

Mother 1 is a lot darker.

Mother 1 presents the kind of challenge you'd expect from Shin Megami Tensei. And I love me some SMT.

Mother 1 has a protagonist who can be somebody other than a healer. So what if he doesn't have a special move? Can Ness send his enemies into the 4th dimmension? At the cost of around 8 pp? I think not. Also Ninten learns PK Beam. That's awesome.

It really touched my heart when Teddy died. It was his death that hardened my resolve to scale Mount Itoi the second time.

The dance was great, as well as the relationship choice that had no actual effect on the story.

Also, Loid/Lloyd's shining moment. I wonder if he ever got over the fact that Teddy's death was partially his fault. Teddie was already ER ready and then his body got hit by a tank missile explosion. He spent his last moments telling the party to live on and for Lloyd to be brave.

In Earthbound Zero he recovers.

In Mother 1 he dies.

This is voiced by the fact that checking him and talking to him will reveal nothing but an empty text box. Why do you think he got his ultimate weapon so fast? He just went from a knife to a good sized sword then he died.

That was more touching than an old man whisking away the foreign kid for a lesson in spiritual enlightenment.

I am not prejudiced to mods. I just don't like jokers who do things like that male or female. Earthbound will not ever be the best RPG ever. Giygas is not that disturbing. I'm too busy wailing on him to care just what the fetus freak looks like. And furthermore*shot*

Actually, I'm pretty sure you are! There was absolutely no reason to bring up my moderator position in the first place.

And plus, nobody even said Earthbound was the best RPG.

There are actually no faults in Earthbound. Not one.
You were saying?
Ivalset
Yes, I said it has no faults and it is a perfect game.

It is not the best RPG.
NessOnett_old
Favorite is Earthbound by far.

But the worst? Any of the DW Empires series. So boring.

Oh I see what you did thar. You'd rather have someone who's down to Earth than something that has no flaws.

not trying to troll here but the last game i played and that i hated it was apb
why? frustrating gameplay, might pvp vs some ppl with way more powerful guns then yours, car controls are terrible, screen might freeze when driving and when it unfreezes you are ramming a wall( i am totally serious this happened when i was driving a car with my friend and we were getting chased by cops), missions are really repetitive, and when you are a criminal and you want to do some awesome stuff (stealing a store, or mugging some1) you will always get chased by some cops even if theres nobody around you, criminals notority dont even look like dropping and cops prestige goes down so easily, and this is the first game that i got a blue screen of my life even if i had the required system to play it
but in some way i like it because of the customization ( btw my close and open beta feedback was something like that and i bet it was never read by any realtime world dev D: )
all i hope is that k2 network will improve it since they purchased apb and will relaunch it in 2011
