i think the funiest part of this is when a BN tell you to map a new Insane to fill the gap between a GD Insane and your Hard, and after see this stupid rule coming from nowhere and is contradictory with everything peoples agrees on it.

JUST CHANGE IT ! DO IT ! YES YOU CAN !
Just listen to all the people who already complain here, and all other who will stop mapping just because of this rule who destroy everything.

The second rule is seems illogical as there is no set definition what difficulty includes which gameplay-elements.
Depending on the song different gameplay-elements are appropriate to reflect the song, making it impossible to judge what difficulty name a map should receive.
The only way I see is classifying the difficulties after the gameplayelements in a scheme like
Used snaps; Most Used Spacing(time);DS Used; SV Used;Frequency of DS Changes; Frequency of SV Changes; Main Patterns used

So my difficulty(3,8*) may be called
124;2;-;1.8;10;10;Flowbased Sliders on high/changing SV

opposed to my second difficulty(3.6*)
1248;4;1.5;1.4;3;0;Changing Directions a lot+Streamjumps+Kicksliders

Which again, no casual player wants to read or understand.

With the current icons - which are known to not reflect difficulty properly - naming difficulties is not easy impossible and it kind of fucks with all difficulty naming so far.
While I think that fucking with difficulty naming in standard and making it tie to gameplayelement usage is a very good idea this is FAR away from being polished and usable.
If you already do stuff while excluding the public you should try to think stuff to its end instead of making a scheme and then posting it into the forums. I'm very dissatisfied with having such a halfhearted piece of a rulescheme thrown at me.

If you are going to rewrite RC you have to consider every part of it. It doesn't make sense to write one part, toss it to the hard rules and then write the next one without really caring about context.

No your beatmap will be E-N-H-I for the community to look, and lazzzzy modders would get more interested to look your map!!!

Concerned about the restriction of having only 1 insane, while you prefer to having another insane with a different style??? Why waste your mapping ability for an insane??? Focus your full mapping abilities towards "Ultra"-classified difficulty, and make 20 kinds of various Ultra difficulties!!!

please reconsider approval maps that are over 10 minutes, idk if 20 min marathon that is an extra needs to have a insane, it's just a pain and probably a lot of extra or higher marathons won't be made now

Everything I wanted to say has been said already but I mean, what were you thinking guys? Who does this benefit? I don't really mind the approval rule, but one diff per icon? As others have said, this doesn't benefit players, who now have less variety, it kills mappers and GD mappers who want to express the song their way, and if, as you said, the mapper must make a new mapset for more diffs, doesn't that create more work for the BNG and QAT? Work that is unnecessary since you could just have all the Insanes in one mapset? I don't understand, to be perfectly honest.

To be honest, I wrote an entire essay and the osu website froze up when I tried to reply so I'll just keep this short. I probably should have saved a draft.

Removing the ability to create multiple insane difficulties and stating you want to add variety is the most stupid thing I've ever heard. I want to play multiple insane difficulties on a map I like, especially as the start difficulty raises. People would have to add variety this way by mapping the same song over, and over again.

I was going to finally upload a map I was actually going to try to rank, and I have no reason to now. It has multiple of the same difficulties, so what's the point? I have to remove my hard work? Thanks.

I would go into more detail. Afraid to lose all my wording again.

One thing I'm confused about is that insanes are restricted to one per set. So why has light insanes now been totally forgotten? They exist, they're like entry levels to insanes between hard and what a stereotypical insane feels like.

The most unenjoyable mapsets come from sets which jump from Hard -> very hard insane and nothing inbetween the two, a lot of players play a lot of the light insanes and middle ground insanes on mapsets before even considering the extras.


Also, does my star icon which I got from Irre on my Sigma set t/248186 void it from this new ruleset? It's such an old set now and I don't see the problem with me trying to get diffs which fill in gaps. What I don't understand is that this set is now unrankable yet each diff is easier/harder than the other, so the spread is going to be more immaculate than new sets, also I'll be sad to remove diffs.


I appreciate the idea behind this new ruleset, the problem is, why did you implement it before discussing it on the forums? It's inherently going to have issues like you missing out easy hards and very hards, light insanes and insanes. Who decides what's an extra and what's not, it's clear what insanes are.

An example of entry level light insane would be - https://osu.ppy.sh/b/654453&m=0 Without this diff, the mapset would be inaccessible to a lot of players, and Aiceo's diff is far from an Extra.

Mini-rant aside, While it would have been nice to have had this announced a little bit before being put into place, i think theres some benefits to this.

I think for this to be effective, there needs to be an acknowledgement of a more diverse spread of difficulty in terms of insanes. Because i agree that having like 2 hards is fucking retarded, but there are instances when 2 insanes act as logical stepping stones to difficulty, and i think they should be defined by two different difficulty names rather than excluded.

I entirely dont agree with the approval category rules. While it doest affect me much as i tend not to reach past insane difficulty in my maps, there is a lot of validity of having 5 minute intense-only mapsets. Especially seeing as i come from a time where you could get ANYTHING approved, it makes no sense to limit things.

Im curious to see how this turns out. I think that this actually tackles a lot of issues that have been "taboo" to discuss (aka. Cramming maps with difficulties, spread issues, etc), but id hope that it could be a dynamic system, and that we would someday receive either changes to rules that the majority of the community seem to disagree with, or there are explanations as why this seems to be the beat course of action.

Dear OSU!(RIP),

I have seen maps without sensible patterning getting mapped and this makes map are get more cancerous, but this rule becomes very vague as difficulty is decided subjectively thus evermore injecting diseases into the ranked map pool. Also this might potentially affect players in both the mapping community and playing community. For example, what will happen to Dragonforce maps?? I strongly believe OSU! staff has to listen to our opinions as our community is built up together and we all have the right to have our opinions voiced out and heard. Furthermore what is the purpose of making this rule, it won't solve or balance anything!

I can only hope that this rule does not go through. I am not a mapper, so I'm not going to act like the implementation of this rule affects me, but after the extreme backlash from the community it would show extreme disrespect towards the community if the staff were to continue with this.

Also please fix your graphic design. White text on a white background, seriously?

The changes are unfun for both players and mappers, I'm not sure how they got proposed as it is really obvious by just looking at the most played beatmaps, most of which do not fit under new rules.

  1. https://osu.ppy.sh/s/285153 the music is too calm to have a N-icon diff (or would look spaced with 1/2 on such a calm track), nothing is technically unrankable except "the fact it needs a N-icon diffs" c:
  2. https://osu.ppy.sh/s/326461 this would be unrankable cause it has 3 X-icon diffs ; removing Extra would just make a weird strange gap of 2,7*. lol?
yeah, worst idea.

about approval rule, i kinda disagree as a lazy mapper ; what if someone mapped a 25 mins X-icon diff? he would do another 25-mins diff just because of this rule, isn't that annoying?

So with that 2nd rule, mappers who already have multiple GDs of the same difficulty icons on their maps have to either remove some of those guest difficulties or split those difficulties into an alternative mapset of the same song?

Were you guys high on drugs during the discussion of this rule?
