Why does caramelldansen sound scary

aight lemme explain

So I have a weird fear of some old Eurobeat songs…

Mostly from songs like "butterfly", "caramelldansen" or even "Barbie girl".

Like... the loop on the chorus of caramelldansen feels unsettling for some reason. Mostly because it isn’t even looped properly. That thud sound at the beginning feels threatening and scary imo.

For the song "Im a little Butterfly" it's mostly because of those old Chinese Phone toys which loop the song in a low quality way, which makes it sound eerily unsettling and nostalgic...

Im being dead serious btw it more feels like a curse to listen to them… especially at night

Honorable mention even though it’s not eurobeat but the song Macarena is also kinda scary

I feel you have valid grounds to find it scary, but that it's an acquired taste of sorts, that you've seen this type of song be twisted somehow before and that is what is triggering that reflex

a lot of old youtube videos had things like incorrect cutting/looping, nothing scary about that

though you can't really fault them considering the most advanced video editing tool at the time was fucking vegas pro 7.0, which was REALLY prone to crashing and you even had to pirate beforehand because it was expensive as shit. it wasn't really something anyone could do at the time you know. now you actually have options like adobe premiere, davinci resolve, etc
