My question to the people of osu! is what do you play this game for? Is it to escape reality, playing for fun or something else?

There's a lot of potential within this game and it's community.

Fun is an understatement.

And osu! has never let me down, ever, I always come back and it's always great.

Well may the community and us all support it together as one.

Me to some extent. It's nice to make progress on something, even if it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Honestly I just like playing to the music. It feels like another way of deeply listening to music. Bonus points if a map is really fun to play

I don't think this is the game to do that. Very few, if any, play a game with absolutely no story and requiring active mechanical skill as a form of escapism.

Everyone is different in how they escape reality, most people who play osu! is either being alone or being with friends to my experience at least. Osu! brings people together.

Mainly playing that rhythm game for the daily challenges and playlists. This inevitably means that I'm not playing for performance points but for the pleasure of destroying circles

The short term satisfaction you feel when playing osu! is only a temporary escape to your long term loneliness, as none of these scores will ever matter in the end. Your addiction has broken you mentally, yet you refuse to acknowledge the problem. Soon it will be too late to save yourself...

idk I’ve been away for quite some time and I don’t really miss it honestly

but when I’m back I still get this familiar feeling of being clumsy, trying to do well in relatively challenging stuff but still making too many mistakes, being frustrated, then realising that it doesn’t have to be this way, then taking it easy, get bored, then back to the start and do the loop over again

until I feel like taking some long breaks

maybe that’s what it feels like to have a relationship lasted over 12 years

I play it for fun, It is my favorite game to play, I just enjoy the music and good maps.
If I were competitive however, I think osu! has the highest skill ceiling and expression of any game I've played or am even somewhat aware of, so that could be a good reason to play. Im skill coping though so I dont play for that reason.

for both fun and challenge, especially when I find enjoyment at reading on low AR maps, EZ, alt, and tech
