Thumb pain (yes probably common question)

I know that everyone probably asks this at the first sign of pain, but I'm going to ask anyway.
So, I "click" with my left index and ring finger and single tap for jumps and weird parts and alternate for the rest. The outside of the first joint from the arm on my thumb hurts when I press on it or bend it in a perpendicular motion to the top of the thumb. I don't really notice any tenseness in my thumb while playing but it could be because I am focused. I have already resigned to the fact that I shouldn't play for a week or so, but I'm worried that this will instantly come back right after my break. Should I change my hand posture or like tape my thumb or something lol. At this point I'm just writing what I'm thinking and wanted to hear opinions.

(Btw this is the first time I have felt a semi sharp pain that feels like it could be early onset rsi, carpal tunnel etc.)

Have you ever tried to put your thumb under your hand or put your thumb on the table so that it doesn't hurt? Did you have any hand injuries in the past?

For me personally, when I play osu, I raise it while having a hand in a spider-like pose; I never had any pain in my thumb

I haven't really had any hand/thumb injuries before. I tried putting my thumb under my hand or on the table but only for a little while so I don't know the lasting effects. I need to relax my thumb tendon somehow, but I'm not sure how lol.

Thanks for the tips though!!

I'm definitely not playing for a week at least. I'd rather lose a week of progress than having to quit.

I've had pain in my fingers and wrist before, but never my thumb. It might just be a random thing, sometimes you'll get stuck playing in an uncomfortable position and have some pain, but after you try and relearn your muscle memory from a break you'll be playing in a slightly different position and have no pain. Though if it keeps going then something's very wrong. My guess would be that you unconsciously tense up your thumb in an uncomfortable position when you tense up your tapping hand in general. Might also be from something outside of osu, it feels a bit strange that your thumb on your tapping hand would hurt while playing osu for no clear reason because it's not something you use to play osu.

Try warming up and do some hands stretches. Players here in the mania gamemode are more prone to hand-related injuries so we so some hand stretching to reduce the tension the pain on our hands.

Also if you do think it's possible you might've gotten an injury then it's worth checking it out with a health professional.
