Boosting implies someone else using your account to carry out actions. That is account sharing, which is against the rules.

They were in the old days, you could shoot kudosu to make a map rank faster

Giving kudosu to a map was the same back then as hyping is now, just that one had to put effort to get kudosu, while hypes are free.
Kudosu were a base requirement before a BN could act, and the more kudosu a map had, the higher it was on the list.
Pretty much the same with hypes nowadays. (Although I'm not too sure if there is still a priority list like it was back then)
Edit: Btw I dislike the idea of kudosu boosting, even if it serves no real purpose anymore.

Kudosu boosting back then meant that someone could use the gained kudosu to influence maps to appear higher in the work-in-progress or pending list.
Users had to put in the effort to gain kudosu, as QAT and GMT did revoke kudosu if it was awarded for the wrong reason.
If one wanted to actually abuse the kudosu system (boosting) one needed to have either a friend who awarded the kudosu or break the rules by multiaccounting.
As of now, kudosu doesn't have any other purpose than to determine eligibility to join the Beatmap Nomination Group (BN application)
Kudosu boosting now is just as simple as asking others to upvote a mod.
Since it doesn't have any purpose (other than the one stated above), not many people care about it.
I don't know why people would kudosu boost, perhaps so they can apply to the BNG sooner, or because they want to be in the kudosu leaderboard.
