It was a dark night, way past midnight on the eve of Halloween, past a Vulpix's bedtime, or so we all thought. She trembles out of bed in the darkest hour, with nothing but a nightlight to guide her path. Slowly putting on a hoodie and a scarf, she approaches her door. "Oh right", she thought to herself. The way outside required 6 different keys, all in varying order, and locked behind two chains. Behind her, she shined a light with magic towards the rest of the room, maybe alerting a crow or two outside of her window.
But why? Why was this specific Vulpix trying to get out of her own room? Surely something must be so important for her to get out of her room. Looking back inside her room, she leaned back against the door, resting her fluff against one of the chains, and not even a whole second passed and she already noticed something was off. The chain felt... so cold. Even for an Alolan Vulpix, it was extremely cold. Licking it would probably not be a smart idea, and then the breeze came in. The AC was on. How long has this Vulpix been in this room? Has anyone even bothered trying to make her feel at home in the OT reunion mansion, or have they simply forgotten about her?
She thought to herself once more, sighing. "I.. better find those keys again". Not long after she stood upright and walked forward, closer to the window. She peeked out from the curtain, feeling the chilly embrace of the air conditioner, the brisk night adding on to the cold temperatures. "Damn, I hope I'm not adding on to the house bill with this on 24/7". Her eyes shuddered, but she went back to searching for the keys, and not long after, her paws reached out for a drawer. Thankfully she knows exactly where she had them, hiding in plain sight. Grabbing the tiny container full of the keys she had, she slowly made her back to the door, keeping her noise level to a minimum.
Approaching the door, the chains glowed, albeit a very dim blue. She attempted to pry open the container, until she realized...
"Forgot the key for this one..."
But alas, it wasn't actually a keyhole. It required something far more complex, two sigils. One of which is already on her scarf, but the other, was locked away tight under her bed. The sigil on her scarf was easy, she just had to reach in to the inner fluff and grab it. It was a small stone-like rock, shaped like a coin, and had a diamond imprinted on the front of it, with the back in smooth stone. Now for the one under her bed, she slowly put the container and the sigil down on the ground, in vision under the moonlight and nightlight together. She peeked underneath her unmade sheets with her small magic light with her left paw, before finding the sigil tightly kept under a box. This one had the face of a friend, an unknown colleague of hers from long ago. Standing upright with the sigils and the container, she gently opened the container of keys. One of them rattled calmly, but stopped after the lid was open.
Every key was color-coded, a colorblind person's worst nightmare. Luckily for her, she wasn't colorblind, only slightly deaf. Setting the opened container of keys on a nightstand nearby, she grabbed one of the keys. Surprised, they were colder than usual, but not as cold as the chains on the door from earlier. The Vulpix touched the chains once more, feeling their frosty texture, before slipping one of the keys in one of the keyholes. A second key she picked up, sliding it across another keyhole, requiring a small motion to the left to insert.
The third key required to be at the top, and while she was small in frame, she could simply levitate if she had the energy to do so. With her energy at the lowest it could ever be, she simply raised the key with magic to the keyhole, before...
LOUD METAL CLING
She stood there, frozen in place, looking at the ground infront of her. The key had dropped about 2 meters, which definitely would have woken somebody up. Her magic also couldn't lift up the key anymore, it was like she ran out of juice already. In the span of, maybe a minute of two.
Sighing in her impatience, she leaned back against a wall, siting up against it as she recovered, not quite out of breath but showing some signs of it. "Need a crystal...", she thought to herself once more, not worried that she may have accidentally woken someone up. The Vulpix then formed herself to a crawl, slowly moving towards her magic station, which just so happened to be next to her bed. Slowly, but surely, she would make her way there, inching forward in the middle of the room from the given vision she had from the dim nightlight and a full moon sky. Oh yeah, it was a full moon out.
Until one of her paws caught onto something sharp.
She gasped in a quick, but loud state of pain, lifting her injured paw into the sky and pausing her movements. With a quick look at the ground, she noticed it was too dark for her to see, but her paw was almost visible, so long as she rotated it properly to the light's path. No sign of blood or injury, but she could definitely feel the impact. "Ugh... how long have I been out?"
And that's the scary part. She didn't even know what day it was. She knew it had to be somewhere in a cold region, so maybe late fall, early winter? Regardless, she just pressed on to the table, grabbing a crystal from the top of the table, before consuming it's energy, siphoning its power. A moment later, and she could breathe easily again, with her light from her left paw becoming brighter than before. With some tuning, she made sure the light wouldn't blind herself, and looked at the floor beneath her to carefully inspect. She shook her head, chuckling at the fact that a moment ago, she stepped on a lego piece. Classic, and still effective to this day.
Now that those shenanigans were over, she made her way back to the door she was trying to open for the past five minutes. She got a better view at her door, the key still against the floor infront. Instead of levitating just the key, the Vulpix decided to levitate herself, with the strength and will she had after the crystal, she could do it with ease. Sliding in the third key to the right hole, she lowered herself back to the ground level to pick up the fourth and fifth key. These two were important because they needed to be in the same hole for them to work. After fiddling with the lock for the two keys on the side, she lifted the sixth and final key, this one slightly bigger than the others before it. An easy solution, there was a big lock near the doorknob, and that's where it would go.
The lock became loose, the doorknob able to be freed, and the chains were separated apart so the door can move outwards. "Finally, just to get some damn food, and maybe a drink or two". The door would creak open, though not quite as loud as your average horror film's old wooden door, and on the other side, was a statue of a ghost. Silently terrified, she shook her head again, trying to laugh to herself. "Oh... must be the spirit's eve".
Or... was it?
She thought it would be funny to the statue in to her room, keeping it for a while and whoever put it there to be horrified as a prank. After doing that, she magically sealed her door back up, and walked down the narrow and cold hallway, her left paw no longer acting as a flashlight, and merely using the moonlight as guidance. She dared not to disturb others while they were sleeping, even though she probably woke someone up with the key dropped from earlier.
The Vulpix noticed one of the doors was slightly opened. She didn't want to peek in, but she looked in its direction for a moment. Someone was sleeping in it, but just forgot to shut the door, happens she suppose. Moving forward, one door was still wide open, but it was to the bathroom. The door always creaks loud when moved, so knowing this, she stepped into the bathroom carefully. There was a nightlight in it aswell, and a mirror. Levitating herself up infront of the mirror, she had noticed something felt off. She felt... watched, and at the same time, two of her teeth were small fangs, almost like a vampire or snake. Rubbing her eyes, she looked closer at herself in the mirror, and while they were small for fangs, they were still noticeable to most folks. But she still felt watched, someone was looking at her from a distance, and she couldn't tell if it was real or not. Stepping out of the bathroom, she looked to her left, then to her right, then back to her left, and once more to her right. Nothing felt off, but the mirror was probably not properly cleaned, perhaps she'll have to do it when sunrise comes up.
Moving to the same direction as before, her steps became a bit louder, trying to move faster through the spooky ominous hallway she was traversing through. Finally, she gets to the stairs, and down the flight of them she would go, stepping lightly, and holding on to the railing for support. She approaches the final step downwards, until...
The Vulpix stubs her right paw, causing some noise to be heard.
Clumsy, she shrugged it off, but this time she knew it would have alarmed someone, possibly even Abraker. After fast-approached to the kitchen, she opened the fridge, and took out a leftover slice of pizza and some fruit juice. The lights were set to a dim option, but they were still clear enough for her to see. She sat on a chair that felt somewhat new to her, and it was also cold to the touch, the same eerie feeling that it felt more abandoned than a 90s skateboard park.
Enjoying her slice of pizza, she poured a small glass of fruit juice, before placing it back in the same position as it was beforehand, and then calmly sits down back at the table, all alone. Could have brought her phone down for some silent laughs, but this time she felt like she didn't need to as she only wanted to be down here for a maximum of 10 or so minutes. She peered to the left, noticing that there was a small bucket of candy overflowing from the top. Not knowing who it may have been from, she levitated one of the smaller pieces of candy, opening the wrapper, and consuming the candy. It had the taste and smell of a kit-kat, a pretty popular candy she enjoyed years ago.
But not knowing how much time had passed since she stubbed her paw, and sitting down, there was a step from the hallway above that she was just in. Not too frightened, she knew it had to be somebody that she woke up. The unknown person got to the top of the stairs, and made their way down, not knowing what to expect from investigating a noise so late at night, or early in the morning.
The Vulpix would finish most of the slice of pizza, only half of the crust remained, while half of the fruit juice she poured earlier was gone. Whoever that was about to come down... would be the first to know that the Vulpix is alive and well.
A fate so bizarre you wonder how they are managing life.
