They deviated a lot from their original concept of just meeting people or connecting with someone you haven't talked in a while. Heck, even a chatting app like Telegram is closer to social media than whatever Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and others are right now.

It's nice once you made them truly as your tool

I sometimes looking for countless references in Instagram and Pinterest. Maybe something funny to blow some steam off with local memes but that's generally it. I use web apps of Instagram so It only load the necessary things and I disabled all the notification. The sluggish nature of web app also makes to break habit of sharing things to others

What's your opinion on e-dating?

Suggested by eblf2013

My view on it
I don't mind it personally. I see it as a valid way to meet and have an intimate relationship with someone. It's just that there are a lot of factors at play, but then a real relationship also has a lot of factors at play. Ultimately, however, if the two partners are actually happy with the relationship, then I don't see the issue with it. I just hope that neither partners has a double life of sorts that their e-partner doesn't know. I also hope that, eventually, the partners will meet IRL and spend time together.

Edit to add more my opinion: I won't do it myself, to be honest. There are too many roadblocks and the factors that come into play are much worse online than IRL. I do think you can somewhat bond with someone online, but it isn't enough to base a romantic relationship on.

I guess the TL;DR is that I don't care if other people do it, but I won't personally do it for that the risks and limitations are too much for me to handle.

Patatitta
I personally only consider e-dating stuff like dating over discord when that person isn't really nearby IRL, online datings app like tinder or just using social media to find a partner is not something I consider e-dating

e-dating is complicated, I personally would never e-date anyone. It's just, you don't have any guarantees for anything, while e-dating, it's not just only that you cant meet irl with them which in my opinion is already a pretty big and bad limitation. But it's just, they could just delete their profile randomly and you wouldn't know, they could be talking to other people IRL, they could just not be the person they told you they were, they could be catfishing you, there are just so many things that could go wrong, and when you combine that with the limitations. I just dont personally see it.

Not only that, but here in osu! specifically (and tbf other online communities), e-dating is the source of many, many problems. Most of the tweets you see in osu!drama days are some sort of discord grooming. Which ends up really really erally bad for both parties and is straight up illegal, and just those scenarios are more likely than IRL, since it's easier to lie, easier to meet people for better or for worse, and easier to do dumb shit like that

it's just, unless you have a guarantee that like you're planning to move to another place before getting in the relationship and you could just go live with them. Which in that circustances is fine since the e-dating thing is just a phase. I would advice to not e-date. If you want a partner, just look IRL
Karmine
To me dating implies planning a long term relationship, possibly living together, even though it may not work in the end.
For it to even have a chance to work you need to know what the person is like IRL and try to live every day life with them. If e-dating is only temporary and you plan on spending time (like vacation) together then it's fine.
While making friends, even best friends, online is definitely possible you'll usually want to meet and spend some time together IRL, and that takes years most of the time. Since part of dating requires meeting IRL an exclusively online relationship doesn't make sense to me.

If it's just kind of a RP thing and both are aware of it then it's fine I guess but many times I've seen people e-dating where only one of the parties involved was taking it seriously.
I also have yet to find people who e-date the same person for more than a few weeks or months.
In my experience it just doesn't work even for people who pretend it does for them (that's the saddest thing).
Isshiki Kaname
I don't really like it either. If I was to choose a person I was to spend a sizable portion of my life with, I'd rather be able to see them IRL and be able to do stuff with them IRL. I don't really see how you could bond with someone over the Internet.

On top of that, I'd actually like to see the person face to face, to see how they are and how they behave. You can't really do that online either. You would hate it when you realise that the person you thought was a sweetheart to turn out to be a venomous snake, would you?

Winnyace
I won't do it myself either, to be honest, for the same reasons you guys gave above. I do think you can somewhat bond with someone online, but it isn't enough to base a romantic relationship on. I'm adding this to my opinion, since I forgot to mention it.

Nuuskamuikkunen
I don't think it's necessarily bad but somewhat complicated for these reasons: e-daiting is difficult to mantain due to distance, the fact that you might not know the other person in its entirety, the fact you cannot really physically intimate with them (not even a cuddle heh); and as others have stated, if you are a minor, just don't. You can only get so far with someone online and unless you're e-dating someone near your zone, the chances of turning an online relationship into a real one would be slim.

Also, I tried once or twice a few years ago and I don't recommend it.

Dark themes or light themes?

I use light themes everywhere I can. The reason is because when reading text, especially large amounts of it, on a dark theme, the text becomes blurry and I begin having double vision of the text, like an outline of it follows wherever I look for a few seconds. On light themes, this doesn't happen, so I use them.

What do you think about physical media? Do you believe to still be relevant?

Suggested by eblf2013

I find physical media neat, even though I didn't really share this experience much. I find the idea of collecting and digitizing physical media really cool and neat, though, and I want to experience it someday. I believe it is still relevant for archiving purposes and also personal enjoyment as seen in collecting such media.
lostsilver
physical media is better than digital media, like for example, i want to own a green day american idiot cd so i can listen to their songs without having to go on amazon music/apple music/etc! and most games that my friends and i have are physical media too! physical media as a whole is cool, and i think that everyone should dive into the world of it at some point in their lives
ClevelandsMyBro
it's just cool to say that "i own this physically". having a digital copy is subjectively better for me tho but having a physical copy just hits different.

anyways on the topic of reading, i recently finished frieren vol.1. finished reading that shit in one sitting and boy let me tell you. its so good that its the first book i finished in a very long time. i fucking love collecting comics/mangga. i used to be an avid reader when i was a child, well that was until my mom scold me for wasting my time reading than studying.

honestly the "everyone should try physical media at some point in their lives" line has killed me inside as I realize that there are peopel younger than me that did not grow up with physical media

physical media is good for 2 things:

1- conservation
2- it can be cheaper if you resell it in the future

I do think most things that can afford to do it should have some sort of physical backup, not even a commercial product, just 4 hard drives stored in some supercomputer somewhere that we know for certain it is not going offline so that it will always be accessible. While it's true that most people dont really go back and consume really obscure things that we can only consume thanks to preservation, it should still be done as it's cool to preserve human history, and there are cases where someone really starts shining in a certain field but like a lot of their early work has been lost to time

now, the second one is more for a friend of mine that does do that sort of stuff than for myself. You can buy a game, beat it, and then sell it second hand at the store and make back part of the purchase, or you can just buy the game itself second hand for cheap. While is considered to be a grey area as no money is being given to the original creator, it's still a way to make certain fields more accessible

however, physical media also has dissadvantages, mainly, it can break, physical space, and accesibility

My family owned a wii and a gamecube as I was growing up, I mainly remember playing with the wii as I was a very small child when the gamecube era was ongoing. In many times, due to me just really loving a game and putting it into the wii disk drive thousands of time, the will would not read the disk, so now you had to bring up cleaning materials and clean the disk and just pray that there isn't any damage made to the disk itself. I will admit, this happeend more often than not as a kid because I was a kid, now that i'm legally considered an adult, I am more careful with physical media, however, this still can happen, one accident, or you just losing track of the certain product and not being able to track it back and it's just gone forever

Second problem, space. While it's cool to have an entire bookshelf dedicated to books, there will be a certain point when you just run out of space in the bookshelf, and now either you must spend more money and cram more your house to hold more books, or you throw out some older books or other objects with the goal of fitting in more books. This is more minor of a problem, however, in my case, if I had every manga/anime i've read in physical, I would not have space in my room for it.

The third and last problem I personally have with physical media is the accesibility of it. With digital you can just buy it any time at any moment, in fact, a lot of the time you dont even have to buy the product, (making me able to consume manga without having to spend 7000€). However with physical, a lot of the time will happen that I just try to buy a certain product and it is just not being sold on my town, so now I must start traveling around to really buy it, and then you're just paying extra in transporation, and also you're tied to store schedules and it running out and whatever, it's just a lot harder to obtain than a digital copy

my final opinion: I think physical media should exist for the sake of conservation but it is way better for me if the main way of distribution is digital
Cerno
physical media is also extremely important in preventing lost media, one of the worst things about digital games or movie streaming in general is the lack of permanence. Any digital-exclusives could be altered or erased entirely without warning.
Aireunaeus
abso facking lutely. even though i don't really own that much physical media like mangas, vinyls etc. Physical stuff is more comfy and feels more worth than getting digital media. you can basically fill your whole shelf full of physical media and that makes me feel like home.

Cerno wrote:

Digital is much more convenient and will definitely become more popular in the future, while physical media will become more niche and more on collecting purposes.

For me now, i would a buy a physical copy of a console game most of the time unless its on sale digitally, and would buy a physical copy of a book series i know i would like, the rest would be digital.
Nanofranne
There's a satisfaction when you collecting stuff physically. But for the sake of being more practical, I prefer digital if I have the means to access it whenever I want it.

I still collect and play music and videos locally on my device. Backwater and arbitrarily expensive internet makes it impossible to enjoy streaming

Pardon the lack of cool styling, but I'm lazy

I think some people in OT might be too young to work yet...

But on topic, for me Self-employment would be nice, like having not to worry about deadlines or other corporate issues is pretty good, i guess you would have to learn on not to slack off, but that can be improve if you put effort.

Working for someone else. In spain making a business and similar things is suicide
Karmine
Being self employed has a more downsides imo, you don't necessarily work the hours you want (depending on what you do/your clients) and it usually requires more work than being in a company for the same salary since you have to take care of the accounting etc.

It can be great for some jobs like dev if you can get to live from donations though
Personally self employment isn't an option in my field anyway

depends on your project and how big it is, and even then, it can be really difficult to keep things running from donations alone. I know there are massive open source projects, which have maintainers that lose money every month doing this.

they're fine. i use twitter a lot during breaks to see memes/funny imagery
i feel like they get a lot of flak from uninformed people/people who don't really understand how they work and blame the whole platform for any of the problems that might've been caused by themselves and themselves alone (like following shit people who post shit content, developing a co-dependency for the platform, etc) or just plain exaggerate how harmful they actually are. social media is only shit if you make it shit for yourself, i always say this.

twitter is my most used social media, and it's the only "big" one i still use up to this day so i guess that counts as my "favorite" (even though favorite is kind of a strong word and wouldn't really call it that)
i've been there for over 11 years at this point and never had any issues. besides uh, you know, elon musk being a fucking idiot and removing useful features/ruining its already low reputation to the ground

not worth it
for a relationship like this to actually succeed it takes a level of maturity that is nigh impossible to see these days. i've only seen it happen once to someone i knew, and they still managed to break up somehow

but if you're not going for anything serious and you're both of age then yeah Go Nuts On Your Discord Kitten

Winnyace wrote:

it's neat. i have an entire collection of physical videogames from the n64, gba, gamecube, nds, wii, 3ds and even some from the wii u and switch. the games from the older consoles give me a lot of nostalgia because they used to come with instruction manuals that were very well done most of the time and explained things that you might've not noticed in normal play. however, the newer games just come with the game cartridge/disc and nothing else, which is a shame

as long as there are people who want to fill their shelves with videogames, physical media will always be relevant and in demand, no matter how expensive or difficult it might be to purchase

Winnyace wrote:

work for someone else 100%, no contest
self-employment might sound cool on paper but in reality it's a fucking nightmare. your salary and the clients you get become literally RNG (meaning it becomes difficult to budget and plan for the future), you don't receive benefits like health insurance, retirement plans or paid time off (unless you hire them on your own), you might run into the issue of having tasks that are not related to your specialty (this is probably one of the worst ones), etc.

maybe it's better in other countries, but here in spain jumping into the self-employment ship is a very, very bad idea, especially if you never had a job before. do not do it

Do you know how to cook? If so, what do you enjoy cooking?

I learnt how to cook recently and I only know how to cook fried eggs and omelette. I personally want to learn more, but I will do that over time. For the moment, I still to learn how to flip things easily while they're on top of the fire and timing of when things are done.

As for what I enjoy cooking, I enjoy doing omelettes more than fried eggs, but both are nice to cook IMO.

What phone do you have? What do you look for in a phone when you buy a new one?

Suggested by eblf2013, somewhat modified by me, though.

I currently have an OnePlus Nord CE 2 (rolls off the tongue). I don't like personally and I want to switch it with a Pixel phone. What I look for in a phone nowadays is if I can easily flash it with another ROM or the default ROM to not super bloated with apps. Sadly, so far, I haven't had much luck with that besides with the Pixel phones. I also look to see if it has an audio jack. Sadly, the trend is to remove them. I can survive without both of those though. I don't really use my phone or anything super serious like gaming. I need it more to watch YouTube, listen music, go on Discord and make calls/messages.
