the united states are not experiencing the kind of tangibly awful conditions that much of britain and probably the united kingdom at large have been experiencing, afaik
i know some friends and acquaintances there, and what's been described of food shortages, rising energy costs, and additional brexit-relevant consequences, sounds positively distressing at times.
and while we've got some fairly critical circumstances, like some markedly hostile dynamics between political enemies (and often over marginalized demographics) that have increasingly resulted in domestically militant groups from the far-right wing of things, it's not like that exact scenario doesn't exist there either (albeit with its own context).
also, i'm familiar and complacent enough with living here, which is clearly a primary influence in the matter.
